Mock26:
Who is giving them a "complete pass"? Certainly not me. I just said that I think the kid is lying. That is certainly nowhere near to being giving them a "complete pass."

I don't, because it's sods law that a pothead would find meth inside a detention cell of the DEA. I also doubt he is lying about the lack of water, simply because after a certain point his own refusal to drink would of got him sectioned under some form of mental health legislation (i.e. he is no longer of sound mind) and they'd of got an IV in to him.

What does sound very plausible is that they discharged him, yet someone forgot to go get him. So not only did the computer say the cell was emptied, it never flagged a reminder to deliver meals to that 'empty' cell.

I can also well believe that the cleaning service, despite the cell being flagged as needing cleaning, skipped it when they found the door still locked.

What really does end the debate on his honesty is that the DEA have agreed with his side of events and admitted culpability.

I'm sure a few patriots will take Schadenfreude in the fact this "dirty hippie loser" nearly died since he is a the perpetrator of a victim less crime.

Expect more of this kind of thing as the country continues its collapse.

Dude deserves a fat payout, cause otherwise it will happen again, and somebody from the DEA needs to be fired and possible go to jail. People who have the power to lock you up need to be held responsible if they leave you in a cell.

why wasn't any friends or family tracking him down? if i saw/heard of a friend being arrested i sure as heck would find out after 24 hours or so if everything was ok if no one has heard from him. i can imagine a college kid not contacting his parents for a few days but for farks sake his friends should be asking where is he after 2-3 days if no one has seen him.

Given that only two measurements were given, we're left without a complete picture of the cell.

5x10... That could be 5 feet deep and 10 feet tall; presumably 5 feet wide as well.

Even still... He could've been in a 100x100 cell and it wouldn't make a difference to me.

I am sure this has been covered but.....if he cell is 5 by 10 and you cant spread your arms out wide.. turn 90 degrees and try again. hell turn 15 degrees and try and you will probably succeed. If you still cant stretch your arms out wide at the 10 foot length.. call up the NBA and make some crazy money

flamingboard: Spencer, MA cops arrested my friend in his backyard for no reason, smashed his hand in the cell door then left him there for about an hour while his ruined hand squirted blood all over the cell. They then mysteriously lost the camera footage of his cell and a judge dismissed things in a way that blocked his ability to sue. They were chasing someone else and ended up tackling my friend in his backyard thinking he was the guy they were chasing. He didn't know what was happening so he fought them and they arrested him for resisting arrest. They never said what they were arresting him for for him to be resisting.

Since 9/11 a two tier society has developed. All citizens are potential terrorists unless they need us to fix a cop's transmission or something. Then we might get a smile...until they have the vehicle back.

No, but arm span for makes is usually around one's height. Even being Asian, it's not hard to imagine he is over 5'. Now, take a tape measure. Measure out 5x10. Put yourself in a box that size, lose the key, and have now idea if and when somebody is going to let you out.

I'd like to remind everyone that his body went into septic shock, which alters your mental state significantly. Things like trying to kill himself and eating strange powders off the floor arent really that strange when you consider what was happening to him, and that his brain was no longer capable of making proper decisions. Imagine if you were locked in a room with nothing but a red button that says "danger: do not push" for 5 days... eventually, you would push the damn thing.

The police reported him as being completely incoherent when they found him... the kid was farked up, man.

You've met some POWs that have had the benefit of mental and physical training you mean? You've met some that had access to some form of water? What?

My wife's grandfather spent most of WW2 in a Japanese prison camp. Was put there after Wake Island. You might not know this but most of the people captured on Wake were civilians.

Why is it so hard to believe that he found the meth in the cell? They obviously don't clean them regularly, or they would have cleaned it after he (was supposed to have) left, and FOUND HIM.

So their cleaning procedures are... lax...

And why has no one addressed the most important question: In what did he collect his urine in order to drink it?

Shoe, maybe.

feffer: Pray 4 Mojo: Gotta say... can't really see the DEA raiding some Math major's apartment over a couple joints.

Well, no.

During the raid, authorities confiscated ecstasy, marijuana, prescription medication, hallucinogenic mushrooms, and a white powdery substance that was described as a synthetic hallucinogen. They also seized numerous weapons including a Russian rifle, handguns and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

Regardless, his treatment was undeserved.

WTF? We're they sampling the take? So that's what can happen when you mix all the above substances - you forget about the kid you placed in the holding cell.

Yup, someone's job is over with.

I imagine all the tough guys in here would just quietly hum the star spangled banner to themselves for 5 days if this had happened to them. Of course I would never happen to them because like all true patriots they wouldn't go near any illegal drugs. They'd just take legal drugs illegally and convince themselves that that is different.

I guarantee you most of those liberals who claim to be against the drug war will vote for Obama again in the elections - FYI, he has extended the drug war and has appointed a drug czar. From my experience, whenever I press them on the issue, the typical answer I get is "Welp! Got more important shiat to do, like provide health care!" Meanwhile, crap like this continues on in our country and other countries where the drugs come from, like Mexico and Columbia. This isn't some low-priority social injustice we're talking about here. After days of being ignored, Chong said he tried to take his own life by breaking the glass from his spectacles

Question. Who has glasses made out of actual glass still? Mine have been made out of plastic for the last 20 years or so. Not counting when transition lenses first came out of course, those where made of glass. But even that was 15 or so years ago.

Is this some sort of hipster resurgance?

I gotta wonder, he is banging on the walls to be let out, was business as usual was going on around him? Who the hell eventually let him out? Because whoever it is, they broke protocol and if they are in the habit of just randomly letting screaming prisoners out of cells then they must work for Al Quida and should be fired posthaste while being told how much they disgust their superior officers.

I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. The kid certainly isn't innocent of all wrong doing and the DEA certainly isn't innocent either but if it is so easy to believe in the entire facilities incompetence why isn't it just as easy to believe the kid is at fault as well?

What is more likely, the kid was high on Meth and refused to eat or drink and eventually started cutting himself with the DEA being at fault for not getting him medical attention right away when they realized he was freaking out or that the DEA office completely forgot he was there and in the next 5 days never heard him or even had ANYONE go to that part of the jail?

It's not like him and his buddies or whoever he was at the house with were just some stoners smoking a joint based on the list of stuff confiscated from the house.

I dunno, something just sounds off about his story (and the DEA's)....

2012-05-02 08:29:20 AM

RandomRandom: Mock26: I cry bull dung! I think that the kid is lying through his teeth and probably chewed on the glass so he could try and make some money. Is it possible he was forgotten, yeah. But I think it highly unlikely.

So he faked the failing kidneys?

And then the DEA paid for his hospital visit out of the kindness of their hearts?

Really? Some folks cannot believe that law enforcement could possibly be this incompetent. Well yes, they can.

/interestingly, often the same folks who believe the very worst of "government" give law enforcement a complete pass.

And some folks (especially on fark) believe any story that is anti-cop. Really? It's not possible this tool ate his own meth because he knew he was facing more charges, refused food and water because he wanted a paycheck, and wound up in the hospital because of his own stupidity. Well yes, it is.

See how that works? I'd prefer to wait and see as opposed to fark's immediate believe everything they read reaction.
