Its Berkeley, Submitter. He'll be swimming in whatever he likes, be it boys or girls or both--just as if it was Austin or Ann Arbor.

Why bother getting an education when you have mommy and daddy's money to play with?

When you play the game of dorms...you win, or you die?

The My Little Pony Killer: Why bother getting an education when you have mommy and daddy's money to play with?

He's Asian. Mom and Dad will pay every red cent they have to get him on his feet, then expect it all back with interest in the form of grand kids and a high profile job which he will finance the family with.

I quit when he used a remote to turn on the lamp, then walked to the dresser the lamp was sitting on to pick up the remote for his curtains. No damned sense.

buckler: I quit when he used a remote to turn on the lamp, then walked to the dresser the lamp was sitting on to pick up the remote for his curtains. No damned sense.

Those were the various remotes. They all control everything, I'd reckon.

All his automation really does is utilize off the shelf hardware controlled by some software. Anyone could do it with enough time and money, but this kid is the unique blend of bored and rich that only a college freshman can be.

Rich people have more automation, but they get it installed instead of doing it themselves.

The kid is in college and has time to play with his dorm room?

He needs to get laid immediately and really enjoy college. I don't care if it's by a girl or boy. He needs to find out what life's really about.

Swimming in pussy? It's basically lights and curtains. That's it. Then he wires it up a few different ways. Nifty, but not terribly impressive.

2012-05-02 03:42:49 AM
I liked "romantic mode".

After all, who doesn't turn on some mood music and a disco ball when they masturbate?

2012-05-02 03:49:25 AM
The kind of pussy he'll be getting would rather play with a piece of yarn, than his dick.

Cal sucks.

Waking up to Justin Bieber sounds like hell.

I'm not sure a blacklight is such a good idea...

"Why does the floor look like a Jackson Pollock?"

He needs better lighting on the mirror ball and the strobe should probably be slowed down a couple hertz.

Seems like fun, but couldn't he find quieter actuators for the curtains?

2012-05-02 05:59:47 AM
He can keep the lights, curtains and "party" setting. Just get me a bath that I can order to start filling up when I'm almost home.

/Who needs a strobe light and those other paraphernalia with a 3 square feet "dancing" area?
//Build a bar with some decent liquor instead

2012-05-02 06:01:46 AM
this guy should be drinking more beer.

2012-05-02 06:02:05 AM
So, everything was automated except for the focus on his camera?

Or, he could probably do something with compressed air that would move faster (like the Star Trek doors), but he'd have to deal with the compressor starting at odd intervals, and it would need to be better built to deal with the movement. Probably lose the ability to partially open the curtain.

For the mirror ball - how about multi-colored LED lighting?

/still half-asleep.

2012-05-02 06:13:53 AM
Using remotes is not automation.

I honestly wonder why there aren't more suicides of people who have to live in a dorm room.

ModernLuddite: I honestly wonder why there aren't more suicides of people who have to live in a dorm room.

No one really wants their asshole roommate to get an automatic A.

2012-05-02 06:29:44 AM
Why do three students share one room? That's like working at Foxconn or something.

2012-05-02 06:34:36 AM
Justin Bieber and that noise to draw the curtain......seriously.....that kid is never getting laid ever...

You just lie here baby i'm going to shut the curtains yah is that sound of a wind up clockwork toy gettin you hot melissa.

2012-05-02 06:38:27 AM
Whether he gets laid or not probably depends on how many people remember all the saves he blew for the Red Sox.

2012-05-02 06:53:29 AM
Since when do students get to built things (motion sensors) into the walls of a dorm? Berkeley must be pretty free-wheeling to allow physical modifications like that.

Arkanaut: Whether he gets laid or not probably depends on how many people remember all the saves he blew for the Red Sox.the size of his bank account.

I'll go with "Virgin" for $1,000, Alex.

I thought it was cool. Liked calling it "Brad". Still, I quit half-way through with this in mind...

Remote control curtains is what it takes to get you laid? All this time I thought it was booze and pot. Man, I feel silly now for having wasted my college years.

2012-05-02 07:45:35 AM
Yay, Apple products. Video was probably taken with an apple product too as it was out of focus for minutes.

I do believe that was the point.

Wow, a lot of hate coming from your mom's basement today.

2012-05-02 07:47:49 AM
I thought it was funny. College wasn't just drinking, it was also putting a lot of effort into stupid goals for the lulz or self satisfaction. Probably does get him laid and he doesn't have to be drunk.

2012-05-02 08:00:05 AM
Its not even worth commenting on how lame that was.. oh wait. dammit!

It's all a moot point when one of his floormates gets tired of the notoriety and leans a trash can full of water up against his door.

I spent more years than I care to admit in dorms. That kid isn't doing anything notable other than pissing away money.

2012-05-02 08:19:42 AM
I am disappointed, I was hoping at least for some heavy duty actuators lifting up beds and rotating furniture instead of just "hey I got a bunch of relais hooked up to a python script".

2012-05-02 08:29:09 AM
The curtains open automatically to reveal a stunning view of the other dorms, which are co-ed.

2012-05-02 08:29:33 AM
JEBUS. Do I have to do *everything* around here?

For romantic mode I was expecting this. (link pops)

2012-05-02 08:31:55 AM
Given what he calls romantic mode, hopeless virgin seems the winning element.

2012-05-02 08:44:06 AM
OMG! He can control the lights remotely! The future is here people!

2012-05-02 08:44:29 AM
I have to go with the whole "Most people can do with enough time".

I have my undercabinet lighting in the kitchen set up on automatic sensors, it's nice when coming home in the dark with kids or groceries in tow. It was also extremely easy to install (swap out a sensor for the switch).

The whole lights on remote controls is more of a pain in the ass than anything, especially when you have kids that move the remotes around and you can't even find one.

2012-05-02 08:54:04 AM
fark all y'all. I thought it was cool.

2012-05-02 08:54:26 AM

He reinvented the clapper and turned his room into a gay bar that also plays Elton John Can you Feel the Love tonight.

There have been home automation kits since the 1980s.

He needs a "come out the closet mode"

2012-05-02 08:58:44 AM
Rather than walking two feet to turn on a lamp, I can control it with a remote from two feet away! Impressive!
