I would like to play the "Naughty Puppy and the Good Dog Catcher" with her for about six minutes.

I'd stick in my thumb and pull on her plum. Euphemism!

Just goes to show, the grass is always greener. Maybe she wishes she was taken more seriously as an actor, instead of people judging her first and foremost on her looks. I'm sure the millions of dollars makes it easier to deal with, but I can see how that would get irritating, regardless of her actual acting ability.

Gergesa: Try being ugly. Then complain.

Always see pretty chicks (especially ones known for being pretty) complain about it.

See Tyra banks ventures into wearing fat suits.

fusillade762: Mugato: Unfortunately she'll be tied up in the Avengers into her 40s.

[www.liveforfilms.com image 600x452]

Literally.

That was a decent fight scene...

Which reminds me, I just watched Haywire, with Gina Carano. Was't a great flick by any means, but most of her fight scenes were very awesome[If you google-fu is strong, I suggest watching the whole hotel fight scene if you can find it]. One of the few movies ever where you see a woman that is actually fit, playing a soldierly type. A rare treat.

Most movies any more, you watch a woman even run, you can tell she hasn't done such a thing since she was 6 for the lack of coordination. Sure, some manage at least a graceful run, but most starlets end up looking like a drunk 3-legged gazelle. Wasn't it Megan Fox that needed to take running lessons?

Bonus, she looks good too. Pretty face, large..tracks of land(lots of bouncing and swaying). Legs all the way up to her ass(and oh so capable those legs are).

Sure, she's a pro fighter, so that comes with the territory, but her co-stars aren't, and they gave as good as they got(Micheal Fassbender and Channing Tatum[or whatever his name is]) as far as performance in the fights go.

SJ gets into a fight, and it's more artful, less realistic. When she kicks someone, you can see, hear, and feel, the over choreographed fake-ness of it[like many modern kung-fu styled movies]. I suppose it may be for many like missing something you never had...it's good enough until you see it done extremely well..then it's ...just "ok".

[/end threadjack]

In this aricle, at least, she didn't say she hates being hot.

"I wanted to be a character actor. Those are the actors I most admire. I think women that are curvy can be pigeonholed in that bombshell thing. It's not like I actively look for sexy roles. It's not a requirement that my character be pretty and delicate. I never think about my character being sexy unless that's written in."

Sounds like she just had practical career goals.
What a monster.

Trocadero: Hear hear! I, too, thought Thora was hotter in Ghost World. Then Lost In Translation happened, and nobody remembers Thora Birch.

Aside from that one performance, Thora Birch was pretty forgettable, even when she showed her tits in that Kevin Spacey movie American Beauty.

Big, but droopy. Sure, some may like that, but meh. That, and having no eyebrows / a mongoloid forehead slated her for her mundane career.

AgtSmithReloaded: Oh, boo-frakking-hoo.

Last I checked, doll, human beings were able to make their own decisions. I'm sure no one had to hold you at gunpoint and force you to play Black Widow again for the Avengers. if you want to be this "character actor" so badly, you take the roles YOU want to play, not the ones studios want to see you in. Sure, sometimes you go back to the sexy, drooling-fanboy fodder...you know, if you need to pay a light bill or something...but if you want to break out of the "we need a bombshell" mold, you take Charlize Theron's lead. She won an Oscar for her role in Monster playing someone completely opposite of the smoking-hot woman she is.

Sorry, I just have no patience or sympathy for that "I hate being hot" garbage. Sure, it's probably a real pain in the ass from time to time because of the narrow-minded behavior of many, but I bet there are just as many times she's loving the hell out of what her beauty's done for her career.

If you RTFA you'll find out she didn't actually say anything like that.

Same goes for people who complain about being famous. No one forced you to take those high profile roles.*

She wasn't complaining about being pretty, she was complaining about wanting to be cast in more character roles, like she played, admirably, in Ghost World, The Man Who Wasn't There, and Lost In Translation. Can she act? The Coen Brothers don't cast people who can't (even Tara Reid, who was perfectly cast).

Let me see if I remember correctly - the 'blow on them' lines about her toenail polish, the 'suck your cock for a $1000 Brant can't watch' line, her lines in Logjammin', singing along to Viva Las Vegas, plus she had to look wounded when the Big Lebowski yelled at her, and drive a stick. It's a featured role. It's well above cameo. She did a good job, but being cast in the right role was crucial.

Aimee Mann's role was one of a glorified extra.

2012-05-01 11:13:31 PM
I feel like this same thing was said by Jessica Beil a couple of years ago. She was going on about how it was so hard to be so pretty because no one would take her seriously and give her the good parts. She would always get told she was "too pretty" to play serious roles or be in period pieces or something. I guess I can see how that "might" be the case for some parts, but when people like her say things like that they don't understand how ungrateful they come across as. It's like a rich person complaining about all their money and how sometimes they wish they could just be like a normal poor person. It's stupid and no one appreciates it.

Well Missy, you're going to need three things to get those kinds of enviable performances like those by the legendary actresses you look up to:

1) A whole lot more experience
2) The humility to take poorly-paying roles
3) A different outlook on nudity

Yeah, I thought not.

You know, now that I think about it. Being smart/good looking, can be a curse. Leads to one being spoiled and never having to work hard, and before you know it, you're in a world where, if you'd applied yourself a bit more, you could have done so much more. Snowflake syndrome, some people can see it in themselves. If they do see it and do nothing about it though, then it's ALL on them, no more excuses.

But it doesn't apply to SJ, she's got all the money she needs to do anything she wants now, and name power to auto-win any audition she goes to.
Nothing is holding her back from being an actual actress but her own drive and ability. Go back to school, take private acting lessons, etc, she's under no limitations aside from current contracts, unless she's squandered every last penny she's earned.

That's why I'd never complain about Tori Spelling in House of Yes. She most definitely stands out amongst the rest of the cast (all good actors), as she is supposed to.

To be fair, some actors like Kevin Bacon were thrifty, saved up for retirement, and hired someone experienced and highly recommended to help them manage their savings...only to discover that he "made off" with it.

Big firm, check. Sue the pants off of--get in line behind everyone else. Nobody gets anything if the money is just plain gone. BTW, I just saw a news blurb about another guy who defrauded a bunch of other actors, separate from Madoff. First World Problem I suppose, but I do have a lot more sympathy for actors who did earn the money and lost it to the people who were supposed to be able to trust than I do for the bastards who caused the mess in the first place.
