Lumpmoose: sigdiamond2000: I love this line about Grenell from the NRO article TFA references:

If he thinks that the gay-rights agenda doesn't have any bearing on American foreign policy, he's not paying attention.

God, what utter f*cking lunatics these people are.

I've found one NRO hint regarding that particular canard:

And when the Obama State Department is already moving to elevate the gay-rights agenda to a higher plane than religious freedom in the foreign policy of the United States, it is reasonable to wonder whether Grenell, after taking such a prominent place in the Romney campaign's foreign-policy shop, would be in line for an influential State posting where he could pursue his passion for that same agenda.

I'm guessing they think that rather than supporting gay rights resolution passage through the UN we should be rescuing Christians in Egypt or something.

It may go beyond that. I vaguely recall some conservative politicians being outraged that Obama spoke against the "Kill the Gays" bill in Uganda and anti-gay legislation elsewhere. Their claim was that it made us look weak (What the Christ?) and infringed on their religious liberty to persecute gay people.

2012-05-01 06:04:07 PM
The argument that Grenell could essentially not be openly gay and serve on a GOP presidential campaign was belied by the fact that Grenell has been a loyal Republican for many years, working for esteemed foreign policy figures including former Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton.

Hahahahahahahaha!

2012-05-01 06:06:26 PM
He should just wait it out. Romney will come out in support of gay marriage any day now. Of course, he runs the risk that Romney will switch back before the election, so maybe the stress is too much.

I don't think it's fair to blame social conservatives. In their defense they're simply scared stiff by gay people and their slippery-slope agenda that threatens the rock-hard culture of America. I say good on them for refusing to bend over and taking that rock-hard, slippery agenda up the wazzoo like a bunch of pansies.

Botkin of the Yard: So Romney is going to pass on an opportunity to put the religious right in its place. I'm shocked.

Yeah, that's fun, isn't it? Even being a Centrist requires that you stand up for SOMETHING. His best angle against Obama was going to be "boring, effective businessman who doesn't let the inmates run the asylum."

Oops.

/ I, for one, am ecstatic about the progress to be made during the final four years of a President with both a spine and a brain!

// Seriously, this election is 36 flavors of awesome. :)

It was an opportunity for Romney to show the world he is more than a tool of the right wing nut jobs and support his employee. Romney even admitted that Grenell did a good job. Instead Romney buckled to the extremists in his party over a miniscule issue. If he is spineless on small issues like keeping a well-qualified gay person on his staff how is he going to stand up to political pressure on the big issues?

You have no place in the Republican party unless you remain closeted. Like Marcus Bachmann.

I know a lesbian that is a Republican because she wants her guns. It is more important to her to protect her 2nd Amendment rights than to legally marry her partner. Her partner's words, not mine.

//No joke

gilgigamesh: The ongoing pressure from social conservatives over his appointment and the reluctance of the Romney campaign to send Grenell out as a spokesman while controversy swirled left Grenell essentially with no job. The Romney camp has not responded to my request for comment.

Nothing like having the troops shooting one of your generals in the back as he's gearing up for the charge.

Well done, social conservatives. Well. Done.

You know, social conservatives are *really* fond of doing that, aren't they? Alibiet sometimes unintentionally.

Like, say, Stonewall Jackson.

Does this mean Obama eats gay people now?

I suppose some cultures may allow it and since Obama is versed in so many cultures one is left to wonder...

She's going to be pissed at Obama's secret agenda of loosening gun restrictions for four years to lull us into a false sense of security so that he can strip them all away if/when he gets re-elected.

except he wasn't that great. he was a neo-con flunkie that sold his soul to play with the GOP big kids, if you consider john bolton and his infantile tantrums a 'big kid.' he tweeted mysogonistic tweets about prominent females. at the end of the day, romney's better off without dead weight from the W admin - but the rumble is that Grenell was taking (indirectly) enormous amounts of shiat from right wing Romney supporters, and even taking flack from other Romney staffers. truth is, he's now a soldier without a country.

I will never understand gay Republicans. It's just one of the concepts that does not compute to me.

Most of the gays I know profess to be republican or at least politically conservative. One of my gay friends even adopted teabagger lingo and calls Obama a socialist who was born in Kenya.

This election is going to be awesome. So far the Obama attacks have been priceless. It's like they hate Romney and they have no idea what to attack Obama on. What "Obama is too cool". Is their current attack? Or "Obama is trying to take too much credit for making the decision to kill OBL".

Really if this is the best you guys can do, quit now. The Freeper derp ain't going to cut it even for the independents.

It's a loss to the Romney campaign - Grinnell seemed like a strong member of his national-security team.

I may be a Republican, but the GOP has just got to get over shiat like this. Bigotry qua bigotry does not suit the party. The fact that Grinnell is gay has nothing to do with his qualifications on national security.

WombatControl: I may be a Republican, but the GOP has just got to get over shiat like this.

The thing is it's the main part of their platform. Yes the talk about freedoms and lower spending but they never do it. Look at what they do when they get in office, it's mostly trying to stop gays, and limiting abortion and birth control (oh and cutting taxes on the rich). The other stuff they never ever actually do anything about. It's all bs.

Apparently others in the GOP would disagree with you on that. He's not man enough, like John Wayne or Angela Merkel.

The worst part is, it shows what a wholly empty shell Romney is. If you don't have the nuts to stick up for one of your own team, well, you just aren't much of a "leader". Romney can't resist the Frown of Upset from his own party to sell out one his own - I wouldn't care to trust him with the 3am phone call.
