Yeah, whatever. Big evil corporation gets one right - meanwhile, the good and noble Medicare program has been covering women's prostate exams for years. Semen analysis, too!

I'm a guy and I had a mammogram before. My God that shiat is horrible. Props to all women who put their boobs in that torture device and have them smashed. It was really pretty painful (I don't exactly have a lot of tit to grab and smash, I feel bad for women who are flat chested)

/ Breast cancer runs in my family
// Yes, guys can get it too, although it's rare

btw, it was pretty bizarre. I had a lump in my tit. I went into an imaging place, gave them my script, and the person behind the counter says (quite loudly) you'll need to go down the street to the women's imaging center. So I did, and got the deed done, and felt very weird, and the doc tried to be nice saying "Oh, a lot of men come through here" and I replied "You're lying, but I really appreciate it anyway" and she replied "Yeah, you're right. It's pretty rare."

/// it was negative, a strained/inflamed muscle. I must have stressed a muscle pleasuring myself too much.

I have to ask why he needs breast exams? I'm assuming she has implants? Is it just due to the hormone replacement medicine?

I am guessing that the hormones might be a big breast cancer risk.

/heh, I said big breast.

CSB. My ex-husband has had a mammogram, too, for what turned out to be a lump of fatty tissue. He concurs that mammograms suck, and suggests that anyone having one treat him or herself to a really strong drink afterward.

She developed breasts after starting female hormone therapy. They're real, potentially cancerous boobies.

Speaking of breast cancer, I recall as a child hearing a friend of my mother relate that since her mother and sister have both had breast cancer, her breasts were "ticking time bombs." I listened really carefully and could hear no ticking, but was still worried they would literally explode.

Maybe this is what turned me gay.

Well, if anyone greens any of the scores of Kate Upton dancing in a bikini links jamming the queue right now, that problem will be back with a vengeance.

And as for this, I mean, why fight it? Just quietly let it go. Are there really that many transgendered people who need both regular prostate exams and mammograms? Is there going to be a run on these sorts of things?

Hopefully other carriers will fall in line, like Aetna and Medicare. Early cancer detection should be a non-gender issue.

HRT causes breast tissue growth - the concentration of hormones can lead to elevated risks. That said, it's only about 1% in the non-TS males (of all Breast Cancer patients), so among TS Women it sounds scary but it still isn't a huge likelihood. Still, there's absolutely no reason either should be rejected. She has the part - she should be able to get it checked.

Good for her. In the mean time, I'll keep fighting Aetna to get them to cover my surgery when I was told by their sales rep that the reassignment would be covered and I was sold a plan that didn't and I only found out when the surgeon's office contacted them to pre-approve coverage.

Why are mammograms sex specific? Generally women are the only ones who need to get them on a regular basis as they get older, due to a higher risk of developing breast cancer, but men need mammograms sometimes too. Men have breasts too.

This. It's the same argument for government health care. Sure there will be a handful of kooks and hypochondriacs who show up too often but it's not like these outliers will bring the whole system crashing down. I mean, if you try to game the health care system, they best you're going to get is just more health care.

This is what I'm wondering. I didn't realize it was gender-specific. Though I DO think it is horribly hypocritical to have mammography stations in the "Women's Health" areas of clinics. Gynecologists and Obstetricians, fine, but claiming mammograms are women specific is ignorant.

Actually, no. These people are insisting that the medical insurance they pay for cover the medical procedures ordered by their doctors. You disagree with that because of an unrelated issue about their gender. Sounds like you're an asshole, huh?

Ya weren't trying to be hurtful. Not knowing is one thing - being a jerk is another. Just as a very generic idea: use the gender the person presents as. If they are wearing stockings and a skirt, assume that person is probably wanting to be called she. If you know the person is TS but you aren't sure, don't be ashamed to ask - they're use to it and will (usually) appreciate the kindness of being asked rather then assumed (of course, everyone has bad days and that question one time at the wrong minute can suck I'm told - don't judge too harshly.)

/had a good friend who is TS and she's happier then I ever knew her before her transition
//and being gay, i'm very big on including the TG peoples, and it's not always easy to get some of the GLB types to accept the T's.

I had an argument about that with a co-worker once. "I'd hate to meet a transgender person or a cross-dresser, because what do you call him? her? it? It would be so awkward?"

I said, "You ask, and if she wants to be called Mary, you call her Mary, and if he wants to be called Steve, you call him Steve."

"Oh, that's disgusting! I could never do that! If they're still a man, you call them Steve, no matter what!"

Me: "Then don't be surprised when they don't like you very much. [shrug]"

This seems like a no-brainer to me; men can and do get breast cancer as well, even if they don't take hormones to stimulate breast growth.

Now I am feeling pity and empathy for the nurses who would have to keep a straight face while some fat, hairy basement dwelling dude slaps his moobs into the mammogram machine. *shudder*

Heh this was funny because Aetna is my Dental Insurance provider and I was wondering why the hell they were covering those procedures for anyone.
I see now they handle all sorts of insurance types.

Insurance should chip in to any procedure that is pertinent to the patient's well being and health, regardless of gender.
