I don't know which is worse. That they plan on making six Hulk movies, or that there is an actor willing to do all of them.

Six picture deal with Marvel? Maybe he won't play Hulk in each one? I can't imagine any studio wanting to make six movies with Mark Ruffalo as the lead. As Dr. Banner, popping up now and then? Sure. As Hulk once or twice more in Hulk movies? Sure. In Avengers 2 & 3? Maybe.

Probably just the indie darling Ruffalo trying to get some long term security instead of looking for work in art films with $2 mil budgets.

6 pictures seems to be their standard deal these days. I assume that it's a mix of Avengers, Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor. Maybe a Hulk movie.

It's like how SLJ got a nine-picture deal. Ruffalo will probably have one Hulk movie, three Avengers, and appear in two others

Six Hulk movies would be great, because they would start to get pretty strange after 3 or 4. It will be like Hulk vs The Leprechaun vs Jason or some shiat like that

Man, I remember Ruffalo in an old episode of Due South back in the '90s. At least I think it was him - playing a father who was trying to sell his newborn son for money to pay off his debts.

Plus that film he did a few yers back with Rachel Weisz, THe Brothers Bloom. THat was pretty good.

A lot of those guys are signed onto 6+ picture deals. It's not full feature solo character films. Let's assume solo sequel for each, maybe two, an obligatory two more avenger's sequels, and then that leaves three crossover/cameo bits in each other's films.

I love the Hulk, but he's best as a supporting character. Kind of like the Janitor from Scrubs. He's big, mean, and oddly funny and sympathetic, but a little dull all by himself.

And considering that it looks like The Avengers will have taken over $500m worldwide by the end of this weekend I suspect they are already throwing money at Joss Whedon to get him to write/direct the sequel, if he isn't already signed up.

Oh boy, I really hope they reboot the hulk franchise. If there is one that that never gets old is seeing origin stories 50 times in a row.

2012-05-01 06:39:50 PM
Carth: You think we'll get away with less than 3 Avengers movies?

No. There will be the initial 3, mainly focusing on one character, then a sequel one that shows the origins of said character, then another one that shows how they all came together, only different than the first time. Then there will be a sequel to that, then the inevitable spinoff, then the reboot. The reboot will get a sequel, but suck, then get re-rebooted, until that character that bombed in the reboot and the re-reboot shows up in another superhero smorgasbord, and be played decent enough to where people will want to see it re-re-rebooted.

2012-05-01 06:43:39 PM

Eric Bana would have been good as Dr Banner but they just made him into too much of a wimp plus the Hulk origin was beyond srewed up in that movie. Too bad Ed Norton couldn't continue as Banner because he played him just right.

Ruffalo is a good actor but I really don't like many of his movies. The only two movies I liked him in was Zodiac and Collateral.

They already did the origins of the main Avengers - only Hawkeye and Black Widow haven't had origins.

I was getting used to the actor portraying Bruce Banner being replaced more often than Spinal Tap's drummer, and in Hulk's case it kinda made sense. The transformation process obviously caused monumental changes to his entire bone structure, there's no reason he'd automatically look the same when he de-hulked.

Hell, cast 9 different actors play him in the same movie = 8 more chances to be nominated for a Best Actor Academy Award!

/The whole genre has jumped the shark and that a sequel to Ghost Rider was made is proof.

I'm just gonna say this. I think comic book movies have jumped the shark. I don't even care about them anymore and I used to be all about it. It seems like literally half of the blockbusters are now comic book movies instead of something original and cool. I'm tired of it. I haven't even seen the last couple and I doubt I'll see Avengers. yawn

This is a thread about a ton of comic book movies and I am commenting on the phenomena of comic book movies so it is relevant. I'm not even trolling. I was loving the early 2000s when the original Xmen came out and the first two Spiderman movies. But they have slowly become less good. X-Men First Class was pretty good, but still just felt like rehashed material, they didn't do anything new with it. Now they are rebooting Spiderman? It hasn't even been a decade, wtf. Then you have Iron Man which succeeds purely on the charisma of Downey. The only good parts in either of those stinkers was the part when he built the huge suit in the cave. Otherwise it was a B movie at best, but people loved that crap. Now we are at the point where they are just throwing all of the mediocre characters into a giant bin and basically making a transformers movie out of it. Large action on a large scale with a ton of characters. That's cool I guess. I'll still Netflix it. But I know what I am getting when I go in there and i'm getting bored of it.

So please tell me: When was this glorious renaissance period when there were no comic book or comic strip movies being made? WHEN? A few years in the 1920s? A couple years in the 1950s?

I'm willing to wager there wasn't a two-year period in your life when there wasn't a comic book or comic strip film or TV series being produced or playing, unless you're in your 80s.

Comic books and comic strips have been the inspiration for our entertainment since RADIO was all we had, and before that, it was popular on the stage.

So you're saying that a form of entertainment that has been around SINCE FILM WAS INVENTED is finally "jumping the shark" now, 100 years later?

I'm going to say you're wrong about that. If several dozen Blondie movies in the 1940s couldn't kill comics in cinema, then a couple more superhero flicks won't do it, either.

Barry McCackiner: ZeroCorpse: So please tell me: When was this glorious renaissance period when there were no comic book or comic strip movies being made?

I am in my 80s and I have been banging your mom since I was 13. You are probably my son and I'm pissed that you turned out so nerd-ragey.

Well, my mom is 77 years old... so... Okay then.

And that wasn't nerd rage. You haven't SEEN my nerd rage. That was just me being pedantic and bored, as usual.

Christ, I laughed my ass off at this. That would make a great spoof video.

9beers: Carth: You think we'll get away with less than 3 Avengers movies?

You're right, there probably will be three. Take off one of the small roles and add another Avengers sequel.

Step 1) You have a comic book movie thats a hit. So a Sequel gets made.

Step 2) Sequel hits big, with either larger box office returns and or better received by critics.

Step 3) Third movie comes out and shoehorns 19 villains and 4 side kicks into it and is completely terrible and nobody likes it.

Reboot.

Several super hero franchises have followed this. They used to squeeze out a forth really terrible movie while it was still profitable, but that was back before Hollywood learned the phrase "Reboot".

Marvel Studios might be able to avoid it as they seem to have a good handle on their characters, I guess we will find out when we watch Iron Man 3.

Will the Nolan Batman films follow the same pattern? unknown.

Doctor Strange is being developed and Marvel has been wanting to do something with Namor ever since they got his rights back. You could always introduce Valkyrie as being from Asgard.

I say A Defenders movie is a good possibility.

RoxtarRyan: Exception Collection: RoxtarRyan: No.

They already did the origins of the main Avengers - only Hawkeye and Black Widow haven't had origins.

They all will be rebooted eventually, then have how they all met re-rebooted, then there will be a sequel, a spinoff, leading to a re-re-reboot, leading to.....

Unless the studio head dramatically changes his mind, there will be no reboot of any of the Avengers characters. They've stated that they intend to "James Bond" them instead, eg - have different actors in the future play the same character if necessary due to age or actors growing bored with the role.

I believe them, because essentially they tested it with Bana -> Norton -> Ruffalo, and it worked just fine.

Probably not, the first 2 had two villains each, the new one has one and a half.

BUT... they are rebooting it after this one. But with Nolan producing, so who knows. Rumor was that DC/WB wanted to do what Marvels doing, the Green Lantern movie, the upcoming Superman reboot, the Batman reboot, all in the same continuity, maybe Flash and WW movies, all culminating in some Justice League movies. As badass as that would have been, im pretty sure they were just rumors. Unless i totally missed something, there was nothing like that in the Green Lantern movie unfortunately, no nods to a larger shared universe. There could have been too, when Agent Waller was like "Contrary to what the conspiracy nuts say, this is the first alien weve dissected" it shoulda gone "...but we wouldnt mind a closer look at a certain citizen of metropolis". Now they are rebooting Spiderman?

Only because Sony is on a clock in the agreement with Marvel. If they don't release a Spider-Man movie every so many years, the rights go back to Marvel (now Disney). Same thing with Fox and Wolverine/X-Men. If you ever want to see a true, complete-universe Marvel movie, the best bet may be to stop going to any and all Sony and Fox releases and hope they'll sell the properties back to Marvel in bankruptcy.

I certainly hope Dark Knight Rises is good, I hate this weird trilogy curse comic movies are in.

With Green Lantern Indeed that was their goal. but nothing like that ended up in the movies, save the surprisingly sexy Amanda Waller which might of been a Coulson like character for their movies. There was a rumor that early drafts of the script had the ring flying around looking for people to wield it and circling the Daily Planet building, and rumors that a certain familiar reporter from Metropolis might be in it, but nothing!

I don't know if they lost faith in the movie and pulled any of that, or if they just mismanaged it all together. But I can tell you this, with Avengers set to make 500 million dollars by next sunday, there almost HAS to be a Justice League movie. Now it might be terrible and shoved out as fast as possible, but there will be one.

(I Hope its Awesome!)

God I hate all the hype surrounding the Avengers movies. It's all anyone talks about. The only good film series was Iron Man, and it got really farking cheesy in the 2nd movie when Ironman's farking heavy metal suit fit into a suitcase. Thor and Captain America were mediocre, even for backstories. They have yet to make a good Hulk film. Color me unimpressed.

When Iron Man was a technology based superhero, we were worried about Thor being a 'Norse God' would be a ridiculous addition to the movie universe. We were wrong. And now thanks to Avengers, we're ready to go cosmic. In which case...

You think we'll get away with less than 3 Avengers movies? For whatever reason Hollywood seems to have decided 3 is the magic number for big franchises.

And considering that it looks like The Avengers will have taken over $500m worldwide by the end of this weekend I suspect they are already throwing money at Joss Whedon to get him to write/direct the sequel, if he isn't already signed up.

I think, if they are doing the Infinity Gauntlet story, that we will be seeing a whole lot of cross over movies and sequels in the future.

Sure, maybe he plays a good Banner(You don't really play the Hulk, you play Bruce Banner), maybe as good as Edward Norton did, but holy Jesus, SIX movies? The Hulk is cool and all, and he fit into the comics well, but we really don't want 6 movies of 'Hulk Smash!!', and we also don't really want the intelligent Hulk for the movies, it just won't work. He translates well onto the screen as raw, unbridled animal fury, but that's where it should end.

Wayne 985: I love the Hulk, but he's best as a supporting character. Kind of like the Janitor from Scrubs. He's big, mean, and oddly funny and sympathetic, but a little dull all by himself.

I always thought they should have used a real person as the hulk...(e.g. some professional bodybuilder or professional wrestler)...

It always seems like the directors feel the need to turn the hulk into a 40 minute cartoon showcasing feats of outlandish strength...e.g. In the first one he's jumping around, grabbing airplanes mid flight, throwing tanks...in the second one he's fighting a cartoon lizard and using a police car as boxing gloves....

I personally think you could use actors and achieve the same effect with effects similar to the fight scenes in the Matrix...e.g. where a missed punch destroyed concrete walls. YOu still get the idea that this is a really strong person...but it's not to the point of ridiculousness.

You say that like its a bad thing. The thing is, beings like the Hulk ARE strong to the point of ridiculousness. The Hulk freakin punched out Galactus. The fight scene at the end of Norton Hulk was fantastic, thats what a fight scene between two super powered beings is supposed to look like, they are strong enough to move mountains and durable enough to plow through them, of course theyre going to hit each other with cars and get punched through buildings. If the fight between Superman and General Zod is half as brutal in the new Superman movie, something like this, ill be happy with it.

Alphax: Mikey1969: You don't really play the Hulk, you play Bruce Banner

Ruffalo IS playing the Hulk in the Avengers, using motion capture, like Andy Serkis as Gollum.

Yes, and he's the first one to do it this way, too.

When they say he's playing the Hulk, they really mean it now.

Yeah, I get that.

The point that I was trying to make is that there isn't the range of emotion and feeling that you got from Gollum. Yeah Ruffalo is the Hulk in a CGI suit, and that's cool, but the real acting comes when he's Banner, until they get to Grey Hulk, there's not a lot of Shakespeare involved, if you get my drift.

Cyno01: mrtoadswildride: Wayne 985: I love the Hulk, but he's best as a supporting character. Kind of like the Janitor from Scrubs. He's big, mean, and oddly funny and sympathetic, but a little dull all by himself.

I always thought they should have used a real person as the hulk...(e.g. some professional bodybuilder or professional wrestler)...

The movie 'Hancock', while not a great film, did a great job of depicting the burden of being a superbeing in a non-super world. I loved how Will Smith destroyed swaths of asphalt every time he took off or landed. World of cardboard, indeed.

The Norton Hulk was great, I read Hulk as a kid, and it totally had the tone. The fight scene was great. The Bana movie blew like a well paid whore.

That is all

The only thing I really liked about the Bana Hulk was Jennifer Connolly and the desert fight.

robrr2003: I think, if they are doing the Infinity Gauntlet story, that we will be seeing a whole lot of cross over movies and sequels in the future.

I saw an advanced screening and...

First up, we finally have confirmation that there will be two post-credits sequences during "The Avengers."

AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!

The credits to the Avengers is probably 20 minutes long.

So sick and tired of this post-credit cookie shiat.

I like how the article says he worked with Whedon on Dollhouse and Firefly... uncredited bit parts on both, looking at everything else on his IMDB page hes practically a professional extra. No way hell actually get that role in the sequel.

Yeah, the scene looked a bit rough, tech-wise...that said, I let out an involuntary sound of joy when I saw who the character was.

Can't take more than bit parts. He has to be at the gym in 26 minutes
