"There is no need to talk about Billy wanting to marry a goat," he said.

#1: If that's in the curriculum, kids might actually perk up and pay attention.

#2: If Billy's talking about marrying goat, I think there's a very real need tor a discussion

I'd say this is the most foolish legislation I've seen, but just look at us. This has been the decade of foolish legislation thus far.

It's a small step, but a good one.

Unfortunately, this also happened today: Richard Grenell, the openly gay spokesman recently hired to sharpen the foreign policy message of Mitt Romney's presidential campaign, has resigned in the wake of a full-court press by anti-gay conservatives.

One step forward, 2 steps back.

Anyone out there think that they became gay because of their Liberal education?

"[N]o public elementary or middle school shall provide any instruction or material that discusses sexual orientation other than heterosexuality," it read.

Last year, a similar measure passed a state Senate vote, only to fail a final approval by the state House.

Missouri is also in the midst of fierce debate over broader "don't say gay" legislation that extends across public schools and into extracurricular activities.

What is wrong with these people? Seriously. I know they think ignorance is bliss, but why spread it to kids? Does sexual orientation even come up that often in elementary or middle school?

Last month, co-sponsoring GOP state Rep. Dwight Scharnhorst enraged opponents when he compared homosexuality to bestiality while speaking in favor of the bill.

"There is no need to talk about Billy wanting to marry a goat," he said.

Nice to see them backing off due to the massive outcry against their proposals.

It was an opportunity for Romney to show the world he is more than a tool of the right wing nut jobs and support his employee. Romney even admitted that Grenell did a good job. Instead Romney buckled to the extremists in his party over a miniscule issue. If he is spineless on small issues like keeping a well-qualified gay person on his staff how is he going to stand up to political pressure on the big issues?

Romney knows how to run things, and part of that is knowing how to get the most talented people to work for you. In this case, it was Mr. Grenell working to strengthen US foreign policy.

So why is Romney allowing religious zealots to compromise US foreign policy like this?

mrshowrules: Anyone out there think that they became gay because of their Liberal education?

Well, I was aware of the fact that it was considered an acceptable option because of my Liberal education, so to an extent sure. You can't really answer a question properly if you're not really aware that it's a question at all. So probably the religious folk are right about the general impact of education there.

Though actually I think the question is somewhat flawed to begin with, as treating one's sexual preferences as a huge, significant part of one's identity is a bit silly anyhow. The guy drinking next to me at the bar preferring guys over girls is no more significant and core to his identity than if he preferred blondes and I went for brunettes or if I were into bondage and he preferred roleplay.

We overthink this shiat too much, especially in the US, it's like another version of how we somehow turned politics into a team sport. It's like the religious people think they're in some sort of competition with the rest of us which they have to "win", and once they start something obviously it's on, since it's not actually a game and they could legitimately fark things up if we just left it.

//Raised Presbyterian, pretty sure the church would have raised a disapproving eyebrow and then not said anything if I'd ended up gay. By contrast, they'd have declared a special holiday to tie me down and take turns kicking my ass if I'd abandoned my education before getting a BA at minimum. So to be fair not all the Christians have their priorities all out of whack.

That's right, biatch. STFU with your bigotry. Nobody cares what you think. Your kind is dying off, and the world will be better when you're gone.

"There is no need to talk about Billy wanting to marry a goat," he said last month.

WTF is wrong with you people? Seriously? If you can't see the difference between two adults who love each other, and someone farking a goat, then then there's no point in listening to you. If you can see the difference, but still say shiat like this, then you are disingenuous and there's no point in listening to you. Farking die already, you old assholes. You add nothing of value to this world.
