Ill have to give it a listen when I get home. Thanks, subby

It's not a bad tune, but I wonder why so many singers who don't have the best voice think that adding a wild, sheep-like vibrato to their delivery makes it better. It doesn't.

2012-05-01 04:05:51 PM
I actually got to see them open up for Against Me! last spring. They were good. I'll have to check them out closer.

Probably saw them at Court Tavern, probably weren't memorable which is why I said who? when reading the headline.

Sounds like it would have been a medium hit on an alternative rock station in the early/mid 90's, not terrible but the singers voice is a bit irritating. The article states "a near-perfect four minutes of pop-inflected punk that kicks off the new album" , you want a near perfect 4 minutes of pop inflected punk go to Naked Rayguns (4 min 24 sec) "Treason" off the Understand album for lessons...That being said, not bad for Jersey kids.

It's quality work. But there are simply too many notes, that's all. Just cut a few and it will be perfect.

Subby needs to get out his mom's Jersey basement and quit stroking it to the hobbit guitar gnome...

pretty much my thoughts too, like Dirty/Jetset-era Sonic Youth. I don't care much for the vocals, but I'll probably still check them out.

screaming females - it all means nothing

made it 59 seconds...couldn't take the voice any more. nasally? whiney? something...

Scottybobotty: Who?

Well there is an handy linked to article which sort of answers your question entirely.
/listened, not for me. I was expecting something more Sleater-Kinney like.

but if you don't read articles you can click it I guess

My latest female vocalist is halestorm. I actually like all thier stuff, which is unusual.

This! I only listen to popular music. Stuff like Taylor Swift and Rihanna. The kind they play on the radio. That's how you know it's good.

2012-05-01 05:04:50 PM
dunno how i feel about her vocals, but her guitar work is pretty decent.

2012-05-01 05:12:37 PM
I love this band so much. Marissa can shred like a motherf*cker.

2012-05-01 05:18:50 PM
get ticked off because when they go to the show there's no half-man-half-rabbit playing on the stage

First off, I've seen a half-man-half-rabbit on stage, but it might have been the drugs.

busy chillin': screaming females - it all means nothing

I can't do that music and I've been listening to The Tiger Lillies all day

Goddamn! It sounds like Geddy Lee on helium. Damn, that was awful.

Hey! Nice job, submitter. Screaming Females are a great punk rock band. Saw them live twice in the last few months.

They've got a Mike Watt-esque DIY mentality, put on a great ass-kicking show, and everyone in the band is super nice.

If this song put you off I'd recommend some of their older stuff. It might be sacrilege to say but I'm not a huge fan of Albini's production on their latest album.

2012-05-01 05:32:03 PM
Made it about 20 seconds in. Singer sounds like the cats in the beginning of the video.

I'd rather listen to some Screaming Trees

update:

I like the music, but jesus, the vocals sound like a noise-rock version of this.

If you want some punk from New Jersey then I recommend Night Birds: Link

Gee, subby, thanks for sneaking a plug past the cat-strokin' modmins.

/yoar the bestestest!

Here is a nice set from them. Sound quality is variable but you can get a better idea of their music (with vocals that may be less annoying for some) and a better impression of Marissa's brand of adorable guitar-godhood. I recommend sticking around for at least the first 3 songs.

I couldn't read this article. Sounds like every other article about "hometown band does good". I saw this interview with this graphic designer who took a shiatty article like that and made the type face something like windings. He actually published it.

That's my buddy's roommate's band.

I know- CSB.

Yeah, I wonder which Fark admin got a blowie for green lighting this POS band's free plug...

I don't think the writer knows what "punk" means.

OMG that was just horrible. Screeching guitars, and a woman with a voice that makes me want to drill out my ear canals.

Please don't call this 'punk'...it's not. Hipster garbage, if anything.

Well, we've heard much worse over here in Ballard. Kind of liked her vocals actually, but the video was a complete disconnect from the song. Music was pretty good too.

First off, Subby is a Zappahead/old_fart and has never listened to punk rock, but he's from Jersey and he read a good article in MJ that focused on a Jersey band... so go on

/honestly people, but on with your rants

2012-05-02 01:26:11 AM
Jesus christ that was awful.

Awesome? Really? if shiat were awesome.

2012-05-02 01:43:39 AM
Read the first paragraph or so of the article. I then saw, clear as day, that this would be nothing I'd ever need to listen to.

2012-05-02 03:37:36 AM
Meh. Not a big fan of the vibrato, but the live video FraggleStickCar posted was definitely much better than the track in TFA. Still, when you tell me it's a band on Don Giovanni with a name that makes you think chick band but only has one chick in it, I assume it's gonna sound more like Laura Stevenson and the Cans.
/Even less punk!
