That's a trick question!

The country of New York City. Wait, what?

"Don't act so innocent OWS. You weren't on any mercy mission this time. Give us the plans to disrupt New York City that you created while smoking weed with the others. You are a rebel and a traitor."

I got the impression from the article that they actually talked to the police without a lawyer present?

if by 'talked' to mean 'WTF are you doing in my bedroom at 6am with guns pointed at my head' then yes..they may have 'talked to the cops' without council...

Yes we live in a police state now. Thanks Bush and Obama!

the GOP liter land shills are crapping their pants on this one. the meme they've been pushing is that OWS is both weak/disorganized AND strong/organized terrorists. when confronted, they've just been changing the subject.

I wonder how our shills will spin this one? this isn't exactly the actions of a smaller, less intrusive government after all. granted, our local authoritarians are gonna read this story and start masturbating furiously before they've even reached the end of the page...but anyone who's actually in favor of the 1st amendment is gonna have trouble reconciling the actions of these cops with the ideal of a free and open society. this sort of intimidation is third world kelptocracy stuff, not what the US is supposed to represent!

Only by arresting every one of those OWS traitors can we truly have the freedom and peace that the founding fathers would have wanted.

/sarcasm, for those who don't know me

No, no, see we can tell the difference. They weren't executed. At least there still is a difference.

This is farking ridiculous. Busting in on a manufactured pretense, asking about possible protest activities?

For one thing, how the hell did they identify these guys as activists?

For another, who the hell cares if they protest? I'm pretty sure they can under that whole Constitution thing.

There is some serious fear going on that OWS is going to generate an uncontrollable movement and Bloomberg, Murdoch et al won't be able to control the narrative.

remember - the GOP shills story is that OWS is weak, powerless and easily ignored. except of course when the cops get so afraid they're gonna protest that they pull early morning intimidation raids to shut them up. but OWS isn't REALZ yo!

yeah...don't make much sense to me either but that's the GOP meme machine these days.

You'd think something like this could bring the two sides together to get some sort of change. I mean, I think the tea party is stupid as fark but if they started busting down doors of the tea party organizers doing this shiat, I'd think it was just as ridiculous.

Ted Nugent gets investigated by federal agents after urging people to vote against Obama, and the Army cancels his performance to retaliate against him for expressing his views. Liberals applaud. No First Amendment rights for him.

Occupy movement -- which is engaged in conspiracy "to shut down New York and cities across the country" and to blow up a bridge in Cleveland -- gets investigated. Liberals outraged. What about the First Amendment?

Well, NYC is basically a police state nowadays. I wouldn't qualify all of America as a police state. But yes, these kinds of activities are incredibly telling.

Michael Bloomberg truly is an ass of the highest caliber.

Farking fascism.

With the media desperately trying to link the Ohio 5 anarchists to the larger OWS movement, they'll just bring up how violent they are.

The best thing for a democratic society to do to preserve the rights that all enjoy is to trick out the civilian police force with all sorts of military hardware so they can take the fight to the terrorists that are trying to take those rights away.

I thought the Occupiers were disorganized and had no structure or plan? And I thought that ,whenever a Teabagger does something racist/violent/stupid, it doesn't reflect on the whole movement (no matter how many 'isolated incidents' there are)?

All the bets were off when they started beating people and arresting journalists to clear out the Occupy protestors. As always, the issue wasn't presented in an entertaining format in MSM, so the American people didn't notice or care. Next, they'll bring back the dogs and fire hoses, or at least the modern, high tech equivalent.

In the first case: activist Zachary Dempster said that six NYPD officers broke down the door of his Bushwick, Brooklyn apartment at around 6:15am this morning.

----------
(a) If a person is never given a chance to open the door, do they still have to buy/repair their own door, or are the police responsible?

(b) If the police breakdown a door to get a roommate, do they owe restitution to the homeowner?

If the FarkLawyer Corps could enlighten me, I'd be much obliged.

Storm Troopers is right. This is right out the Waffen SS playbook.

I do so love when people mistake freedom of expression with freedom from repercussions.

Comparing early morning police raids against protestors doesn't even come within the same galaxy of The Nuge getting a knock from secret service for making threatening statements and the army declining to hire him for a performance afterwards.

Jake Havechek: Storm Troopers is right. This is right out the Waffen SS playbook.

It's more like the Gestapo playbook.

The Gestapo had the authority to investigate cases of treason, espionage, sabotage and criminal attacks on the Nazi Party and Germany. The basic Gestapo law passed by the government in 1936 gave the Gestapo carte blanche to operate without judicial oversight. The Gestapo was specifically exempted from responsibility to administrative courts, where citizens normally could sue the state to conform to laws. As early as 1935, however, a Prussian administrative court had ruled that the Gestapo's actions were not subject to judicial review. The SS officer Werner Best, onetime head of legal affairs in the Gestapo,[9] summed up this policy by saying, "As long as the police carries out the will of the leadership, it is acting legally."[4]

They were following up on some guy who was already arrested, just standard procedure folks. They are just checking in to make sure he's not going to do anything stupid, and the kid sounds like he's got the right idea of keeping his head down cause of his case but still supporting the movement.

Was the article really necessary?

Thankfully, I don't think there's much of a chance of Bloomberg winning a national election: liberals hate him becuase he has no regards for civil rights, and Republicans wouldn't vote for him becuase of his stand on guns and gay marriage even though for the most part he's the storm trooper they're looking for. And don't forget, this is the guy that doesn't allow food donations to homeless shelters becuase his people aren't able to measure the fat content.

Mike has no place in public office in any free nation.
