IIRC, the city of Tacoma banned the sale of fortified wine in the downtown area. So what happened? A lot of the winos went out to the suburbs instead, which created more problems.

The tribe's attorney, Tom White, has said if the lawsuit is allowed to go forward, he also will argue Nebraska officials have failed to enforce their own laws by allowing beer sales that far surpass the amount that can be legally consumed.

/also, there has been plenty of "outrage" against Indian mascots. Most NCAA schools have already changed those mascots, though FSU actually has the backing of the Seminole tribe.

Ha, they got an episode of Gangland related to this tribe. I even remember the name because I watched it this weekend "Wild Boyz"

They don't sling dope, they sling booze to make their money. It's the poorest part of the states too.

It's a shining example of the treatment and the acceptance of the Native Americans. They got their land, albeit crappy land, and they're left alone. Sadly this is what has happened.

Pine Ridge is an amazing place all by itself -- some very good, some quite bad. But Whiteclay is unreal -- like driving through every cliche of a trashy, beat up Western town around. It's a dump, and it mostly exists to sell booze to Natives. I don't blame the Rez for wanting sales banned, but I don't know how they can do anything legal about it.

The movie "Skins" was good, but it cleaned up Whiteclay quite a bit.

Actually, the native peoples in Arizona got some of the best land. I'm pretty sure they're going to end up ruining through development and mining, etc. but I have wonderful memories of walking in places that hadn't been logged and mined. I really miss the wind in the pines, the smells of wildflowers, cold mountian river water, being buzzed by countless hummingbirds, being chased by bear and mountain lion.
