There hasn't been such an effeminate Jew so far in the closet since Anne Frank.

He's still a liberal, still a Democrat, and not off the rails wrong. Obama is lying. Deal with it, ex-libs.

I wouldn't say he has gone full Dennis Miller because of one comment.

He may be liberal socailly but from things I've heard from friends of mine in NYC who waited on him at a restaurant he frequented is that he is a cheap bastard. Sure it may be a stereotype but Lovitz epitomizes the thriftiness of members of the tribe. Shakespeare wrote Shylock in the Merchant of Venice specifically for Lovitz

Dennis Miller was never really that funny. He was just good at being an asshole, which was kinda funny to watch. So I guess that's kinda like being a comedian.

He's a lot like Bill Maher in that respect.

Excuse me, Mr. Thespian, but it is you who is lying.

He's not popular around here but I used to be a fan until he went batshiat crazy on 9/12. John Lovitz is just being a typical rich person who doesn't consider himself rich.

It's a publicity stunt.

He gained a degree of notoriety by outing those anti-Semites on Twitter last month and now he's trying to extend his 15 minutes. This dude's been doing dinner theater and local car commercials for the last 15 years. He's trying to revive his career.

You can tell by the way he's reacting to this that it's a publicity stunt. No one could possibly be this aggrieved over random idiotic comments from random people on Twitter.

At least, I hope it's a publicity stunt. If it isn't, this guy has mental problems. Not for his opinions on Obama, but for the way he's letting people flaming him on Twitter upset him so much.

Why do people use the First Amendment defense when critiqued by others? They really don't get how that whole thing works.

Both those options suck but they're both better than Santorum. Jesus fark, I still can't believe anyone seriously thinks he is a viable option. But we're farked regardless, so...meh.

Yea, I used to love Dennis Miller when he was on HBO. Loved the opening rants (I still have the books) and the interviews cause they weren't the usual "ask me the right questions so I can hype what I'm selling" pattern. Then the planes hit and he went Chicken Little on everyone.

One would hope that a republican as POTUS would not duplicate Obama's out of control spending. Funny, because senator Obama made some very good points when Bush was spending out of control (Obama said something akin to enslaving our children due to the debt).

Yeah, liked the show a lot, even went to a live taping. I even thought he was sort of funny as a football announcer. It was amusing to think of football fans getting frustrated with all the arcane references. He lost me when he told some reporter that we might be invading the wrong country but at least we're doing something. I was like, "Yeah. Wait, what?".

What's also funny is that Lovitz thinks he's as rich as the Koch Brothers or something.

One of his old SNL castmates and writing partners believes, in all seriousness, that miller is suffering Early Onset Alzhiemer's, I personally think he's being kind and ignoring the evidence that doing large amounts of coke causes serious premature againg of the brain.

Actually I'm sure it's a matter of he ain't working as much as he used to be, but always assumed those piles of cash he made earlier would be there forever. And when they started running out faster than expected, he focused on the fact that about 1/3 of it went to taxes and decided he was "overtaxed" rather than "living above his means"

Still, he cold-cocked Andy Dick, over the death of Phil Hartman, so I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for him

Heh, I remember his time on MNF. He was REALLY out of place. It was like Bill O' Reilly announcing a space shuttle launch.

I still read those rant books on occasion and I still enjoy them, even if some of the references are horribly outdated. Kinda sad to see his career go the way it did.

I never did get around to reading "Live from New York" but was he a big coke head? Would certainly explain a lot. If this is common knowledge, then I was unaware. I always try to separate the performer from their personal lives.

I don't think the story really is disliking Obama.

I think the story here is past-relevant comedian looking for something to wind up in the spotlight about.

And even then I would barely call it all that much of a story.

Yes, Subby, except if you actually watch the video of his original comments, he says he voted for Obama. Is this the thread where we pretend that being against high taxes with little quality to show for it is a "liberal/conservative" issue?

Are people calling him a mean ol' jew trolling? He's Catholic. Honestly, that one mind f'd me too.

I think he's just mad that he is grouped in with the "rich people who elude taxes are evil" group. He probably agrees that they exist but he is just sick of Obama trying to play the populous and lump them all together.

The top tax rate used to be 80% under Eisenhower. It's now in the low 30s and Obama wants to raise it only slightly on the richest Americans.

Crying about that and claiming class warfare makes him a disingenuous wimp.

2012-05-01 12:38:46 PM

Sybarite: Well, he certainly makes a well reasoned argument.

If we really wanted to talk about people paying their fair share, we'd be basing the numbers on what the government spends, not on what people make. We as a society abandoned that idea -if we ever really followed it in the first place- for a number of reasons, most of them good: for example, spreading the cost of expensive services over the the wider population. But as a result, the "fair share" argument is disingenuous: you can't base fairness on a factor that's not even relevant to the matter at hand.

Subby, that headline has more fail in it then Victoria Jackson does stupid. Lets break this down:

1. Criticizing Obama does not automatically make you conservative. Sometimes you disagree with people in the party that you are affiliated with. Now I know that this is not how things work for the GOP, where if you do not tow the party line every minute of every day you're a RINO and dead to them, but that is just the GOP, not the rest of the world, or even the US.

2. The statement that Lovitz has "turned" unfunny would imply that he was, at some point, funny. This is not Dennis Miller we're talking about here. Its Jon Lovitz. The only worthwhile thing the man has done with his life is punching Andy Dick.

3. How dare you criticize a man who punched Andy Dick?

Magorn: Still, he cold-cocked Andy Dick, over the death of Phil Hartman, so I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for him

This is why I'd give Lovitz a pass.

Former Saturday Night Live star turned conservative activist Victoria Jackson appeared on Showbiz Tonight to defend her opinion that the kiss between Glee characters Kurt and Blaine was "sickening."
