It's really hard for me to feel sympathy for the banks and/or people who are so rich that they can leave such places vacant.

I would have done the same thing when I was a teen. Hell, depending on the circumstances, I might do it now.

"The San Diego county sheriff's department is calling on parents and residents to be on the look-out for this dangerous trend."

Dangerous to whom, exactly?

"Damages were at 50 grand."

Ah, thanks for clarifying that.

Geesh, throw one Fark party in an empty mansion, and everyone gets all upset.

Times must be tough. We always keep at least a skeleton crew at the summer house when we are away for the season.

Oh, poor rich people, they just can't keep the great unwashed down anymore.

I like how they blame it on a new movie. Yeah, cause kids never staged parties at abandoned house before some shiatty movie no one watched came out last year.

I feel really bad for the fully insured rich guy with multiple homes.

This is actually a very real problem. Too many "rich kids" turn out to be worthless due to lack of parental involvement while they are young.

I'm trying to do a good job with my son. Not that I'm especially rich or anything. Everyone should be trying to do their best by their kids.

If they made them available to rent on some kind of sliding scale based on income the banks would get a bit of money and the occupant would have kept out a 400 person party until the place was sold. Suck it greedy banks, I hope the insurance companies fark you over as hard as they do everyone else when it comes to covering damages.

Well, there's the 16 year olds getting alcohol poisoning and putting their fists (or heads) through panes of glass and stuff. Other than that, though..yeah, no problem.

/not sure what kind of brain damage is required to think property damage is fun

Shiat we used to do this all the time. And that was back in the early 90s. There were a bunch of abandoned homes in the are. Some were not lived in for 3-4 decades. They were the best for parties because the areas they were in were out in the middle of nowhere. All you needed was a buddy that had a generator and you had lgihts and music. Alcohol and weed were even easier to get.

When I was ten years old, I lived in a subdivision under heavy construction. My buddies and I used to like to go explore the unfinished houses at night when it was spooky dark. There's a special brand of darkness in an unfinished house. You can feel it on your skin as you slowly edge your way through sawdust smelling rooms, hands held out in front of you, waiting to touch the wall. I was always terrified but curious.

Then one night, five of us were in this one huge mansion of a place. This new kid was with us and I guess he wanted to impress us because he started going into the rooms too quickly, not watching his step. They hadn't finished the flight of steps down to the basement, so there was just an open hole in the floor. Down below, they'd poured concrete with reinforcing bars sticking straight up out of it, like a Viet Cong punji spike pit. The kid fell straight through the hole and landed stomach down on about ten rebar spikes.

He didn't make a sound, not even a gurgle. We ran and got his parents. I still remember how heartbreaking it was watching his dad shine the flashlight down into the pit. His mother screamed and screamed, but there was nothing anyone could do about it.

The article claims that the property has an owner, and I'm sure that the owner is insured.

Pay deductible, get new stuff, raise everyone's rates.

Of course, I'd probably recommend installing an alarm system of some kind if you are leaving properties vacant.

So fark unapologetically hates rich people now, without exception?

2012-05-01 10:47:02 AM
I'd like to cheer the kids on, but it's just not in me this morning. Call it a case of noticing just how old I'm getting, but while that crap went on where I grew up, it was the old abandoned house in the middle of nowhere. That and no one did any damage, because the place did belong to someone, that person being relatively cool with it. If they had done damage, the weekend parties would have to have been moved to someone's house, leading to eventual discovery by the parents.
Now the police are involved. Good luck with those criminal records, kids. You won't get into college(not a good one, anyway) with one of those. Have fun with that minimum wage job for the rest of your life.

/lets just say someone I knew did something very dumb as a senior in HS

It's not so much hate of rich people as, well, empty housing stock, fark it. It's not like they went into someone's home, nobody was living there. Trashing the place is pretty rude but... Yeah I would have done this. I went to parties in uninhabited buildings a few times. Great fun.

And really yes, fark the multiple-house-owning rich when normal people are stuggling every day, and the older generations are tugging property prices ever upwards all the time.

That is actually a great idea. Banks could have a list of reputable people (background checks or something) that are interested in short term leases on the properties. People would have a place to live and the banks wouldn't have to worry about people breaking in to party, steal copper, etc. Of course, this is a pipe dream because banks are stupid and greedy.

They are obviously being planed via social media. It wouldn't be hard to investigate and find out who was involved in picking the time and location and holding them accountable for criminal charges and civil liability.

Multimillion dollar home and drywall? You'd think they would use real building materials.
