I actually like it. Understated.

This is still a weird move to me. Even if they're in Brooklyn I don't see them taking too many fans away from the Knicks. Though they could sell a bunch of tickets if they're cheaper, and the fact that all their stuff will say "Brooklyn" will probably lead to a shiat-ton of merch sales.

Now to see if the Islanders move there too when their lease is up. I know the arena supposedly isn't 100% suitable for hockey, but even so it's probably a still better option than the Coliseum.

At least they have some silver as an accent. This is beyond boring. Paul Lukas had a good line about "this looks like something you'd see in the graphic t's section at Old Navy"

The sports leagues (not just basketball) already sell black-and-white-only versions of their jerseys, might as well cut out the middleman, so to speak

I think they should have gone for a complete overhaul of the logo/brand. Even to the point of dropping the name "Nets." But if they're keeping it, they should have made a cleaner break, a whole new image for a new arena, new town.

I'd be willing to bet that the Dodgers organization, or at the very least Major League Baseball, still owns the rights to that. For crying out loud, the Texas Rangers still had rights over the Curly W, and the league or the Expos/Nationals franchise had to either buy or press the team to give up the rights to that so that it could be re-used for the Nationals organization.

Yeah. Those are some sharp uniforms.

I was thinking maybe something with a head on shape of the bridge (like this):

s3.amazonaws.com

And incorporate an intertwining "B" and "N" somehow.

Just spit balling.

What, did the font not load in the output device or something? What is that? Courier? Helvetica standard?

Should be a custom 'B', not one from a standard pulldown menu...perhaps Comic Sans ;)

You don't have to bet; it's a fact. The LA Dodgers still retain the rights to the logo, script and name "Brooklyn Dodgers" (and they're very, very unlikely to grant permission). It's pretty standard practice in sports. Hell, the Houston Oilers had to get permission from the Jets to become the Tennessee Titans.

Agreed. The history of the New Jersey Nets is all about failure---they should make a complete break from them and start their own tradition. I have relatives in Brooklyn (Park Slope) and they are all very proud of the place. To them New Jersey is a place that they tell jokes about---and now they are keeping the New Jersey basketball team's name?

But while the Brooklyn Bridge is famous, what is it famous for? People freaking committing suicide! Not exactly something to rally behind. Two other immediate choices come to mind: they could go with the Brooklyn Brownstones and celebrate their architecture, or the Brooklyn Bagels and celebrate their food.

You DO know they were the New York Nets before they were the New Jersey Nets, and that the New York Nets were, in fact, quite successful?

While that happens, that's definitely not the first thing that comes to mind for me when I think of the Brooklyn Bridge. And there's no way in hell a sports team would ever be named the Bagels.

It is too bad there is already a "Kings" in the NBA seeing as Brooklyn is King's County.

The borough has an awesome motto "Eendraght Maeckt Maght" meaning "Unity makes strength." The team should have that plastered on everything.

Brooklyn's official colors are Blue and Yellow and this is their seal

The Nets had a chance to do something awesome and I am underwhelmed with what they produced so far. Here is hoping it gets better.

It had nothing to do with the Rangers (or possibly the Twins) and everything to do with politicians were pissy about DC not having full Congressional representation. Plus the original name for the Senators was the Nationals.

I have friends in Park Slope and it's nice but not that different from Hoboken as far as I can tell (and even further from Manhattan). People in both places are absolutely convinced they live in the best place in the world. I figure that's how they justify what they paid to live in a shoebox and listen to their neighbors have sex and yell at each other.

As for people in Brooklyn joking about NJ, well, that's kind of like Kim K calling Paris Hilton an AW.

I thought it was interesting that Jay-Z owns 1.7% of the Nets.

The way ESPN goes on and on about him, you'd think he had 49.9% to Prokhorov's 50.1% stake.

The guy who came up with the Brooklyn Brewery Logo is the same guy who came up with the I Love NY logo and is now in his 80's. I went to the brooklyn brewery a few years ago and they said that he took something like 75% of his going rate, and in exchange for not charging them full price he took some shares of the company and free beer for life.

It looks to plain, it needs something else to liven up the logo

2012-05-01 01:54:12 PM
Why the fark are they keeping the "Nets" name? That's gotta be one of the stupidest names in sports.

Maybe the Cyclones, their Minor League Baseball neighbors, could change their name to the "Brooklyn Foul Poles" to fit in with the theme. Perhaps their football neighbors could rebrand themselves as the "New York/New Jersey Little Flags Atop The Goal Posts Which Indicate Wind Direction And Velocity"!

---------------
*googles it*

Wow. Really? They changed it to the "Nets" because it rhymes with their neighboring Mets and Jets?
Could the Islanders follow suit and be the "New York Debts"?
