Theft and illegal discharging of a firearm are not "made up controversies".

Wayne 985: Does anyone know how this bill is faring? It's sad to think, but I'm assuming it'll pass simply because it's North Carolina.

I haven't seen any polls and I'm to lazy to look it up but I can say from driving around and seeing signs I've probably seen about 15 to 20 signs aginst it for everyone for it.

Dammit, I just lost 5 bucks.

I bet another Farker that the 1st deflection away from this irresponsible gun owner would be a 1st amendment deflection not the 2nd.

Points for "shot a sign, not a person". That slayed.

Ah yes. Destroying someone else's property with a firearm because you don't like their politics. And doing it in a residential area, no less. What a fine spokesman for those who share his political views.

No, it's perfect for my purposes. Do you find this to be a responsible use of firearms?

If he was not firing in the direction of any persons or inhabited dwellings and he was within local laws then there should be zero issue with what he did.
He did less than some anti-Prop 8 folks did in Calif when a few of them went around removing signs advocating the passage of Prop 8.

Pretty much this. You could probably shoot gay people for being gay in some counties in NC and get away with it.

You don't support gun rights. You know how I know that? You aren't condemning this idiot. Most "gun rights" advocates piss away all their time fighting for easing gun restrictions when they should be policing their own.

Condemn the assholes and you'll find the rest of the country less likely to bust your balls.

Reposting from a previous thread:

With NC's Amendment One coming up on the ballot May 8th, to which of course I've already been planning on voting against it; it was brought to my attention yesterday through NCCADV (coalition against domestic violence) that if this passes here in NC I may not be able to renew my DV Order of Protection against my psychotic ex who was subsequently convicted for his last assault on me... because we were never married.

The Amendment would change the State's definition of "Domestic" so all the sudden what I went through was NOT domestic violence, just your run-of-the-mill assault. That DV in front of the OoP is what makes the RPD run a little bit faster if I need them. On top of it, since he was convicted, under the DV OoP, and placed on house arrest, he obviously has not harassed/stalked me since last August, so I would have a hard time proving that I NEED a regular Restraining Order without the DV addition.

Bonus: he gets set off his leash two days after the vote. And I don't have my CCW yet.

/terrified
//ALL of you Farkers in NC: please, please, PLEASE go out on May 8 and vote NO!!!

The problem is that he did it in a horribly unsafe manner, in a populated area. Reasonably certain that's illegal in almost any state no matter how hick-ish. I'm all for owning shooting-irons, but not for patently stupid behavior like this. He should lose any hunting or concealed carry licenses he has along with whatever other penalties go with firing a gun in a populated area.

This happened when I was working a campaign in the North Carolina-y section of Michigan. One of our supporters on the main street in a tiny freaking town. They hit up all the Dem signs they had up.

The supporters just got extra signs, and made a new one to add to the row that had a nice message about what would happen if anyone should try that crap again.

Good times.

Someone should introduce this guy to the concept of exercise. For such a young man, his body looks like a sack of flour. No wonder he's so angry about being gay. Lift something heavier than your fleshlight, Jethro. Your gross little baby body will never cut it on the scene.

coeyagi: bdub77: I live in NC. It's a horrible bill. A huge state amendment and it's being voted on in a primary in May? I mean way to try to sneak this shiat into the constitution. And yes we have the Democrats to thank for that.

Good for bigots - bad for business. If it passes, I fully expect the law to be challenged in the courts.

I'm really tired of people trying to destroy my country and my state.

So Vote Republican?

No, he's just acknowledging that, in the South at least, sometimes your "Democrat" candidate or politician is just as problematic as the local Republicans. We seem to have a plethora of Blue Dog Democrats and the same people and families seem to hold power forever. So, the letter after a name may change or the balance of Rs versus Ds may change, but too often the exact same people are still in office - they've just changed political parties. Last election season, local Democrats down here out did themselves with Tea Party Democrat candidates.

Bdub, feel free to chime in if I've put too many words in your mouth.

Sure, about 40 years ago... most of the Dixiecrats have since become Republicans. They are conservative. Democratic support for civil rights and the Republican southern strategy brought them into the GOP. Remember Zell Miller? He was a hold over from those days and a democratic senator most recently, but he supported the GOP and is very obviously very conservative.

Maybe the original Dixiecrats left to be Republican, but I know plenty of socially conservative Democrats. You can look at voting records of Democrat representatives from conservative states to see the same trend. This Amendment to the NC Constitution was put on the ballot by support from some of these very same socially conservative Democrats.

Yup, it is, back corner of the lot with a dirt pile behind it, wearing safety goggles and camera operator standing outside range of fire. Looks like responsible target practice to me.

As for the issue, if the sign was placed on his lot, as appears to be the case, he has every right to do with it whatever the heck he wants. If however he took it from a neighbor's lawn as the web site claims, than he has committed a violation of election law. Just like the three guys who drove down my block last week tearing down state senator signs... happens everywhere and he will be punished by the state if they find him in the wrong.

If you haven't been to NC in 20 years, then you haven't been to NC. Its recognizable, but its a very different place than it was. Especially Charlotte.

Also, Helms would have been defeated 2 terms earlier if it were up to the natives. His numbers declined every term he was in office, but he got huge bumps in his final two terms from recent transplants that were sympathetic to his ultraconservative wackiness and/or susceptible to the groundbreaking negativity of his campaigns, and didn't appreciate the harm he did to the state's reputation. He was also a super nice charming guy who knew how to get things done for his constituents, which endeared him to a lot of individuals.

Finally, KC opened up a new place on Central called Crazy Fish. Its not as good as Fat "I can still taste the french dip 2 decades later" City, but its pretty damn delicious, and he's experimenting again, which is great. The Diamond on Commonwealth is more in the Fat City vein (the fried pickles are a must).
