This reminds me of old school UFC Tank Abbot attempting to contend with the more recent talent in the ring and getting his ass handed to him, despite the fact that this old bugger seems to have done well for himself in this match.

Kinda disturbing to watch the winner smile like that when his opponent is face down on the mat and borderline non-responsive, though.

Just remember kids. Sometimes the old man will whoop your ass.

Neither one looked liked they knew what they were doing. They were just swinging away.

Advantage? Older guy!

Now GET THE HELL OFF HIS LAWN!

That was awesome. Now the old man, physically, is going to hurt a lot more than that kid the next day, but mentally, the kid took a major blow.

Yeah, and he got his butt handed to him by a 53 year old guy in bad shape, too. I've seen some physically fit 50+ year olds that could scrap. I'm not really sure this guy is one of them. I just think his competition sucked.

Like anything popular MMA has its share of posers who are more into the image and cool t-shirts and acting like a badass (without actually you know, being one) than in putting in the work it takes to really master the skills to become a good fighter. The "MMA" school (actually a car repair place converted to a "combat training gym" by throwing some rubber mats on the floor) near where I live holds semi-regular cage fights at the local fairgrounds. The majority of the fighters are doughy morons who spend the majority of the time getting winded from staring at each other.

This. The "MMA" guy had no endurance, no natural ability, and appeared to not have any training. Hell, he didn't even look like he had much in the way of muscular build.

This reminds me of the time I got beat by the blind guy in high school wrestling.

The 2:20 mark reminds me of when I was 16 and told my Dad (56) that I could kick his ass.

I was wrong.

That kid had just about as much training as the old man. When the silver fox hit the ground and gave the kid his back not once, but two times, that should have been the end.

Just this week I learned that the Green/White Ranger from Power Rangers is now doing MMA. Which is either incredibly cool or super lame. Maybe both?

Fast forward to about 2:20, watch one punch, and save your time. I kind of think this was staged. That looks like a textbook "dive".

I took that step at 15. It was a battle that I eventually lost, but not without getting a few shots in.

My Dad's at my house right now. I think I'll go home after work and get even.

When two untrained fighters meet the one with a 50 lbs weight advantage should win.

2012-05-01 10:38:01 AM
Fairly impressed that the old guy didn't gas out after going at 100% (well, for him) for almost three minutes, untrained.

2012-05-01 10:38:10 AM
Eh...just because you wear a Tapout shirt and own a pair of MMA gloves, doesn't mean you get to call yourself an MMA fighter. Neither guy knew how to throw a proper punch and the young kid didn't take advantage of the blatant telegraphing, the multiple back-givings, and the low hand position. I own a tennis racquet but I don't call myself a tennis player for the exact same reason.

This wasn't a battle between an MMA fighter and an old man. It was a battle between an untrained young kid and an old man.

I've had that same experience- My mother always said that old age and guile shall overcome youth and skill. This guy in the video wasn't particularly skilled, but he looked like he was having fun and he was certainly enthusiastic.

I remember going through my dad's stuff as a kid and finding all of his military certification cards. I didn't think much of it until I was a teenager and thought that it would be fun to see what my old man could really do in a more serious engagement- it took all of about 30 seconds for me to have my ass handed to me. Old man strength combined with decades of training and doing things in secret around the world for the US gov.t is a deadly combination. He thought it was funny that I would even try.

The MMA fights are too scientific, bring back tough man. Those were fun to watch, you'd get two fat guys throwing haymakers until one connects in one fight and a 100lb weight disadvantage in the next and then a golden glove guy versus some redneck, it was crazy.

I was watching tough man once and Lawrence Taylor was doing commentary. Some of the funniest TV I have ever seen. There was a long haired guy getting his ass beat and one announcer said "He can't see too well with that hair in his face" to which LT replied "He can't see too well with that GLOVE up in his face". LT took every opportunity to mock each and every participant.

Try watching the World Vale Tudo Championship instead if MMA has too many rules for you.

Looks like Stephen Bonner recorded that one...er, well, it was him providing commentary at the end...

Which one was trained again? Kid didn't look very experienced either, his punches were just as wild as the 'untrained' guy's were. He had the old man down turtled up pretty early and could have easily taken his back or threw a D'arce on him (look like he went for a weak guillotine at first, then gave up)...something tells me neither had a whole lot of experience...

He was a USCG combat veteran from WWII. Didn't even get one shot in.

And some people are natural born fighters. The older guy (hey, he's only 8 years older than me so I can't say "old" guy) took some hard shots and stayed on his feet. He's built for fighting. Yeah, training is great, but what it boils down to is what your brain can take. The older guy has better cushioning inside his brain case, or, his neck muscles are better able to compensate for the sloshing motion, and he's better able to absorb and manage the pain. The young guy, though looking fitter, doesn't have the same genetic ability to take a shot to the head. I know a lot of people have had fights, me included. One thing I learned though is you don't use your hands (thank crap for Krav). You use the biggest striking area you can use (legs, knees, elbows) that will impart the most force. And hands break, bone is hard after all. Elbows and knees not so much. Not taking anything away from the older guy, but that was beautiful and a great demonstration that when it comes to close range combat, age means sh*t.

The kid.
Trained in taking a dive anyway.

2012-05-01 10:58:58 AM
The winning move was actually the culmination of a 20-to-30-second setup as the old man caught his breath and waited for the kid to move in unprotected. Trap set, trap sprung, bean pounded, kid KO'd.

Cythraul: Kinda disturbing to watch the winner smile like that when his opponent is face down on the mat and borderline non-responsive, though.

That didn't seem too inappropriate to me, he was smiling in adrenaline-rushed-but-completely-drained amazement that he was even standing. The other guy was getting a nap in!

Probably would be hamstrung by there being no toque to pull over the guy's head and then being told by the ref to go pick up his gloves.

2012-05-01 11:02:32 AM
Old man probably had a beer or two beforehand, not knowing he was going to fight. Just enough to relax him and numb a little pain. He reminds me of someone you would see get in a barroom brawl in Australia, for some reason or another...

The same thing that happened to every other fighter in the early UFC days who didn't have a grappling background. He'd get taken down and put in a submission.

When my kids want to fight me (playing) they point out how old and out of shape I am, and I just say, 'yeah, but I know more dirty tricks'.

2012-05-01 11:14:34 AM
Old man stared at the gloves before the fight and said, "real men don't need these."

2012-05-01 11:16:55 AM
We have a couple of local "MMA academies" around here, so there's a lot of young hardasses who sometimes feel the need to show just how tough they are.

Every once in a while, though, one of them screws up. Bad.

When Old Fat Warehouse Worker Guy one-shots a wannabe MMA champ, you get to see some fast career decisions made. "Maybe I'm not cut out for this" is often the first one. If the young guy manages to stand back up, "where's the nearest emergency room" comes a close second.

I am confused; which is the MMA fighter?

Wearing a TapOut shirt and watching UFC clips on youtube doesn't make one a MMA fighter. Even amateur MMA fighters train at least 4 days a week for several months before a fight. Professionals train way, way more. If the 21 year old had actually trained MMA, the old guy would've gotten farked up.

Watch the documentary 'Knuckle' on Netflix, about Irish travellers settling their feuds with bare knuckle boxing matches. Intriguing and sad at the same time.

Hell I've only been training jiu jitsu for 4 months and I train 4-5 days a week and already have a tournament under my belt.

This kid probably did some glorified cardio kickboxing with a juicehead and thought that made him a fighter.

Untrained? Inexperienced, probably. The old man had some idea what he was doing, just crappy technique. And, obviously, these guys weren't trained in submissions. Bit of standup at some gym and probably former wrestlers.

/and you try landing a D'arce choke, harder than it looks
