Going against the trend? Like being the only state in 1984 to NOT go for Reagan.

Well done, Governor Dayton.

2012-05-01 06:28:33 AM
Thank you.

Republican proposal: Have doctors stare at women as they swallow evil abortion pills. That'll learn them sluts.

Dayton's veto: Keep things safe, accessible, and cost-effective for patients.

Gee... one of these seems like common sense, but I can't figure it out because a Republican is trying to stick a transvaginal ultrasound wand in my ass.

Hey, a smart, Minnesota Democrat...oh crap.

Governor Dayton, you and Senator Franken both, have EVERY plane you fly in thoroughly checked beforehand.

I see the Minnesota Legislature has continued the Teabagger Party mantra of focusing like a laser on job creation.

2012-05-01 08:44:48 AM
The governor issued an expected veto Monday of a bill that would have required physicians to be physically present every time an abortion pill like RU-486 is prescribed, and again every time such a pill is swallowed.

Hurf durf what war on women

2012-05-01 08:44:51 AM
He also rejected legislation that sought to allow Minnesota to opt out "all federal laws, rules, regulations and orders regarding health care," including the Medicare and Medicaid programs.

Correct me if I'm wrong, and I most likely am, but isn't that tantamount to seceding? "Look, we like your military protection and all that, we just don't want to necessarily abide by your rules."

It's the G0P's standard anti-abortion platform using the "death by a thousand paper cuts" method of making it harder and harder for women to access health services at play here.

Well, it's good to see that one state has anti-derp protection, at least for now.

2012-05-01 08:52:02 AM
I could maybe understand the reasoning behind saying that a doctor has to be present to prescribe RU-486 instead of what sounds like doing it over the phone.

But making a law that doctors have to be present for the pill to be taken - well, why stop there? Did you know that some people have a medical condition that can cause them to die if they swallow a peanut? Doctors should be required to be on hand every time a pregnant woman opens up a can of honey roasteds!

One representative proposed an amendment where the doctor is required to have a look of stern disapproval on his face while the woman takes the pill, but it died in subcommittee.

Closer to nullification, though that ultimately led to secession doctrine.

Mind you, the concept in and of itself is at least debatable, but the entire concept will be forever tarred in American history via its association with politicians and states that wished to invoke states' "rights" to deny basic rights to millions of individuals.

Yes, but those a-holes in Minnetonka and Edina use them to advance such stupid legislation and policies.

And then there's Anoka, "We're 'real America' but we think we're not hicks."

No, states can opt out of Medicare, but you lose a crap ton of federal money if you do.

They should resubmit with a requirement that Doctors have to make a "tsking" sound and shake their heads ruefully before writing the script.

Being anti-abortion is simply a losing position. If you want to prevent abortions, allow sexual education to be taught. Make prophylactics free. Provide more life choices for kids.

You'll see the number of abortions drop significantly.

If you try to prevent abortions once the horses have left the barn, you're already too late.

I had to double take that line to make sure it isn't just my lack of sleep putting crazy words on my screen. Especially since they said it was "to protect the health of the woman", because our frail dainty little flowers might not fully understand what that little pill is doing to their precious bodies.

Seriously guys, this is getting to be pants on head retarded.
benisawesome.files.wordpress.com

/next bill, the doctor must remove his pants and put them on his head before the woman ingests the pill, just so she can look at his magnificent package before deciding if she wants to go through with it.
//Might as well outlaw female doctors in this bill while we can, they don';t need to be handing each other abortion pills, what would Jesus think!?

Last week, Dayton vetoed a bill that would have required the state to inspect abortion clinics

Gotta love those smaller-government, regulation-hating Republicans hypocrites.

That is a lie of the liberal media! The requirement was never that restrictive. It only said that the doctor must sigh deeply, and shake his head at least three times.

Three is the minimum. I'm just saying that some people do more.

I'm so sick of these lying disengenous partisan hacks:

The bill's sponsor, Rep. Joyce Peppin, R-Rogers, pitched it as a measure meant to protect women's health in the event of side-effects from the pill.

Go fark yourself you lying piece of shiat. This never had anything whatsoever to do with women's health. It was about making it more difficult for woman to gain access to contraception and abortion. If that's your position, fine, that's your perrogative, but don't try to cover it up in some bullshiat legislation under the guise of women's health.

It's a sad state of politics when something that should be nuked without batting an eye comes up for a friggin' medal of honor.

I applaud his decision, but logic and common sense shouldn't be so damned difficult.

If it was just the Medicare and Medicaid then they might have a chance of just refusing the federal money. But it sounds like what they really want to do is to be write a law saying they can just ignore Roe v. Wade and Obamacare. Of course it would also have the added effect of legalizing all stem cell research in their state unless they've gotten around to writing their own law about that, not to mention getting rid of annoying oversight of drug trials.

In other news, Pfizer is opening up a new drug trial in the Minneapolis elementary school system. Enroll your kids in a study to determine new uses for and to extend the patent of viagra today! $5 a head, waiver of legal rights required!

some more paranoid folks (myself included) think that paul wellstone's plane was intentionally downed back in 2002 or whenever it was. he was one of the most vocal opponents of the iraq war in the senate, and then conveniently he died in a plane crash.

Karac: I could maybe understand the reasoning behind saying that a doctor has to be present to prescribe RU-486 instead of what sounds like doing it over the phone.

No, this doesn't make even the littlest bit of sense. Doctors prescribe meds over the phone every single day. Singling out one particular medication is government interference in the doctor-patient relationship..

Really getting sick and tired of democrats trying to force their agendas on religious people. We need to just ban abortions and get back to living life for love and for god instead of reaping the wages of sin and death upon the good christians in this nation.

Well, I didn't know that doctors could do that; that's why I inserted the 'maybe'. With the knowledge that this law would give only RU-486 this restriction, I'll take that maybe back and replace it with another 'go fark yourselves, you shower of farking hypocrite coonts'.

Yeah, before this women had no recourse if there were any side effects.

What is the sudden fascination with passing laws to deal with problems we already have laws to deal with?
