Young said she and her husband wrote several checks, including one for $8,000, to help Hunter pay for her spiritual adviser's services.

Is "spiritual adviser" a euphemism for coke, or what?

I can't believe I'm not making money off these people.

What's the problem, subby? Getting the wrong sauce on a Reuben is enough to set off a spiritual crisis in anybody.

// I always get mine with mustard-- none of that Russian dressing or Thousand Islands crap.

// Just looked it up-- originally, Reubens were made with Russian dressing and russian dressing was made with "sour cream, a tomato product, caviar, with some pungency- possibly from horseradish-- and no mayonnaise. That sounds much better.

Indeed. That is good. But mustard? Then don't call it a Reuben.

DRESSING. It's dressing, not "sauce". Thousand Island to be precise.

Since nobody knows the real origin of the sandwich, I'll continue to call it a Reuben with mustard instead of mayonnaise. Enjoy your mayonnaise if that's what you like. It makes no sense to me. That other reference shows that a mayonnaise based dressing is no more original to the sandwich than mustard.

The defining ingredients are corned beef, rye bread, swiss cheese and sauerkraut. You can put ketchup on it as far as I am concerned and have as much right to call it a Reuben as those mayonnaise based versions.

FTFA: "The first thought in my mind was, how in the world could Mr. Edwards ask one more thing of me, of us?" she recalled. "I was mad. I was upset. Of course I said, 'Absolutely Not!' I screamed at him. I cursed at him."

But Young said she eventually agreed to go along with the plan after a telephone conference call with her husband, Edwards and the candidate's mistress, Rielle Hunter.

During that call, Cheri Young said Edwards went into a stump speech, explaining why his presidency would be good for the country.

Everybody involved in this thing is completely f*cking insane. Seriously. They are totally detached from reality. All of them.

Biatches be insane.

These are all bad people. They have let power and money separate them from their humanity.

A reuben is much better with mustard. Russian dressing blows. Do the Russians actually eat that crap?

2012-04-30 11:55:09 PM
Strange side note; Rielle Hunter was the inspiration for the character Allison Poole who shows up in the books of Jay McInerney and Bret Easton Ellis. She's even in American Psycho.

Good Russian dressing is godlike. The stuff they usually stick on Reubens is just a crappy Thousand Island.

I'd still take him over McCain, Palin, or Romney, considering what his actual policies would look like.

And he never came close to being President.

$8000 does not seem farfetched to pay for one of those "spiritual adviser" people. However, it seems absurdly little for "hush money", which is what the campaign would have had to pay for the "spiritual adviser" to not go to the press with this. Tabloids would have paid six figures easily for this story.

Apparently subby's never had a bad reuben. Sauerkraut can do a number on your intestines, enough to justify an exorcism.

That's not what burns you.

If he would have been the nominee, McCain would have won.

Wow. What part of "Don't stick your dick in crazy" did this guy not get?

Meh, he deserves everything that he gets now. I still don't get how these people didn't realize that you can't keep something like this hidden for long. Interesting to note here how the Dems treat their moral failures as opposed to the Reps. Not really getting TPOC's "Thanks Dems" thing here. Kerry/Edwards > Bush/Cheney. If Kerry had been elected Edwards would have had to step down in disgrace and been replaced which would have hampered his ability to move his agenda forward somewhat but not as much as some pundits have speculated. Considering Dumbya actually won his second term and what occurred on that watch I find the idea that America "dodged a bullet" in 2004 by not electing Kerry/Edwards to be laughable. That noted, the 8k kickback to Riele's "Spiritual adviser" and her apparent flakiness/high maintenance factor are just an extra layer of icing on Edward's massive FAILcake here.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

/That kid is probably doomed.

I'm so glad this man didn't become vice president...although...maybe if he had Kerry would have pulled the troops out of Iraq quicker. If he'd been smart, he'd have taken a personal loan out and paid her off.

Either way, he denied his kid and that makes him lower than the low in my book. Fark off Edwards. You suck.

Pro tip: do NOT get a Reuben in the UK.

Corned beef here is specifically corned beef hash, most often pressed into sandwich lunch meat size.

A Reuben here is hot corned beef hash on bread. Freaking nasty.

I have learned to looked out for Salt Beef (darned near impossible to find around here, need to try the Jewish area of Gateshead next) when trying to fill a proper corned beef craving.

When Edwards first came on the national scene, he sounded like a good guy, and I certainly liked his talk.

But WTF, you know? Involved with a woman who HAS a spiritual adviser? What a dolt.

Sounds like you are in the North East. If you are down in London, there should be plenty of places where you can get salt beef. I used to get these amazing salt beef sandwiches from a Jewish cafe in Faringdon. 1 quid for a real door-stopper. But that was 15 years ago or so, so I don't know if the place is still there, and I can't remember it's name anyway.
Manchester has a fairly big Jewish community too, so you might be in luck there for salt beef.
As for a Reuben's sandwich in the UK, well until this thread I had never heard of it before, so yeah, the UK may not be the place for one.
