So, with direct evidence that a previous president and other GOP candidates would not go in to Pakistan to get bin Laden and comments about not caring....and with Obama making casual reference to the event in a short ad months from the election ....the reasonable takeaway is any president would've fond this and this is the only thing Obama has to run on.

Ok doke

No, you just assumed, and assumed incorrectly.

Well actually, that's giving Obama way too much credit. He just flat out lied as he usually does. He knew perfectly well that Romney never implied any such thing and if he didn't then he's a complete moron.

The statement was that killing or capturing Osama bin Laden was not the end all, be all, in the war on terrorism and wouldn't really mean a lot in the overall effort to stem the threat.

Only a complete tool or complete moron would say that means that Romney wouldn't have ordered the strike. Any president would have ordered the strike, but would anyone here like to state with a straight face that killing bin Laden, a good thing in and of itself, has significantly changed the war on terrorism in the long run?

No one, Republican or Democrat, had the balls to stand up and say what Obama did. None of them wanted to look like Jimmy Carter. Even on the eve of the attack, Joe Biden was trying to talk him out of it. Bush, Romney, McCain, Clinton, Dodd, Biden, none of them were willing to make the call. Obama did. Only Obama. You can try to deflect by bringing up Gitmo (really?), but nothing you or the GOP can say will ever change this:

I seem to recall McCain AND Romney bashing Obama for his stance on Bin Laden in Pakistan and saying that they wouldn't do exactly what Obama did. McCain went so far as to bash him on it in a national debate.

But then again, history has a liberal bias apparently, and we can't trust archives or anything like that because the people that administer them are librarians and lib is already in the job title and they totally can't be trusted and universities are all liberal lie factories and science is all a liberal conspiracy...

To misquote what Rmoney said in 2007 is just beneath the dignity of the office, but I guess Arianna Huffington, that crazy right-wing radical, can explain it better:

-----------------------------
HUFFINGTON: I agree completely - I agree with the Romney campaign. I think that using the Osama bin Laden assassination, killing the great news that we had a year ago in order to say basically that Obama did it and Romney might not have done it, which is the message. ... I don't think there should be an ad about that. ... [T]o turn it into a campaign ad is one of the most despicable things you can do. It's the same thing that Hillary Clinton did with the 3 a.m. call. You know, you are not ready to be commander-in-chief. [...]

HOST: In a campaign aren't you supposed to tout the accomplishments of what you've done?

HUFFINGTON: But this is not just what this ad did, does. What the ad does is questions, if we're talking about the same ad. ... It quotes a snippet from Romney in '07 and uses that to imply that Romney would not have been decisive. There's no way to know whether Romney would have been as decisive. And to actually speculate that he wouldn't be is to me not the way to run campaigns on either side.

False equivocation. Romney is trying to assert that of course he would have made the same call, as if he would have ever had the opportunity to make it. It took more than one call to culminate into that mission, it took reinstituting the man hunt, dedicating manhours and manpower, it took actually taking initiative to track the bastard down, and then it took a couple of mission critical decisions (big strike team, no missiles, confirm the kill) to pull it off. Romney's trying to play this off as a nuclear button issue, as if his REACTION would be the same to the situation, except that he would have never taken any steps to be put in a situation to take the farker out in the first place. Obama is perfectly right to smack the shiat out of him at every opportunity with that. And I applaud him for doing so.

Even the Fox News article on this admits that Romney had to "clarify" his position a few days later. If we can't criticize Romney for what he says at the time and have to wait for his "clarifications" then everything will be off the table, since he's been "clarifying" his positions since the early 90s.
