I know Apple is innovative, but releasing a 20th century computer in the 12th century seems suspect.

I vividly remember being at some rich kid's pool party in the '80s, when he busted out one of these, and I was duly impressed:

Portable record players are wonderful if you like to shop for a lot of obscure old vinyl. Take one in with you and sample as many records as you like.

I remember wanting the portable record player.

I want the portable record player just to see if I can overspeed the motor and jerry rig the release mechanism. I want some spinning vinyl of death.

I assumed from the headline the inventions would be recent, but aiming for a retro look or purpose. Instead it was a list of 10 old inventions, leading off with the soviet plane/tank.

Revealing one line of text at a time....

THAT IS NOT HOW THIS TECHNIQUE WORKS.

Some people have trouble with their eye re-reading lines. This covers up the lines you've already read to eliminate re-read. If you think it sounds silly get a ruler and start covering the last line you read.

The idea of a machine to do this is a gimmick. But the trick is part of a combination that can get you into the highest ranks of speed readers.

/My reading speed varies based on topic.
//I can kill a typical business book in an hour
///I can dwell in depth on science for days.

You know what? I've seen a lot of things on Fark and elsewhere. Oh, the things I've seen.

Usually, they evoke a reasonably clear feeling. Humor. Joy. Sadness. Insight. Nausea. Or maybe some combination of those and more.

Now?

I honestly have no idea how I feel about that thing. I stare at it, and can't figure out if it's a Do Want! A WTF? A 'shop? Or what. I'm completely neutral and completely mystified.

It's a ryno one wheel electric motorcycle.
Does 20mph and the designer is trying to mass produce it.
Reminds me of the bikes from Venus wars, and it is indeed want worthy.

The length of that list usually drives me away from websites.
It's oddly like those tv shows that show funniest commercials.

Am I the only one that noticed there are only 9?
1) Flying Tanks
2) Portable Record Player
3) Gas Shooting Riot Car
4) Vacuum Beauty Helmet
5) Robot Reading Helper
6) Flying Saucer Camera
7) Monowheel Vehicle
8) 20th Anniversary Mac
9) Phone Answering Robot

And, "Weird Retro Inventions" invokes the idea of something modern but, styled after or duplicating the function of an older tech.Except for the Mac none of these really meet that criteria.

I want my 10th item dammit.

Except it's just a stereo camera, the description is either nonsense or they couldn't find a photo of the supposed flying saucer camera,

There was a version of the readamatic that passed a light beam highlighting the line to be read. This was part of a system for training speed readers before the "look at the entire page" method was taught.
I've done both and it drives the wife & kid crazy that I can read a couple of novels a day.
