I bet it'll leaks oil like new in no time.

So there are weekend rebels in Japan? Ride the ol' Harley four kilometers down to the Sports bar for a saki and watch the sumos go at it. Sit in the parking lot with a bunch of other Harley owners and talk about their Harleys. Drive four kilometers home.

What'd you do this weekend, Hiro?
Oh, you know. I rode the Harley. It was great.

2012-04-30 09:48:41 AM
Looks like an early 90's or Softail Night Train. Couldn't see the cylinder heads very well. If they're black, it's a Train. Definately lowered in the rear. The leaking oil thing is a thing of the past.

Quite a find. Hope the owner's is still around to reclaim it.

You know, I really hope we see a story in the next week about returning this to the owner. As awesome as it would be to make a find like this, I wouldn't be able to stop wondering if the owner survived the tsunami, and what their life is like now.

/man, has it already been more than a year? I remember just watching coverage of the tsunami live for hours online

I'm sure soaking in salt water is great for metal.

Respect the items found? Wth? I would have immediately tried to haul it out of there. Get it off the beach and in a non-rust-happy environment. THEN worry about who it belongs to.

How does a 700-1000 pound bike become flotsam? Doesn't "flotsam" share a root word with "float"?

CSB: I was out riding yesterday, tons of bikes on the road because of the nice weather. 8PM rolled around, and every. single. cruiser. dissappeared from the roads. I guess they're pretty tough rebels, unless the sun goes down, or it's a bit chilly.

Do I actually need to explain the difference between a boat and a Harley?

stuhayes2010: I'm sure soaking in salt water is great for metal.

My Saturn SL1 has seen 15 Canadian winters with salt levels probably as high as the ocean sometimes. And it's just fine. Yes, I've had to replace some exposed components over time, but in general metal can be resurfaced. And HD is probably one of the best bikes on the planet. I'm sure with some TLC this could be back on the road in no time.

- not an expert, so there's probably farkers who have a lot more insight into this kind of thing that will be able to say for sure.

No. Actually true. Harley is a great export product for the US. It's a slice of "americana" that East Asians are definetly buying. I'm not sure about their market share but I saw a few over there and it gets some attention over the hum drum Japanese bikes.

Nope, but since you're still confused, here's a second visual clue:

It clearly did float over the ocean, so I'm not sure what you're having trouble with.

Me too. I have an amazing collection of tsunami videos that I gathered.

One that amazes me every time I watch it is this here. It is certainly not the most destructive one, but it shows the relentless rise of the waters and how scared the guy filming must of gotten as the waters kept getting higher and higher and higher.

I HATE THE LOUD PIPES!!! I don't care about the dentists being weekend rebels with the Harleys my one and only complaint are the obnoxious loud pipes! I live on a country road and all summer long they roll on by in their groups of 10+ and the noise drowns out even normal conversation in my living room. I don't buy the safety aspect I ride a scooter around town and I am way less visible than some cracker on a giant Harley but not once have I thought "maybe I should make my scooter louder... for safety!".

I like the part where nobody acknowledges the motorcycle being in a large volume displacing container... which is kinda like a boat.

I thought jetsam was specifically for floating debris that was intentionally thrown overboard to lighten a ship. Usually jetsam sinks.
