(NYPost)   NYC's Freedom Tower - which will surpass the height of the Empire State Building today - is not even finished yet and it's already at war with another NYC building. You know what happened last time a couple of buildings went to war?   (nypost.com) divider line 32

I hate that name, so much, 'Freedom Tower.' It's ridiculous. There, I said it. It's a huge phallic shaped piece of propaganda being named something like that.

A monument not to brave American Derring Do, but now to a 10 year bonanza of greed, profiteering, graft and corruption.

Socialism would be a welcome alternative to this crap.
Can American Business no longer find it's head with both hands?
Workin' the little head, yea, but, I mean the one where something resembling a semi open market is managed by good business sense instead of GIMMEgimmeGIMME.

You have to love how we went all 1950's Soviet Union right after 9/11. "Freedom Tower", "Patriot Act", "Homeland Security"... holy shiat. It's always seemed like a bad joke to me. I'm amazed that we don't have a Ministry of Information and Two Minute Hates.

This text is now purple: Mrtraveler01: I know you weren't but it's still a pretty interesting fact. I've always told folks that if I'm going to work in a tall high rise building. I'm going to bring a parachute and keep it under my desk just in case.

Nothing wrong in being proactive right?

I'd rather pack a squirrel suit or a glider frame. A parachute won't help me escape from the building laterally.

You do know that you can steer a parachute, right? Hell, even if you don't, the odds of falling straight down are negligible so you would either slam into the building or land a pretty far distance away.

I admit I'm an asshole BUT if I were the Boss of Important Stuff and I really had wanted to send a message about how this wasn't going to be tolerated, I'd have not gone to war in the Middle East... No... I'd have sent over the Corps of Engineers and a division of Marines. I'd have had them tear Mecca down, brick by brick, and bring it here - and put it where the WTCs used to stand. I think it would have been the world's greatest trolling. I also think that this is why I should never be allowed to be the Boss of Important Stuff. So, well, there is that...

At war now means offering a competing product with attractive features and probably offering competitive rates in order to get tenants to fill your new building?

We're REALLY stretching the definition of "at war" here... Also:

Tonight, the agency will light the new tower in a blue-and-white color scheme, in celebration of surpassing the Empire State Building's 1,250 feet.
Those colors, sources said, are supposed to mock the Empire State Building's controversial 2010 decision not to light the building in honor of the 100th anniversary of Mother Teresa's birth.

So basically you just told us that your "sources" are stupid and making shiat up, and are probably some hobos you found rummaging through the dumpster behind your apartment building.

That is the dumbest article I've read in a long time. And I'm including Daily Fail articles in that assessment.

Meh, I still think that they should have built two new towers that looked exactly like the old two towers. It would have been the ultimate F-U to the terrorists.

They're building four towers. One WTC (or Freedom Tower) is the tallest of the four.

Ironic enough, Goldman Sachs used to be in the original WTC and many of the workers who did jump from the burning tower were Goldman Sachs employees.

and since then, they've renegotiated their leases with their other high-rise spaces and moved to lower floors.

Can't say that I blame them.

Building a park or a monument would be the absolute worst thing they could possibly do with the site.

They did build a park and a monument.

its being 1776' tall is also stupid and childish...i always thought we may as well paint it red white and blue and have giant speakers blaring George M Cohen 24/7 while sparklers a thousand feet high burned through every night...fortunately it has been renamed 1 World Trade Center (officially) and 'freedom tower' monicker will drift into oblivion. Out of spite I will refer to its height in meters (541 meters)...

Freedom Tower is just a nickname. The official name is One World Trade Center.

That it is a tad better. But one world sounds kinda cheesy too.

And now my tinfoil hat is really tingling. One world? Illuminati naughty.

I wished they chose a more exciting design. Weren't there a few other submissions from major architectural firms? I think the one we ended up with is the most conservative one of all!

Some countries are building really nice futuristic looking buildings and we are building one that wouldn't look any different if it was built in the 1960s.

Theres more money to be had in a construction site for the people invested in it. Shuffling the paperwork for the site has become an industry in and of itself. Its to the benefit of all involved that they drag it out as long as possible and keep their jobs rather than build it and lose them.

They named it Freedom Tower so when it gets knocked down they can literally say that Freedom was lost that day. It's only a matter of time.

It's no different than doing things in the name of Jesus and fulling getting away with it because it's Jesus.
