Hi I'm Joel, and my camera sucks, so I made video of people with better cameras taking pictures.

2012-04-30 08:39:51 AM
My 5dMkII with a 400mm lens was able to identify a stray balloon from a mile away. I guess no photographers are UFO buffs.

Mylar pie plates.

See. There. It's been identified. Go about your inability to photograph things.

2012-04-30 10:32:53 AM
Didn't this already get exposed years ago? I'm pretty sure I read about it here.

It's a balloon.

2012-04-30 10:35:04 AM
I guess it really is a UFO, since at the time they couldn't identify it as a balloon

but it's not aliens or swamp gas reflecting the light over venus

/someone is going to start pranking these guys with UAVs soon, mark my words

I predict that a silvery vehicle will arrive at my house this evening between 6:30 and 7:00.

See how that works?

It's an airplane towing an advertising banner. There was a street festival on Broadway yesterday, and an airplane towed a banner up and down along Broadway for a while. The festival was about 2.25 miles east of Lafayette Park, where the video was filmed.

Chinese lantern weather balloons. There, that was easy.

You all havr no imagination. Clearly, there is an alien spacecraft in that picture, not a dirty "lense." From here, Id guess E.T., Predator, or Roger from American Dad.

2012-04-30 10:58:12 AM
DrRatchet nailed this one. That is EXACTLY what a plane towing a banner would look like. I thought acrobatic skyjumper at first, because of the color pattern on the long piece, but banner is an even better explanation.

With all the intelligent folks out there who make a compelling and perfectly logical case for the existence of life elsewhere in the universe, why is it that 99% of all attention is directed to embarrassing morans who are jonesing for their next probing?

I saw this in a Brady Bunch epsode.

HotWingConspiracy: It's a balloon.

At one point in the video around 2:50 one of the spectators even says "No, the balloon went that way."

summon UFO = tell people what time to look in the sky to see your hoax

Also, while the deniers always say "well why are all the images so fuzzy?" that's just because that's how photography works. For instance, even in this case of what is undeniably a fake I doubt anyone got a good enough shot of the object to verify that just from their photo. Not even the guy with the big telephoto rig at 2:34 in the video. The object is just too small compared to the background, etc. Not only that but a crisp, clear video in today's world of easy computing is almost meaningless as evidence anyway.

/also what kind of idiot goes to bring a camera "to film a UFO" and doesn't even clean the massive amounts of crud off his lens?

Look, you can call it a UFO. I can call it a UFO. It's O.K. Really. All that says is that it's unidentified, and we can all move on to the next gathering of fans. Or tinfoil hats. Whatever. In any case, it's very liberating to be able to just say "It's unidentified."

/suppose it's because I don't care that much

Not to play into the cliche, but it looks like a weather balloon.

Or a flare tied to a balloon and set to go up at a certain time so a lot of people could see it.

That was a great book. I still want to get that green glow in the dark tape and scare the shiat out of someone in a "haunted house," even though I'd probably get arrested for it now.

PC LOAD LETTER: My 5dMkII with a 400mm lens was able to identify a stray balloon from a mile away. I guess no photographers are UFO buffs.

No, none of them are. Nobody ever shoots a UFO with a high quality camera. This is in part because alien believer types tend to be, well, not that monied and as such don't have good equipment. The other reason is that normally if you see a UFO and look at it with a good lens, it isn't so "U" anymore because you can figure out what it is.

Why no aliens yet? Not terribly, but this makes me slightly angry. You can see from my name I really want to meet an alien. And still nothing. WTF?

Do I need to send messages into space? How do I help out?

Yep, using a high quality camera to identify the balloon usually dismantles the whole aliens idea.

Straight-on flash phone cameras, however, are renowned for their quality ghost and UFO captures.
