(Tucson Citizen)   If you've got 500 pounds of pot stashed in your house, it's probably not a great idea to call the cops when someone fires shots at your residence   (tucsoncitizen.com) divider line 42

Amendment IV

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

500 to 600 pounds? shiat, I'll bet the drug sniffing dogs in the next county were going crazy over that.

2003-11-03 03:09:02 PM
Why does the headline say they nabbed a "ton" of pot when the article clearly states they nabbe 5-6 hundred pounds of pot.

Is a ton not still 2000 lbs in the USA or is this sorta like when the cops break down the 500 lbs to gram-sized units in order to estimate the "street value" of their haul?

I wish everything fun wasn't illegal.
I'd have white slaves shooting off fireworks into vats of dank weed.

Deputies obtained a search warrant after smelling marijuana upon approaching the house ...

Remember potheads, we can smell you a mile away. You can't smell it, but non-smokers can :)

I dont think that applies when they can smell it out side of your house.

2003-11-03 03:15:26 PM
Sure it does-it applies as probable cause.

2003-11-03 03:18:14 PM
Yea, I did not make that clear. Im thinking if they can smell dank from outside, that would fall under probable cause. If they brought over a dog, and he rolls over and dies. Corse with weed, he would roll over and eat a pizza or something. I dont think a search warrent would be needed.

I knew a pot dealer/bookie who called the cops when his house got broken into. They never did find the burglar, but he got arrested.

It's not everyday that Jim Varney finds his dead a$$ in a pot-post.

Cheers.

No big loss. If the weed was really any good, do you think the guys would be aware enough to shoot up the neighborhood ?

"Teen reports shots at home; cops respond, nab 4-ton pot

More than 500 pounds of marijuana were seized by deputies..."

I think they mean when the cops searched the house, it was four tons. But by the time the weed got to the station, it was only 500 pounds left.

Well I know that the force required to lift all that pot one foot per second is one hella high horsepower.

Prohibition sucks, seriously. These people weren't violating anybody's rights, instead they were the victims of violence and now they're probably going to lose their house, jobs, etc ... all just for reporting it. We all end up paying for the extra police, prosecutors, court time, incarceration, probation officer, drug testing, and possibly foster care charges. Prohibition forces a certain class of people away from the traditional conflict resolution resources available to the rest of us, the police. Then it blames the thing it prohibits for causing the ensuing rise in violent DIY alternatives, which might explain why this girl got shot at in the first place.

If you have 4 tons of pot in your place. Call me.

2003-11-03 03:30:24 PM
I think the Cops were behind the shooting. They got a tip from a stoolie, and trumped up an excuse to search.

yotta, if the cops could smell it from outside, they wouldn't need a call.

But ... I do have an ex-cop friend who admitted to me that most 'anonymous phone calls' weren't phone calls at all, just cops acting on their own suspicions

To teach you boys a lesson, Officer Rabbit and I are gonna stand here and watch you boys smoke the whole bag.

Yeah, but the po-lice get to confiscate the house. You know how it goes....

1. Smell pot
2. Bust homeowner/landlord
3. Profit!

"Yup, they got gold plated cruisers down at the po-lice station now."

But like everything in a fuedal society, your rights are relative to your income. This guy was just a poor stoner, ergo, the above Amendment is rendered invalid in this particular case.

Won't be much longer now until the poor are forced into slavelabor by the wealthy. Let's just hope it never gets to the point where their only options are to work or die.

I'm thinking more along the lines of "Work as total slavelabor in our hazardous plants without any benefits and pay or else you will be executed as a traitor to your country". You know, Big Brother stuff.

2003-11-03 04:19:40 PM
oooooooo--ooh

I thought you meant today's 'work so that you can get ahold of a bunch of little green pieces of paper without which you will be unable to procure food shelter or anything else' situation.

my bad.

2003-11-03 04:20:55 PM
I suspect that the original headline should read '1/4-ton of pot' That's the only way to explain 500 lbs of pot being anything near a ton.

2003-11-03 04:34:56 PM
Lesson learned... If you choose to pursue happiness in a way that contradicts capitalism or fascism, you can expect police protection to become police oppression.

I wonder how many ex-conservatives cry themselves to sleep every night because their son is getting raped every day behind the bars of a prison that they once thought was the answer to the 'evil pot-smokers'. The fact is that now in addition to supplying drugs to the inner-city and urban poor, the police are conducting reverse-stings that involve harvesting cash from the community. Judges will now offer recently-convicted inner-city drug society martyrs the choice of prison or the military. Nice recruitment drive. These are all facts that you can look up if you have the time and inclination and haven't yet been blinded by hatred, arrogance, ignorance or the shame of your secret perversions (read: radical right-wing nutjob).

Several of the USA's Founding Fathers smoked marijuana and had mastered its cultivation to the point where they could produce seedless bud. I guess all their memory is good for now is adorning money.

There are a lot of people in Tucson who have 500 pounds of pot in their houses, Oh to be back home!

confiscating large amounts of pot makes baby Jesus cry.

only users lose drugs.

birth, school, work, death.

So the illegalization of pot leads to people NOT reporting attempted murders?

Another argument for re-legalization.

Kinda like how no one ever tracks down serial killers when their victims are prostitutes.

2003-11-04 02:43:12 PM
Hard situation to be in. On one hand your sitting on 250Kilos of pot; on the other someone is shooting at you and even 10 years in prison is better than being dead. Who else are you going to call? The local outlaw motorcycle club?
