If you're surprised about Memphis making the playoffs, then I can only assume that you haven't paid any attention at all for the past couple of years. They're one of 4 teams that wouldn't surprise me if they went to the Finals out of the West.

I still don't really see the Clippers winning this series, but that was rather amazing last night.

In other words, Memphis was Big John Studd, delivering a beatdown to the Clippers' Hulk Hogan, until Hogan starts going into an epileptic fit and came back to save the day. That was old hat 25 years ago, but Stern's recycling that storyline now.

Cena and Leslar would have been more appropriate.

It is clear you didnt watch the game.

I fell asleep at the end of the 3rd and was shocked when I saw the score this morning. I thought it was a mistake.

Now that the path is clear for the Heat to return to The FinalsTM, I'm hoping the Clippers can pull off at least one upset.

/yeah, Rondo, that was a "stumble"
//next time, just piledrive the ref and erase all doubts

I don't know why I would be surprised at either one of those teams making the playoffs.

If you look at the replay his foot got tripped up with the refs foot which made him stumble forward but he was pissed off and didn't make an effort to avoid the chest bump.

Even though he's a repeat offender the NBA won't suspend him IMO. They want a Boston-Miami showdown.

I really wished I stuck around to watch that game last night. While channel-surfing I saw the 27 point deficit and kept right on surfing.

Great win for the Clips, but I can't seem them winning the series with Butler breaking his hand. Tony Allen gamble on Chris Paul was a wtf moment at the end of the game. Tony is a great defender, but wow was that a silly move.

Came here to say this. I wanted to see the Clippers do well this post season, as Caron Butler was my favorite Mav other than Dirk. Poor guy can't seem to catch a break.

2012-04-30 12:23:05 PM
Goddamn I thought that was a joke when I first read it. I still done see the clippers winning the series unless CP3 has 3 more rediculous games.

Go Grizz!

You have basically just summed up Tony Allen's entire career.

When he isn't blowing out his knee on an after-the-whistle dunk attempt or committing an idiotic reach-in foul, he's pretty good.

If you shift a bunch of losses into a third column, everyone's got a great record.

I don't think an NBA game I've seen has achieved such a "shiat's on fire, yo" feel quite like last night's comeback (excluding the Ron Artest Interactive Fan Experience). I feel like the refs let LA get pretty physical without calling anything, but Memphis couldn't have done less to help themselves out.

mc_madness: HOLY MOTHER OF FARK the NBA is watered down cow shiat.

Totally, the western conference is so watered down, and there was absolutely no talent on the floor last night. I mean the NBA is so watered down that 2 vs 7 seed is competitive in the west as well, what a joke! Now hockey, that isn't watered down at all, despite having the same amount of teams, same number of playoff teams, more players, and a smaller pool of talent.

mc_madness: HOLY MOTHER OF FARK the NBA is watered down cow shiat.

Agreed, not like when the '02 Celtics (Paul Pierce, Antoine Walker, Kenny Anderson, Erick Strickland, Tony Battie, Eric Williams, Vitaly Potapenko, and a rookie Joe Johnson) won 49 games and made it to the Conference Finals. Not like when the Chicago Bulls won six titles in the nineties (and won 72 games in a year that two additional franchises were added into a league whose level of talent was already declining from the late eighties and early nineties). Not like when the Lakers went to the Finals eight times during the eighties, and the Western Conference was so bad that when the second-seeded Rockets beat the Lakers in the Conference Finals, it was considered a world-shatteringly gigantic upset. Or were you talking about the seventies is being that magical period that wasn't "watered down cow shiat", when the NBA had to outright split talent with the ABA? Or are you talking about the fifties and sixties, where any discussion immediately transforms into "Wilt Chamberlain dunking on 6'3 white guys"? Or are you talking about today's game, where the international popularity of the game has resulted in enough talent to actually justify having thirty NBA franchises, the NBA has only had one repeat champion since '03, the United States will probably field the best Olympic Basketball team of all-time at the London Olympics, and only one team won less than twenty games in a lockout-shortened season, indicating that parity is actually on the rise? Is that the period you're talking about as "watered down cow shiat"?

Fair enough. My point about the level of talent at the top of the league still stands.

I think "of all time" might be an exaggeration, but yeah, the team is pretty damn good. And every other country pretty much has their best team of all time every time the Olympics come around (Maybe Argentina in '04 hasn't improved and Spain will be missing Rubio this time).

Mike_LowELL: Fair enough. My point about the level of talent at the top of the league still stands.

Agree, there's tons of talent. People are pining for a half-remembered era and they forget all the teams that were totally hopeless when the Bulls were winning 65 games a year.

Without Howard and Aldridge the US Olympic frontcourt is pretty soft. When Chandler's out, you've probably got Love or Bosh playing the 5. That's great offensively but neither of those guys can defend the Gasols. It's a very talented collection of players, but not the best constructed team.

These are the same people that still think the Lakers fleeced Memphis when they traded a top 3 future C talent for a hybrid F/C with a lower ceiling that was already an all star.

DamnYankees: I still don't really see the Clippers winning this series, but that was rather amazing last night.

Well, with Butler hurt(who was quietly the Clippers most consistent starter), it's going to be hard, but they do have quality depth. Nick Young is a big guard and they can run 3 guards, or they can bring Reggie Evans in to rebound every goddamned ball and hope the guards learn to hit shots not in the 4th quarter(and Blake remembers how to drive the paint). Memphis is a big team, though, so 3 guards either kills you or lets you outrun them. Big gamble.

Anyways, Clippers curse remains. Considering where they were sitting before Chauncey went down, it's safe to assume they'd be in much better position to really make a run at the finals with Chauncey and Butler healthy. That said, if they can get past this round and SA next round, they'll match up very well against whoever comes from the other end of the bracket given their performances this year against LAL/DEN/DAL/OKC. Problem is they struggled hard against SAS and UTA

You are my favorite.

I think the Mavs can actually defeat the Thunder. They lost game 1, but they showed up in form. Durant is amazing, best player in the series but I think a lot of that last shot was luck getting it over Marion like that.

A tech for that nonsense?

As for beating the Thunder I totally agree, we match up well with them and I think the Mavs have the mental edge over them. I think it goes to a game 7. What the Spurs used to be and still kind of are to the Mavs, is what the Mavs are to the up and coming Thunder. Hell, they even have a bootleg Nowitzki and Nash (Durant and Westbrook).

The NBA is stronger than it has ever been. Yes, none of these teams could beat the 86 Celtics, but top to bottom there is more talent in the league than ever.

I dunno if I want to threadjack or just stop coming to Fark if they're going to require a Farkback every time for an NBA thread.

Also, Ewing Theory. (Even weirder since Ewing is now a Magic coach...but I suppose he was mostly there to coach Howard...so it makes perfect sense that Howard would be the new Ewing).

LeBron is killing it, so of course D-Wade takes the ball and a terrible final shot and never puts it in Bron's hands. This needs to be mentioned more - Wade does this a LOT.

I still don't understand the deal with the wrestling threads, we have playoffs in the NBA and NHL and baseball started up and there are actually people that are following the WWE closely.

Oh and LeBron is murking the Knicks right now but NY is still keeping it close. NY has the chance to steal one here tonight.

I haven't seen them play much but I thought they were a tough squad when they played the Celtics. I really think David West had to be the biggest bust of the short season. I pull for the Pacers and was hoping for big thing this post season.

Still a lot of time though.

If they don't win the title, Bosh is definitely gone. If they can't even get to the Finals, Pat Riley should seriously considering dumping Wade and going after D-Will. Dwyane Wade for Marc Gasol and a sack of magic beans, you'd think about it, right?

There's a reason the Heat didn't bother trying to overtake the Bulls for the No. 1 seed. The Pacers are much less scary than trying to get through the Celtics and Bulls back-to-back. Now one has to take out the other.
