first? tng ??? hahahaha not a single story was original
not one

every story was at least loosely based on something that had been written years or decades before

No Such Agency: Eh... overproduced nonsense. Too many different aliens, cheap celebrity stunt casting and way too much CGI. The "Avatar" of the Aliens franchise. It'll suck.

Well at least you're giving it a chance. Way to be open minded! However, you may be right. What has Ridley Scott ever done anyway? Mostly shiate.

Seth'n'Spectrum: I'm somewhat amused by how Fassbender and Rapace are known for "high-brow-ish" roles, while they also have the dude from the schlock-fest that is the Walking Dead and the dude from the history-slaying abomination that is the Borgias in it as well.

/watch both shows

Granted I'm only working with what imdb has listed, it doesn't look like there's any actors from The Walking Dead in this movie.

I'll watch on my 10 year old laptop, at the frame rate I get watching youtube I might get a nice long look at a decent frame. Over 2 minutes, hell I might even get 6 frames to look at. Problem solved.

PonceAlyosha: LeroyBourne: Satanic_Hamster: Plant Rights Activist: 1. explore planet cause the pictographs told you to do it

2. Find aliens

3. Aliens find Earth. Attempt to take off towards Earth.

4. Are somehow thwarted by Ripley-esque person.

5. Alien ship crashes back onto planet.

Yeah, the trailer didn't give too much away. nope. not at all.

Yeah, but why...? Makes no sense from them to invade/wipe out a planet they already visited when it was less advanced and easier to kill. Unless the pictograms were meant as a warning by some OTHER aliens NOT to go to that planet. They should have been more clear.

Some of us like the story, i.e. who the fark is the SC and why does he have these things? But then again, most sane people prefer Kill Bill 2 to 1. Much better story.

They're not trying to invade, they're trying to escape. It seems likely they're suffering from a xenomorph infestation and are probably the last survivors rather than an advance party.

You don't know that, you can clearly see a humanoid/xenomorgh running, is that the space cowboy? Who knows, the only thing I know is RS will entertain us nonetheless with what I'm most curious about, the space cowboy.

I never understand people who complain about trailers giving away the plot.

Avengers won't be so much of a suspense movie as a themed action movie. You know who's going to win, and who's going to survive, etc. A cooky cutter movie with smart banter.

Prometheus promises to primarily a suspense movie that happens to have a lot of action and eye candy, so unlike M. Night Shamalan's movies, this'll be at least re-watchable for that..

Suspense movies, however, even if they are viewable multiple times, there's nothing like that first time, and the more scenes we see with these trailers the more it takes away from that epic first viewing.

Knowing how X happens, and that Y will happen, defeats the very purpose of the suspense movie.

A sample is nice, lets you know it's something you're into. But a full synopsis and review, hell, why don't you just advocate people who chew your food for you too?

This might be the first time I venture to a movie theater since Tron.

People who are already whining about this movie are cracking me up though. Your type decides they hate something, then they go to the movie anyway and sit with their arms crossed angrily thinking what they'd be doing differently if they made it. Then they quickly go online and complain bitterly about how terrible it is to anyone who might listen.

I'm not sure prometheus is a suspense film, certainly not in the vein of Momento or Silence of the Lambs, I'm sure there will be a lot of suspenseful moments that make up the color of the film but once again this is unknowable until it's in the theater. To put definitives on the case: My friend told me the twist in fight club before I saw it even though I'd been obsessing over the movie for months. I still went and saw it in the theater and was blown away then bought the DVD and have probably watched it two dozen times in its entirety-really ought to do that again- being equally impressed each time.

I get that there needs to be good reveals in movies but we've all become such savvy viewers that putting together the plot of something like MI:4 or TDKR is child's play (or food to use your analogy) well within the first act. The promotion machine that every movie is put through now a days makes it impossible for the old style of trailer to stand alone in promoting a film, yeah, I appreciate a good teaser as much as the next guy, but I also don't want to pay to see (or waste the bandwith on) somthing that gets a slanted cut in the trailer and fails to deliver in the 90 min. + format. The best example that comes to mind, and I didn't see it by god, is that kangaroo jack POS from years back. All I'm saying is that if you want a truely unpredictable entertainment experience go watch sports, most movies, and books, and tv shows follow narrative patterns and arcs. Unhappy about that? Then write a few scripts yourself and see how it goes.

Man, after seeing this trailer it is now definitely on my radar for movies to check out this Summer.

2012-04-30 01:34:53 AM
Sigh, I feel a little ruined after seeing this trailer. I had known extremely little about the film other than Prometheus was the title of the spaceship and Ridley Scott was directing. Won't stop me from seeing, but I recall Aliens being fantastic because of what was not revealed for the majority of the film even, much less major plot in a trailer. We've seen some background, the purpose, some organisms, some horrors about the organisms, and the major dilemma. Withhold something.

2012-04-30 01:35:27 AM
Based on the trailer and the Weyland Industries website, it looks like Ridley Scott is taking all of the "Predator vs. Aliens" crap movies and flushing them right down to "non-canon" world. I remember seeing "Alien" when it first came out in theaters, and it scared the shiate out of me. The sequel "Aliens" is still my go-to answer for favorite movie of all time. Prometheus looks to be a worthy addition to the franchise, as long as the Scott and the 20th Century Fox doesn't cave to the MPAA rating Nazis and keeps this out of PG-13-land. Heck, this might be the first movie that I've actually paid to see in theaters since Iron Man 2 (which just barely earned my money).

2012-04-30 01:57:47 AM

fusillade762: this new promo also implies that a PG-13 is out of the question. Doesn't it?

I read an article a couple days ago that said Ridley had given his blessing for the studio to go with whatever rating they felt would make them the most money. The studio said no farking way were they going to mess with Ridley's vision and wouldn't be cutting anything.

Here's a quote from another article....

"The rating board has not opened yet and it will go in to the board soon. This I can tell you and I can tell all the fans, not one frame will be cut. The movie will be what it should be. We will not cut a frame of the film. We will stand behind it 100 percent and if that means it's an R, then so be it, because not an ounce, not a percentage are we going to compromise the film."

I feel your pain on that, it would be neat to come in cold. Then again, we choose to be the tuned-in ones. I drew a pretty good Iron Man for a friend on Draw Something the other day, and she was baffled. "Um, it's a Transformer? Flash?" So I gave her hints. "Big movie this summer? Probably seen lots of commercials for it?"

"I don't watch TV."

"Not even like on TMZ.com?"

"No idea."

She doesn't even know this movie exists but I bet she'll like it a lot when I make her watch it. Being spoiled is the price we pay in 2012 to keep up with stuff.

B.L.Z. Bub: Well, I'm going to be the odd one out here. That trailer hardly had any monsters, and the ones it did have got lost in all the "blink or you'll miss it" crap that these ADD-inspired previews are full of. To me it was just a bunch of quick cut action shots with overly-dramatic titles sprinkled in ("THEY WENT SEARCHING...FOR OUR BEGINNING"). For all I know, the movie could be great, but that trailer does nothing to impress me.

This. It looked like Alien vs Predator, for chrissakes! Too much action and not enough darkness and no paranoia whatsoever. I'll propably go and watch it, but I prefer the original two (maybe three), thankyouverymuch.

/Original Alien bluray edition is a must have!
