Can we add Taking Care of Business?

/ that article list is going to make for a long drive.

2012-04-29 09:58:50 PM
I like long songs like Genesis's "Supper's Ready" and Iron Butterfly's "In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida" for long drives. Engaging enough to listen along to, but rambling enough to easily give your attention to more pressing matters, like someone making an impetous lane change.

Rush, Red Barchetta.

Springsteen, Born to Run.

Gorrilaz, Stylo.

Tom Petty, Runnin Down a Dream.

PainInTheASP: Rush, Red Barchetta.

That. I mean, come the fark on.

that will move you.

Speaking of drives, we found this one today during our Sunday drive.:

My favorite has always been Open Road Song by Eve 6.

2012-04-29 11:18:44 PM
Popping in the decendents 'milo goes to college' always gets me in the mood for a nice long drive.

The album goes by so fast it might as well seem like a song

2012-04-29 11:23:27 PM
Jesus Built My Hotrod by Ministry is, for me, hands down the best driving song.

2012-04-29 11:33:35 PM
On the Road Again - Willie Nelson

I mean c'mon, really?

2012-04-29 11:33:54 PM
Explosions in the Sky's The Only Moment we were Alone is my go-to song when I am driving at night. Very relaxing and sets the mood perfectly. (new window)

2012-04-29 11:35:16 PM
No playlist is complete for me without "Phantom Limb" by The Shins or REM's "Nightswimming".

2012-04-29 11:37:06 PM
I found QotSA's 'Spiders and Vinegaroons' to be a really nice trippy song to listen to while driving across the southwest deserts.

/Actually, most QotSA's songs are great for desert rides.

2012-04-29 11:37:20 PM
What kind of lame drive are these people taking where My Cherie Amour, Harvest Moon, I'll Take You There, et. al. are considered "great" driving songs.

Also, total listfail for missing Radar Love

2012-04-29 11:37:27 PM

nmrsnr: My favorite has always been Open Road Song by Eve 6.

Came here for that, glad to see it covered. "Open road song" is easily the best song on the alblum, "inside out" is probably one of the worst.

Another of my favorites is Cars by Fear Factory.

2012-04-29 11:38:42 PM

Calmamity: Jesus Built My Hotrod by Ministry is, for me, hands down the best driving song.

I don't know if it's the best, but it's sure f&cking better than anything on that list.

Many of those might be reasonable for short to medium length drives, but some of them would put a speed freak long distance driver into a quick coma. Keep it to uptempo country tunes and rock instrumentals (lots of surf music) to keep you going from Austin to LA. "The Race is On" and "K-39" type stuff works well.

Never, ever play the second movement of a symphony while driving, even if it is just around the block.

2012-04-29 11:42:18 PM
Driving to Bon Iver or M83?

Why?

Calmamity: Jesus Built My Hotrod by Ministry is, for me, hands down the best driving song.

Redline Whiteline mix?

2012-04-29 11:45:26 PM
That list sucked. I even like some of the artists on that list, but they picked shiatty songs from them.

And for my drives give me "Full Metal Jackoff" by Jello Biafra & DOA.

2012-04-29 11:45:43 PM
these mostly look terrible

2012-04-29 11:46:20 PM
Personally, I like playing Seger's Live Bullet on a lot of drives. Nutbush City Limits, Turn The Page, and Get Out of Denver seem particularly appropriate

2012-04-29 11:48:58 PM
Hipsters don't drive.

2012-04-29 11:49:05 PM
Those are some shiatty driving songs.

You know what's a great driving song? Heart Full of Black.

But anything with that kind of beat is great for driving. Crackerman has it too.

2012-04-29 11:51:09 PM
I'm likely to get some hate for some of these but here goes.

Metallica's "Wherever I May Roam"

AC/DC's "Highway to Hell"

Whitesnake's "Here I go again"

Bob Seger's or Metallica's version of "Turn the page"

2012-04-29 11:53:32 PM
Riders of the storm - Doors,,

/That is all.

2012-04-29 11:54:17 PM
QotSA - All of their songs

Foo FIghters -Walk

Girlschool - Cmon Lets Go

PainInTheASP: Rush, Red Barchetta.

Gorrilaz, Stylo.

Those.

The Headless Horseman's Headless Horse: Also, "Nightcall".

and THIS.

2012-04-29 11:55:05 PM
List fails without "Green Onions" by Booker T. and the MGs.

2012-04-29 11:55:33 PM
not one song is on my 5,000 song iPod-
anyways
Close to the Edge
Red Barchetta
Riding on the wind-bloodstone
everybody wants to rule the world
there are others but we are getting tired of these lame fed music lists

2012-04-29 11:57:49 PM
I'm watching spinal tap now
heavy duty rock and roll

2012-04-29 11:58:06 PM
Oh and Rick James - Mary Jane.

Don't know why but it makes a good cruising around the neighborhood song.

2012-04-29 11:59:10 PM
Anything by Tom Petty, but especially "Won't back down".

2012-04-29 11:59:43 PM

Tyrosine: What kind of lame drive are these people taking where My Cherie Amour, Harvest Moon, I'll Take You There, et. al. are considered "great" driving songs.

That.

/ also, anyone who puts on Proclaimers is getting pushed out while doing no less than 70mph.

2012-04-29 11:59:49 PM
Blue Peter - Radio Silence

Late Night Alumni - Empty Streets

OceanLab - Miracle

Kaskade - 4AM

/why yes, I do enjoy trance.. why do you ask?

2012-04-30 12:02:42 AM
My road trips have lots of weird music, but there's always two tracks on any road trip playlist:

Ween - Stroker Ace
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Road Trippin

2012-04-30 12:03:37 AM
I can't drive 55
Hot rod Lincoln

2012-04-30 12:06:41 AM

ununcle: Riders of the storm - Doors,,

/That is all.

The whole L.A. Woman album is my default driving at night music. It is appropriate for that occasion nearly 100% of the time--city, highway, country roads, or subdivisions.

For driving home at the END of the night, it's always Joni Mitchell's Blue. When you're partied out and just want to get to bed, but you have a bit of a drive, it works every time.

2012-04-30 12:07:02 AM
Whenever I'm driving on L.A. freeways and spot a CHP motorcycle, I'll toss a CD which has the CHiPs TV show theme as its first track into the CD player. It's like being in the show.

The Speed Racer TV theme is also a fun track for starting-out a road trip .. especially if you can rev the engine at the appropriate moments.

2012-04-30 12:07:49 AM
All these songs also fit into the "songs to rob a conveinence store to" category

2012-04-30 12:08:02 AM
Since Radar Love and Red Barchetta have been covered

Rearviewmirror- Pearl Jam

Cliffs of Dover - Eric Johnson

East Bound and Down - Jerry Reed

How Soon is Now and In the Air Tonight are great mood music for late night drives.
