Closer cam, higher def, more babies, sound and no ads. Cornell does not mess around when it comes to birds.

They're so cute! The momma hawk has a needle-sharp beak and a look that says, "touch my babies and I'll keel you!"

2012-04-29 04:16:30 PM
Man, mama hawk means business. Also, is that a dead mouse in the nest?

Mama hawk is checkin' out the guy in the minivan...

Mama Hawk just watched a man getting out of the van with a baby carrier. I wonder what she was thinking.

Yeah, I think so.

after seeing the footage, i don't want to disturb the nest, but......
happily we are not over-reacting towards the hawks as we usually do.

Make sure you poke them with a stick if possible. I hear Hawk's like that.

That one chick is doing a few all-important leg stretches.

Hawk nests are really spartan. There's not much in the way of padding.

2012-04-29 04:35:42 PM
That's Hawk Dad, I believe. And it looks like he's caught an afternoon snack

She brought back another animal. I'm not too familiar with the eating habits of raptors. Do they just spend the whole day collecting a hoard of food?

I wonder why they're white as hatchlings. You'd think it would make them easier to spot.

2012-04-29 04:38:20 PM
There's something moving on the right side of the nest! Just to the right of the new mouse... or is it just something blowing around?

2012-04-29 04:39:21 PM
Mama's home!

I think the moving thing is a feather

Love the bottom-half of the chipmunk lying feet up in the foreground! That'll teach Chip n' Dale to snoop around!

I was gonna say, yeah, maybe all week...because I saw Cornell's last week, I suppose.

Go out into range of the camera and wave at us.

I see a blonde girl in a brown jacket. Is that you?

2012-04-29 04:44:45 PM
Looks like some (human) chick is waving to her friends watching the feed.

Go yell at that chick to get naked. I hear women like that.

/Bad advice day it seems.

2012-04-29 04:45:21 PM
There's a lady in a brown jacket on the ground waving at us...or the hawk. Not sure.

2012-04-29 04:45:43 PM
On second thought, I think that's the dad again. The mom doesn't have a white face

2012-04-29 04:47:03 PM
I like how they show a commercial featuring a cute little chipmunk. Seems to be in poor taste considering the hawkling's dinner.

2012-04-29 04:47:38 PM
Maybe the chicks are white so the parents don't mistake them for food?

2012-04-29 04:53:31 PM
In my mind the chicks are white for the same reason P-51 Mustangs were polished aluminum: it's the camouflage equivalent of "come at me bro."

2012-04-29 04:55:17 PM
I think it's a headless chipmunk.

But I'm not really sure what that grayish blob near the baby hawks is. It looks semi-alive.

It's a mouse, I think. Caught less than an hour ago. I think the fur is ruffling in the wind.

I'm not sure why only the chick on the right is getting fed. More aggressive? More hungry?

From what I have seen all animals feed that way, one at a time. Probably a survival method because it guarantees that at least one is getting the most food available. The world doesn't work in "fair" terms like us humans like to think.

Mmmmm viscera, my favorite!

2012-04-29 05:05:27 PM
Every now and again a hatchling refuses a scrap (too busy eating the last one... too big) and you can see Mommy Bird go "Oh, well." *NOM*

2012-04-29 05:06:20 PM
You can clearly see that one chick is smaller than the other two. I do not think that that one will survive much longer.
