The cover must have cracked and fallen in. Manholes are round for a reason..

After watching the second video, the suv doesn't seem to drive a tire over the centre of the cover but the side causing it to flip up, catch on the underside of the suv, and result in the flippage. Crazy shiat.

Watching the second video, it looks like there is a metal grate on top of the manhole that gets caught up in the undercarriage.

Not surprising, there was a video here a few months back in China of some guy crouching down on a man-hole to have someone else light the gasses. Dude flew up like 50ft iirc.

It looks to me like there was some kind of underground explosion. Hitting an exposed manhole or grate doesn't seem like it could flip a vehicle like that.

/manhole ... heheh

wrong.

There was some sort of metal grid welded to a cylindrical insert. The vehicle drove over an edge of the grid, causing the rear part to tilt up, catching the undercarriage of the vehicle. The insert was still partially int he manhole, jamming the vehicle to a violent stop, and levering it up into the air.

Nothing magical, no explosions, just crappy workmanship on the makeshift manhole cover and a poor decision to drive over it.

This is from a weekly prime-time Russian TV show.

Past episodes included "Wire rope across dirt bike trail", "Polonium tea time", and the timeless classic "live grenade in lunch box".

What kind of genius was driving the second vehicle? Oh, look, that car was taken out by a manhole cover. I don't know why, but I think I'll drive slowly over the open hole and park right over it. Nothing could possibly happen to me.

What I saw as well. I'm guessing it was either a really heavy-duty piece of expanded metal or a cast-iron grate laid over a manhole with a missing cover. The left front wheel pops the grate up, it hangs on the bottom of the car and the car kinda pole-vaults over the grate.

Not as spectacular as the giant manhole cover that shoots into the air in Minnesota, but pretty good.

Film stunt. Notice the protective stuff on the right side and two camera angles.

Not sue. Something seems odd about that flip.

A few years ago, I was driving to work one morning and I drove over a manhole cover - it flipped up and ripped my oil pan open. Thankfully I was compensated for that one.

This last year I casually stepped on a manhole cover while crossing a street and fell right-the-fark in.
That could have ended very badly. Scraped my legs up really bad, but I caught my fall with my chest and arms right on the edge. I cringe just thinking about it.

/ In other news, fiddle-faddle was attacked by a roving gang of manhole covers today...

Could have been worse. Those "keep left" signs are pretty vicious.

Did you say something must have bounced up under the undercarriage ?
