4. Goldman Sachs
5. Walmart

yup, pretty much spot on. when I think of cartoonish James Bond supervillians...Monsanto and Goldman-Sachs come to mind.

Apple isn't in the same class as monsanto. read up on those f*ckers - they're pure evil.

Now, if you wanted to expand the list out to top TEN list of evil companies, then you could get Microsoft and Apple in there, along with a couple of oil companies.

At last, we have something we can agree with. While I'm not an Apple fan, I'm OK with their products overall.

I just got the iPad to work with my new phone, a droid Razr. the mobile hot spot didn't want to talk to he iPad at first and the iPad was choosing not to see the wifi hotspot...eventualy I slapped 'em both around and now they're playing nice with one another.

I'm loving this new phone. i'm still on the verizon unlimited data plan, so I can slurp down a reasonable amount of data without getting any crap from verizon. i'm pondering writing a few phone apps just to see if I can do it, but i'm lacking inspiration right now.

but I digress....Monsanto are f*cking evil pricks. when I first heard about 'em I figured 'meh, probably just typical eco-nut exaggeration'. then I dug into their story a bit and found out that the eco-nuts actually understated the levels of evil bastardness to be found in Monsanto's quarterly reports. they're not just 'evil', they're 'OMG ANTICHRIST' levels of dickishness.

i'm something of an oddity - I've got an iPad, a linux laptop and a MS fueled gamer desktop PC. plus my new droid phone of course. i'll use any OS if it gets the job done. in fact, I rather enjoy finding ways to frankenstein bits of technology together in order to accomplish a task...or just to see what they can do.

Best Buy/Comcast/Netflix et. al that show up every year on Consumerist's "Worst Evah" list really are reactionary nerd-rage more than anything else. Monopolize the seed industry? International Bribery scandals? Who cares when Best Buy's online price is $3 less than its in-store price??

And at the rate they're going, they'll join Circuit Shiatty and CompUSSR soon enough. I can't wait to watch and then see if there's anything worth buying at the liquidation. Probably not.

Not odd at all, I don't know what you use the iPad for but I do everything on my laptop (linux) and only have the MS Box for games, android phone of course.

I deem myself a sense-ster

Halliburton?

2012-04-29 04:10:16 PM
Hmmm.... List is OK as far as it goes. Monsanto probably is the worst company for this list.

But no oil companies?

No Bank of America or Wells Fargo?

No Koch Industries?

You could easily swap Big Tobacco for the above.

2012-04-29 04:25:25 PM
Stupid list is stupid.

1. Monsanto - a pioneer in GMO whose practices in IP protection have been upheld by the courts and overblown by a few select organizations (I actually oppose many of the things they do, but clearly the problem is the protectionist IP laws)
2. Chesapeake may be run by a selfish jerk, but they aren't screwing the share holders. They have beaten the market and their segment considerably over the last 10 years
3. Cigarette companies sell a product that kills their customers, they probably deserve to be here. Their customers know this though, is ripping off idiots really an issue?
4. GS deals with sophisticated customers who realize there is a counter party to their transactions. I fail to see the issue, unless the rantings of someone who failed to advance in the organization are the basis for your complaint
5. Wal-mart - how cliche.

But then, what will be left in consumer electronics retail? Radio Shack and Fry's and GameStop are all I can think of, plus brand specific stores like those from Apple and Microsoft. Fry's is the only one with a selection remotely similar to Best Buy, but they've been almost excruciatingly conservative with their expansion.

Agreed, that should make at least the top 10, or if they're allowing entire industry sectors, video game companies exploit their employees like few others, and they take it because they WANT to work in video games.

I link to this documentary whenever Monsanto comes up in a forum. It will open your eyes as to what those vile piles of shiat are up to.

As for the list, Exxon or BP should have been on that list instead of Chesapeake Energy. I'm not saying they aren't corrupt, but they're a regional company and to be truly evil, you have to be known world wide. Any of he other companies involved in our last recession should be on there as well. Frontline did a great piece on it.

He bought his sandblaster at Wal-Mart, so when he went to fire it up it wouldn't start.

He still looks like that today.

cman: No Apple? This list is bullshiat

Well, you can quite easily and happily make your way through life without using an apple product. Making it without using apple or microsoft's a little harder.

But you'd be damn lucky to go a week without eating something that started off as a seed sold by Monsanto. A seed that was patented and therefore illegal for the farmer to grow his own seed from. They're trying to create seeds that grow into sterile plants so that people have no choice but to buy from them every year.

Hell, they've tried to patent pig breeding. Any multinational company that thinks it can claim ownership of the process of farking is automatically granted inclusion into the mad scientist's club.

2012-04-29 07:13:57 PM

You're the jerk... jerk: GS deals with sophisticated customers who realize there is a counter party to their transactions. I fail to see the issue, unless the rantings of someone who failed to advance in the organization are the basis for your complaint

I like how you're attempting to defend all of these companies, rather than just picking one or two. I'm too tired to get into it about the others, and Chesapeake probably should not be on that list...yet. The CEO's actions and behavior could indicate deeper problems with the accounting and ethics of Chesapeake overall, but like you said, so far nothing is really amiss.

But GS, really? Go read about their role in Greece's financial affairs. That alone earns them a place on the list.

2012-04-29 07:45:39 PM
Massey Energy should be on there too. They let miners burn to death in easily preventable accidents to save pennies.

2012-04-29 07:55:27 PM
The United Way.

F**k those asshats.

/Seriously

2012-04-29 08:12:01 PM
Monsanto would extinct the human race if it meant higher earnings next quarter.

/And they probably will one of these days.
