Jensaarai: Wrong way Bourdais.

I think he was faster backwards.

@JennaFryer
So bizarre to me #NASCAR fans would kill right now for this, uh, contact. #IndyCar fans are pulling their hair out.

Would be nice to see Sato continue on this tear

Yep, but this time without the last-lap turn by RHR.

2012-04-29 12:43:01 PM
Whoa Sato!

2012-04-29 12:46:19 PM

Jensaarai: Whoa Sato!

That was one hell of a pass he (tried) to attempt there

Say, EJ Viso has been fairly anonymous so far this race. Just thought I'd share.

Yeah, I think the only major action they've shown him involved in was a clean pass of TK. He no longer makes races official.

Now we have Katherine Legge for that.

Power and RHR into the pits for what figures to be their last stop of the day.

/If Power can cover the field like this and still be conservative, does the rest of the grid have a prayer for the remainder of the season?

Almost like the threat of rain for nearly every NASCAR race this year so far?

Keep in mind his only oval victory was the lottery victory he was handed at Texas last year. He's yet to really put a whole oval race together.

His best chance to snag the championship is this season, though. He's doing better on those ovals and there are fewer of them than at any time in recent history. Wheldon's death has the schedule currently imbalanced. With Franchitti struggling and Hondas slightly off, it's certainly Power's to lose.

I should have specified just roadies, but yeah, this is Power's best chance at an overall championship. The turbo adjustment Honda received seems to have equalized the power between Honda and Chevy though, even if the consumption pendulum is still swinging sharply in the direction of Chevy.

/Who actually is developing the Chevy engine again? Is it Judd?

SC! Looking at racecontrol.indycar.com, looks like Newgarden got it all wrong near the pit exit.

It was kinda nice to see the worlds slowest flying start in the Grand Am race though..

So, what's with the caution? I might know if the dude hadn't been switching to motocross and ALMS.

2012-04-29 01:12:30 PM
Hmm. Restart with about 10 to go.

Will this be a clusterfark?

WTF Dixon? It's a yellow and you're on reds, so you don't change tires?

2012-04-29 01:12:54 PM
Rubinho's engineer needs to figure out how to get him to the end of a race without that extra splash-and-go.

If you only have blacks left (hypothetical), wouldn't you stay on your reds?

Newgarden went off line and clipped the tire barrier, making a bit of a mess. Elsewhere, Carpenter got spun by Anna Beatrice.

marbles?

Raddamant: marbles?

Little balls of rubber that build up on the track. They can really fark with your traction.

That was predictable.

Half the field just got Satowned. Ahahahaha!

Gee, who didn't see that happening?

I think Mike Conway should be the 'new official race' driver. Seems like he is involved a lot this season.

2012-04-29 01:23:48 PM
Oh FFS. Red flag this before it gets stupid.

Also, that was an awesome restart

They have no more commercial breaks -- they must need to make one

Conway, might want to walk out of the track with a friend or 17 today, just saying...

It was a pretty atrocious restart, honestly, but as someone (Jensaarai or Dan?) upthread said, that first chicane will cost this joint its race.

I'm sorry, I didn't follow much of the offseason, but did the drivers not come together to demand safer races this season after Wheldon's death? I remember F1's drivers demanding more safety and better conditions for drivers after Senna's death. But this first corner seems like something the IndyCar drivers should be saying "No" to after what happened last year.

The new cars are safer.

The first corner is really slow, so while it takes out cars, the danger to the drivers is pretty low.

Hell, that KitKat turn seems safer than the actual course

It's low-speed and the new car is objectively much safer. If they object to that there's not much they wouldn't object to.

No, this is bad only for the fans. If they could somehow make it through without wrecking it would be exciting for everybody, but since drivers never, ever back down it turns into tedium.

Most fear centered on ovals.

Well, it was awesome for Sato.

WTF Carpenter? Been hittin' the Vodak?

Thanks for the answers -- figured the lack of speed there may be an issue. Still wondering what kind of overall power or say they'll have in IndyCar in the future since it seemed to be pretty minimal last year.

Unless Will Power pulls a Hildebrand this is over.
