TheManofPA: I think for Extreme Rules just to rub it in against you, Vince should have DB lose in 30 seconds (twice), Cena goes over big and Punk gets absolutely buried as somehow Batista becomes champ.

Then he'll introduce a Greg Williams character and make Saints jokes all night. That'll teach you to snark against him.

And THEN Derek Jeter gets busted for 'roids.

IAmRight: tarkus1980: Ehn. The Bulls need at least *some* easy baskets in the playoffs. Now everything's going to be an awful struggle, and it'll wear them down.

Every time I've seen them, their offense looked better without Rose. Maybe it's just a matchup thing with the Heat or the Heat let their guard down or something, but they just f*cking tear it up with Rose off the court.

The heat spend so much time worrying about Rose that they don't seem to have an answer for anyone else. I don't know if Spoelstra lets that happen when Rose isn't even a consideration.

//Watching JLIII blow by LeBron was one of my favorite highlights this year.

IAmRight: FreakinB: I do have some complaints about the refs in the Knicks-Heat game, but no amount of calls is going to make that kind of difference.

Yup, it's one of those things where I'd kind of feel bad for the Knicks having those go against them (although I maintain that at least two that were questionable on LeBron were such stupid plays by the Knicks that they deserved the calls)...but it really didn't matter what happened in that game, ref-wise. Knicks were out of their minds, starting with Amare's damn near trying to get kicked out in the first quarter just with never ending sh*t-talk with Haslem.

Lots of questionable calls. I thought the flagrant on Chandler and the technical on 'Melo for giving the ball back to the ref were particularly ridiculous. But like I said, the Heat were running away with that game either way.

TheManofPA: /no one is overcoming a 3 to 1 FT differential

The Knicks played atrocious, sloppy, stupid basketball. Most of those fouls were legit. The flagrant was a silly overexaggeration, but it was a stupid, stupid, stupid play to even execute in the first place. Who has their center (with three fouls on him) set an off-ball screen IN THE BACK COURT into someone's back? How is that in any way a good idea?

They tear it up until they don't (that loss to the Wizards in the last couple of weeks was sickening). The second unit tore it up against a lot of teams last year, too.

I think the biggest overall thing for me with Rose being out is that the margin of error is a lot thinner now. Yes, the team is in much much better shape this year than they would have been last year without him (the question of "who else can provide 4th quarter offense for the team" was shown pretty much moot during the regular season), but I feel like there's now way too much dependence on a bunch of second and third bananas for scoring. When Korver gets ice cold, and Hamilton's legs aren't there, and Boozer's shot isn't falling, and a bunch of other things go wrong, where will the points come from?

I hope I'm wrong, but I fear that I'm right. Teams need that one fall-back guy who can crap out offense even when the rest of the team can't do anything right. People remember the title-winning 90s Bulls teams as great offensive teams, but they won a crapload of games where the rest of team shot horrendously but they still won because (a) Jordan shot poorly but still got to the rim repeatedly, (b) Pippen shot 4-13 but still got a triple double, and (c) either Grant or Rodman pulled down 7 offensive rebounds. I don't see guys like that on this team.

When does the #1 overall seed become a team of plucky underdogs? Against the Celtics? Only against the Heat?

FreakinB: Lots of questionable calls

I remember them following a couple of questionable ones with some questionable ones right back...but we all know that the Knicks played atrocious basketball that entire game. Overdribbling, being aggressive on things like blocking shots after fouls were called, then talking sh*t...they just looked clueless.

They were biting on pump-fakes with TWO DEFENDERS getting in the air out at the 3-point line. Just stupid, stupid play.

bulldg4life: Yes, the Bulls can win regular season games without Rose in the lineup. However, the argument that they are just as good or better with Rose out is just not a realistic comment. I mean, unless of course the Bulls are ready to just trade him in the offseason and just use their totally superior team next year with Boozer and John Lucas leading the way.

From what I've seen on other boards, it's only Lebron fans making this claim. I guess they're still mad about Rose winning MVP.

Well, Rose DID win it because everyone was mad at LeBron, but that's beside the point.

I don't think they're a better team without Rose. Just seems like every time I see them without him, they go the f*ck off. Might be because Miami softens up, thinking they don't have to play as hard or something.

Rose has had FIVE prior injuries this season and missed ~27 games, after missing only 3 games the prior years combined. Short season means less recovery time and more stress on the body. Rose was not 100%, not even close...yet was playing at his normal balls-to-the-wall level. His balance wasn't there, and hasn't been for some time. Last I checked, balance is pretty key in sticking a landing.

This has everything to do with the shortened season.

2012-04-28 10:52:45 PM

italie: tarkus1980: I loves me some Thibs, but Popovich would never ever have Rose out in that moment.

I've been trying really hard not to pin this one on Thibs. While Rose probably shouldn't have been out there, the injury probably would have happened in the near future anyway. Rose was playing on so many broken parts that his balance was pretty jacked up. You could see it the last few games he played. I remember the first shot he took coming back from the groin thing, air ball by a mile. Painfully obvious he wasn't ready to be out there.

The more I think about it, the more I believe that this was inevitable.

God, I wish I could disagree.

Tuesday is going to be a fascinating game to watch. Not that the 76ers can win the series (probably) but how much will a Noah-led team dominate?

Yeah, he basically said they still have a chance to make the Finals. Which, if they make the ECF, and like I said, for some reason or another, they play well against the Heat without Rose...well yeah, they could make the Finals. It's not unfathomable.

/I think they'll lose to the Celtics, but it's not like their postseason is done.

Rose had one injury or another all season and never had time to heal. A lot of the injuries were leg/foot related meaning overcompensating.

I understand how an acl injury occurs and realize it can be a freak thing, but this season felt like it was building toward this

I meant time between games but if you want to take that route, no, it doesn't. Missing 27 games this season would be the equivalent of missing ~15 any other season. They could have kept him off the court for a longer period of time with less impact on the team in any other season.

This is the problem with the idiot coaches in the NBA and how they manage minutes.

Guy has 4 fouls to start the fourth quarter in a tie game? Better keep him on the bench until there's 5 minutes left.

Up 16 with 2 minutes to go? Yeah, let's keep our superstar out there.
