SharkTrager: cryinoutloud: 2wolves:
And the FBI's microphones picking up the nuts talking about spreading the accelerant. Also that Mr. Koresh had used fire on his own building in the past.

Oh yeah, I remember that! That was creepy.

Think about the FBI story for a minute.

Their claim is they heard the Davidians were prepping to burn the place down and then their response was to punch holes in the building and spray in flammable tear gas.

Does that really make any sense at all?

"flammable tear gas"

You people can be spotted from farking orbit. So farked in the head that you can't even picture a situation without completely loading the mental image to support what you already think.

Uhh... The Waco event happened in the early 90's. Bush took office in 2000. Nice troll attempt, though ;)

Yes, but Janet Reno was the one who ordered the raid... now who did she serve under?

Anyone?

This book was written by the Chief of Psychiatry at Texas Childrens' Hospital. It is about how children process trauma. He includes a chapter on the children who were released from the BD compound before it went full retard. He worked with the children while the siege was ongoing. They all drew pictures of the compound engulfed in flames, before it was. They talked about how it would end. In fire. They knew everyone else inside would die in the fire. When it happened that way, not one of them was surprised.

The fire was planned, and was Koresh's final fark you to the FBI.

And look. It worked.

The Branch Davidians weren't under investigation for child abuse. They were under investigation for collecting weapons and preparing to be attacked by the government.

Maybe he should have shared that info with the FBI before they lit the compound on fire.

J. Frank Parnell:

Maybe you didn't know it was later proven they used incendiary grenades which caused the blaze that killed everyone? Or are you saying it's a troll because you don't like to hear truths that interfere with your world view?

So what? Proof doesn't mean anything, and neither does 'truth'.

But then, they weren't goodnicewhite "Christians", so who cares, amirite?

Absolutely. What stuns me is that you think anyone cares.

But the tens of millions of deaths caused by Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot were just peachy by your book because they were atheists, right?

They were not atheists, nor did they kill people because of atheism. None of them screamed "FOR DARWIN!!" or proclaimed their countries "a nation of atheism". Why do you people always try this tired bullshiat?

That has to be one of the more reasonable answers I've seen to that question.

To The Escape Zeppelin!: "She said no one from the church came to her and tried to comfort or counsel with her. She said nobody from the church said anything to her after the abuse was revealed."

What's her point? Would she have been ok with it if they'd tried to comfort her? If her story is true then they're terrible people she shouldn't be talking to anyway.

I think the point here is that they pretty much shunned her for what happened. It's slut-shaming on a mild level--by not acknowledging that the abuse hurt her, it's essentially saying her father was just tempted by sex, not that he committed abuse of authority or that the abuse itself had anything to do with it, which, from what I've read, means they had it backwards; Daddy probably wasn't a pedobear, he just was turned on by power.

Also, surviving a traumatic event and then having no support system afterwards is a cocktail for pure psychological disaster.

Yes, yes it is. And you know what? most people are okay with that. It causes the people that we don't want to support to break, and when they break their subsequent behavior justifies the fact that we didn't want to help them.

Wackos from Waco, who'd of thunk. There's something "special" in that portion of the country.

Didn't the Mormon cult where the leader raped little girls exist in that area?

The most recent example did. But historically, Missouri, Nevada and Utah are the Mormon hotbeds, so to speak.

I grew up in Waco and couldn't wait to get as far away as possible because of the rampant fundamentalism (and hypocrisy) that drives the local culture. I couldn't finish watching the video because it made me sick to my stomach . . .

Wrong. Koresh was a licensed gun dealer. That "collection" of weapons was his INVENTORY. He was suspected of modifying guns to make them full auto. The warrant should never have been issued.

From Wikipedia:

According to the Affidavit presented by ATF investigator David Aguilera to US Magistrate Dennis G. Green on February 25, 1993, the Branch Davidian gun business (the "Mag Bag", Route 7, Box 555-B, Waco, Texas, 76705, located on Farm Road number 2491), had purchased many legal guns and gun parts from various legal vendors (such as forty-five semi-automatic AR15 lower receivers from Olympic Arms). Deliveries by UPS for the "Mag Bag" were accepted and paid for at Mount Carmel Center by Woodrow Kendrick, Paul Fatta, David Koresh or Steve Schneider. These purchases were traced by Aguilera through the normal channels used to track legal firearms purchases from legal vendors. None of the weapons and firearms were illegally obtained nor illegally owned by the "Mag Bag"; however, Aguilera affirmed to the judge that in his experience, in the past other purchasers of such legal gun parts had modified them to make illegal firearms. The search warrant was justified not on the basis there was proof that the Davidians had purchased anything illegal, but on the basis that they could be modifying legal arms to illegal arms, and that automatic weapon fire had been reported on the compound.[14] When the reports of automatic fire were first received, Steve Schneider and David Koresh showed the county sheriff department a "Hellfire" device, a quick-firing trigger sold with an ATF letter that the device was not a machinegun.

I've lived around the Waco area all of my life, and have had business dealings with these people in the past.

They are hard workers and wonderful craftsmen, but the way their wives seem subservient and silent, and their children are always a little too quiet and too nice always gave me the creeps.

It seemed that they had to get permission from the church to make purchases of cars and such. I've also heard that they needed to get permission from the church to wed. At least the med did, the women didn't really have a lot of say in the matter. This may be mostly hearsay, but I somehow doubt it.
