Seriously, at the time of your post, here are the all the mentions of "gay in this thread:

"Came here to say this."

"Exactly." (also in reference to the Boobies)

Please, show me this so-called "bashing" you speak of.

david_gaithersburg: I've been in awe by their decision to choose Tampa. That city is so far to the left they may as well be be located in China. On second thought, China wouldn't even put up with them.

Maybe the city itself is but the entire surrounding area is far right.

And why is this a big deal? The democrats only choose atlanta because it was the top strip club market at that time, its also why atlanta used to get a lot of conventions. Since they closed those down they lost a lot of conventions.

I am neither.

HairBolus: PolitiFact Florida: Is Tampa the 'strip club capital of the world'? ...
According to the magazine's count, Tampa has 20 night clubs, and the entire Tampa Bay area has 30.

Meanwhile, Miami has 30 in the city and 50 in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale corridor. (City of Miami officials did not return calls.) New York City has 45, not including Long Island or New Jersey. Las Vegas has 40 clubs. (We actually tallied 34 licensed nude and topless clubs in the Las Vegas region from local officials there, so counting clubs is not an exact science.)
...
If Tampa isn't the strip club capital of the world, we wondered if perhaps it might be No. 1 on a per capita basis. That metric would account for Tampa being a smaller city than New York or Miami. But a 2006 economic development study from the Tampa Bay Partnership found the city was merely No. 3 for strip clubs on a per capita basis, ranking behind Las Vegas, and -- even more deflating -- Cincinnati.

I don't think it's the number of clubs that's the issue - it's that the Tampa clubs are so, well, *intense*. Full nudity, full contact, anything goes stuff.

Warning: my info is years old. Haven't been to Tampa since the 90's and have no idea if that's still the case.

I'd think the place was selected for not only party affinity, but the natural ability for the area to repel their natural opposition. That part of the US, especially Florida, is somewhere already known for being able to discreetly handle undesirables such that they are removed without hesitation and identified as unwelcome for future events.

The Democrats didn't have the same intelligence in planning, since theirs is being held in a state unfavorable to one of their natural constituencies, labor unions. RTW, a law that is defective for its inability to expand choice, is enacted in North Carolina.

I think such businesses are celebrating over nothing. As most know these Republican men are usually family men of good morals and values. I just don;t see how these men visiting Tampa for anything related to the RNC will cavort with these women or even have anything to do with any businesses that panders to such activities.

A trashy, criminal city, perfect for a trashy criminal class of voter and politician (Republican). Full of disgusting, overly tan and boob-jobbed 50+ wrinkly swingers. Get-rich-quick schemers, selfish drunken Randroids, scam artists, and failed businesspeople of every stripe but mostly debt collectors, loan-sharks, and bail bondsmen.

Perfect match for the GOP dunderheads.

Are you sure about that? Tampa has a giant Rebel flag held up as you enter the city. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a crazy religious freak. And we LOVE our guns!

.
.
That is a private flag on private property. Purchasing the property was looked at but the person then would have jsut used another property.

I know you thought it was put up by the local (non-Tampa) government, but even down there the (non-Tampa) government(s) still respect freedom of speech despite your hate of the concept.

When did fark WAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH OBAMA

RECIPE
Sharkbeagle Fin Soup

Ingredients

10 pounds sharkbeagle fin, about 80 pieces
160 cups water
60 large dried black Chinese shrooms
6 cans bamboo shoots, drained
1/2 chicken breast, cooked
3 quarts Shaoxing or dry Sherry wine
4 thin slices fresh ginger
3 gallons corn, peanut or vegetable oil
9 gallons chicken broth, canned or homemade
2 cups cornstarch
1/4 gallon cold water
Salt to taste, if desired
2 cups light soy sauce
1/4 cup freshly ground pepper, preferably white
1 cup sesame oil

Preparation

1. Put the sharkbeagle's fins in a kettle, and add 80 cups of the water, barely covering. Bring to a boil and cook, turning the pieces often as they cook, about 30 minutes. Drain and chill under cold running water. Drain.

2. Put the sharkbeagle's fins in a mixing bowl, and add cold water to cover. Let stand 24 hours.

3. Meanwhile, put the shrooms into a mixing bowl, and add warm water to cover. Let stand 30 minutes or longer. Drain and squeeze dry. Cut the shrooms into fine shreds and set aside. There should be about a buttload.

4. Thinly slice the bamboo shoots, and stack the slices. Cut the slices into the thinnest possible shreds. There should be.....a LOT.

5. Using the fingers, pull the chicken breast meat into the finest possible shreds. There should be about 2/3 cups.

6. Drain the sharkbeagle's fins, and using the fingers, remove the coarse, hairy fibers. This will yield about 3 thimblefuls.

7. Put the cleaned sharkbeagle's fins into a kettle, and add 40 cups of water. Bring to a boil and drain.

8. Put the sharkbeagle's fins into a wok or kettle, and add 40 more cups of water, the wine and ginger. Bring to a boil, and let simmer 1 minute. Drain and discard the ginger.

9. Heat the corn oil in a wok or skillet, and add the bamboo shoots and mushrooms. Cook, stirring, about 10 seconds. Add the chicken broth and sharkbeagle's fins. Bring to a boil. Skim off the white foaming spittle that rises to the surface. Add salt to taste. Add the shredded chicken.

10. Blend the cornstarch and cold water. Stir this into the soup. Add the soy sauce, black pepper and sesame oil and serve.

YIELD: enough for appetizers at a Fark party

It's for the drama factor, just like when they came to Minneapolis or Saint Paul (can't remember which) all those years ago. The fact that the Cities are way left only meant that there would be plenty of protestors that the paid off cops would be able to beat down and arrest for profit, I mean public safety.

Oh, come on, you remember which, it was only four years ago.

I'm thinking it was Tampa because no other city in the nation is so f@$*! inconvenient in terms of access, hotels, airports, roads, and all-around ability to travel reasonably.

Seriously. They have possibly the best-laid-out airport in the country, and the worst access roads to get to the airport I have ever seen.

As fun as the snark may be... seriously, show me a major metropolitan area that doesn't have its share of strip clubs, and I'll show you a city that doesn't get much convention business.

Some cities may have more, some may have less, but the US isn't a theocracy, nor will it be (that's bad for business) and any city big enough and cosmopolitan enough for a convention center is big enough for a few nudie joints.
