Unless the driver was in imminent danger, that was the wrong thing to do. Keep the kid calm, but wait for EMS before you start dragging an injured person around.

Why wait for EMS? He *is* a neurosurgeon, after all...

Well I know who plays Gordon Freeman in the movie now.

What did Ryan Gosling do to deserve mention?

I'm picturing him dragging the kid away from the vehicle right before it explodes in a tower of flames... but I'm guessing it was more along the lines of "dude, are you ok?"

Why would a neurosurgeon use a crowbar?

Saved some oblivious British blogger from walking into traffic and pancaking herself. She then wrote about it and proceeded to complain about all the attention it got. He also broke up a fist fight between a street vendor and some guy who was hassling him.

I always think of him as Grand Am driver Patrick Dempsey before I remember he is Actor Patrick Dempsey.

He is a pretty damn good wheel man.

Gosling reportedly did the same thing several weeks ago, except that it was a distracted female journalist who promptly orgasmed after the near-death experience.

And then tried to play it off as a spur of the moment thing and insulted Gosling in a later article.

He told him to get off the lawn. Farking kids.

I somehow read that as McDreamy pulling the teen out of the car while it was flipping.

Would that kid have died if Dempsey hadn't pulled him from the car? No.
Did Dempsey risk injuring the kid further by pulling him from the car unnecessarily? Yes, if the kid had a spinal fracture, it would have been very risky to move him.

If Gosling hadn't pulled that woman out of the path of that car in New York, would she have been a bloody paste on the pavement? Yes.

Advantage: Gosling.

Never move an injured car accident victim unless their life is in imminent danger. Ever.

I just recently learned he used to be a Mouseketeer. Same class as Britney, Xtina and Timberlake.

But is he a real human being and a real hero?

2012-04-28 06:40:14 PM
Given he's a fairly experienced sports car driver, I imagine that he was pretty capable of making the decision about removing the kid from the car himself; he's seen and been involved in more than a few wrecks. generally, no, you don't want to move an accident victim by yourself, but I'm guessing that Grand-Am and ACO driver training/ liscencing includes risk analysis and some first-aid training.

More and more he seems to be getting possessed by the spirit of Paul Newman...

Glad we covered that moving someone who has been in an accident, and is not in immediate danger, is a bad idea. God forbid someone has to remember this information, but if the situation does come up, its better to not paralyze someone if you don't have to. In my experience at least.

FTFA: "...nothing more serious than a concussion." Hey, jackasses, a concussion is damn sure serious business. It'll frak your life up. Slowly but surely if you get multiple in your life. Think Chris Benoit.

Please - I've helped pull a guy out of a flipped car, and I don't think I'm hero material.

Idiot was weaving & speeding through traffic on a busy highway and did a 45 degree turn at 140+ km/h when his tires dug in, jumped a ditch and slid 100+ feet up an embankment on his roof.

I swear that was nowhere in my mind when I posted, and the story is true.

Still unintentionally amusing, though.
