Adebisi: grokca: offmymeds: Wait. Let me see if I've got this straight. When someone falls out of a window, they don't float, but hit the ground instead. Is that what you're trying to tell me?

That's just a theory.

The trick is to aim for the ground and miss.

Don't worry if you don't get it right the first time; the earth is mostly harmless.

This movie was an educational film to warn you about the consequences of letting toddlers jump from windows.

/apparently, you get a grindstone impaled through your leg and then bolted there
//also the kid dies

And let's not forget what happens to a guy's dick...

bigstoopidbruce: Sounds like it defenestrately is a serious problem.

Honestly, I don't think it's been defenestrated that it is.

Damned If You Do Dept.

I mean, you have to pay your monthly gravity bill, or else the Department of Inertia turns it off and all your crap just floats around the room ... yet by paying it, you're also ensuring the possibility of your own doom. DOOOM!

No Such Agency: I'd snark about helicopter parents and snowflakes... but I apparently damn near killed myself as a kid exactly this way. My mom went to the bathroom for a few minutes, and came out to find me sitting on the window ledge 3 stories up - basically one wiggle away from plunging to my doom.

Yeah I think the only reason I never got seriously hurt is that our house only had two floors and the bottom one was mostly underground at the front so the drop from the bedroom windows was only 1.5 floors.

Jumping into a few feet of snow was way too much fun, but I learned my lesson in the summer one time when I didn't clear the bushes and got all scratched up.

RibbyK: Even if the window is closed

There was a scene like that on Hill Street Blues, as I recall.

labman: Not just kids... there have been three college students in the news lately that fell off buildings or out of windows recently. (One at the college I work at, one at some other school puking out a window, and a third that just fell out of a window.)

Goddammitsomuch. One stupid drunk kid had to fall out a window and ruin it for the rest of us. Before the week was out they had installed safety locks on all campus windows so that they did not open more than four inches. Bonus: all windows, including mine, and I lived on the ground floor.

Gravity: it's not just a good idea; it's the law.

IMHO, that movie holds the coveted title of Worst Movie Ever Committed to Film.

/Seriously - DO NOT WATCH if you value your sanity and/or don't wish to give Willem Dafoe a visual proctological exam.

The stepson of a guy I worked with fell out of a second story window when he was around four years old. He had discovered wrestling on TV and was jumping on his bed in his room. His parents had told him repeatedly not to jump on his bed. One day mom was down stairs making dinner and the guy I worked with was outside mowing the lawn and saw him fall out the window and they got him to the hospital. The kid was lucky that there was only cuts and scrapes.

Seems like Portlanders have a real hard time learning this...it's sometimes the only thing on every channel at 5 o'clock whenever the weather is actually decent.
