TSA can be boiled down to this

Lisa: "By your logic, I could say this rock keeps tigers away." Homer: "Oh, how does it work." Lisa: "It doesn't work. It's just a stupid rock... But I don't see any tigers around, do you?" Homer: "Lisa, I want to buy your rock."

Bureaucrats who support TSA are stupid, lazy, narrow-minded, gutless, stubborn and suck the life out of society.

9beers: Ed Willy: There are many smart ways in which to identify potential terrorists

Sure there is, but the real pussies in the country start screaming "racial profiling" when you do it. Blame them for old ladies and toddlers being screened.

Actually, the reason the drug smuggler identification worked was because agents stopped pulling over every black and Mexican people and focused on behavior. This led to far fewer black and Mexicans being profiled, far more arrests and better use of resources.

Besides, terrorists would just recruit white people like Adam Gadahn and use them instead. Behaviors of a suicide bomber (nervous ticks, sweaty hands, casing out opportunities) are far more effective than pulling every brown person aside for invasive searches.

OK, let me get this straight.

1. TSA fails to screen a baby
2. once they realise this, 30 minutes later, they look for parents and baby
3. apparently, they cannot find them (perhaps they've boarded and left?)
4. not finding baby, Port Authority makes everyone else evacuate the area
5. having evacuated, all need to be screened again

Seriously?

Find the moron that decided to do that and at least fire his ass, preferably after a severe horse whipping for being such a farking dumb ass.

We deserve the TSA.

TSA Confiscates 4 Guns a Day
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2012/03/tsa-confiscates-4-guns- a -day/

I believe a few things:
1) The owners of over 99% of the confiscated items probably had no intention of doing any harm whatsoever
2) The TSA could find all those guns with much faster procedures than they have in place now.
3) There are still weapons that get through security unnoticed.

However, I don't want to be flying on a plane with "innocent" people who were simply too stupid to forget that they were carrying loaded weapons in their carry-on luggage.

As long as we have a stupid society, we're going to have stupid procedures at the airport.

I'm sure you're 17 and watch too much UFC. Nobody else would be so dumb as to call somebody a pussy for being in favor of airport screenings.

The observation was that the person is overly frightened to the point of needing constant excessive searches of the entire population to protect him. The insult, 'pussy' refers to the timid cowering instincts of a young kitten, properly reflecting how frightened the TSA supporter appears. Insult used properly. No foul. Play on! Tweet!

lack of warmth: I feel the same way you do about flying, however as this seems very silly I am a little on TSA's side this time. I have seen parents use babies to smuggle stuff, as in stealing and trying to get out of a store. My dad caught a guy who had put a package of tools between his child and his own person and tried to walk out like he was simply carrying his kid. Once a kid was caught stealing on his own (5 yr old) and when the grandmother showed to retrieve the child, she said "What did I tell you about being caught?". The screener should've caught it sooner and searched atleast the baby carrier as oppose to holding everybody up.

Sadly, this.

If I had to smuggle something past people, I'd use something completely innocuous like a baby. If it was something like diamonds that could wash off with no damage, I might even stitch it between the layers of a cloth diaper and have it on the baby. If the baby is poopy or wet going through screening, all the better. Nobody is going to want to search a dirty diaper, and nobody is going to be surprised when a mom or nanny wants to wash out a cloth diaper, put it in an airtight enclosure, and keep it until it can be laundered properly--and they will still not want to search it. And will still not suspect it.

9beers: You could easily hide a hand gun in a baby's diaper. Just because it's unlikely, doesn't mean that it should have been ignored. The TSA did their job. If that bothers people so much, don't fly.

In this era of locked cockpits, what do you imagine a guy with a gun will do? He can shoot every single person in back and those pilots are not going to open that door but will instead just land the plane. And if he does get in, more than likely he'll find a pilot with a gun.

Gotta love this country. Folks want to screen every smelly diaper at the airport but have no problem with thousands of armed people hanging around presidential candidates at the big conventions.

Why don't the ultra anti government spending types hate this waste of taxpayer money?

It would be like funding people in every street corner to give a small speech and hi-five the driver, then the next one. Then if you didn't Hi-Five or listen intently, or just tried to drive away, you got fined 11k and the cops were called on you, blocking traffic for 4 neighborhoods. But it would reduce roadrage, because who doesn't feel good after an awesome hi-five? I mean, road rage happens and it's our duty to make sure that drivers are safe and relaxed, when you're behind the wheel, everyone's safety is your responsibility.

Somehow, I suspect they would be angry at that government job creation program. Not sure why this one is defended. But meh.

Mock26: If we are stuck with the TSA then I fully expect them to follow protocol and do as thorough of a job as possible. I would rather that we not have the TSA, but since we are stuck with them then they did the right thing by evacuating the terminal and then screening everyone again.

That rationale doesn't hold up. It's a shiatty and deeply flawed protocol that fails to do what it intends to do. Shutting down an entire airport (even if it was the Port Authority and not TSA) for a child is ridiculous. There are many smart ways in which to identify potential terrorists by behavior (when used for drug policy it stopped a lot of false pull overs for drug smuggling) rather than doing random gropings.

Nah, the TSA needs to be flushed away - the agency serves no purpose at all. If you're too cowardly to fly without being subjected to the TSA's pervy searches, just stay home and hide under your bed.

This is the level of fear that pervades the TSA. Any random extremist asshole/nutjob could strap bombs on a baby, and blown up a plane. Therefore, unscreened baby = threat. Nevermind that there are probably other warning signs given off by people who are about to BLOW UP A FARKING BABY.

Can we just agree that "9/11 changed everything" in the worst way? (at least as far as TSA security measures are concerned, anyway)

Y'know, I've never flown, and never intend to, so while I laugh at the idiocy of the TSA, I didn't really care one way or another if it existed or not.

This, though. This. When you have to consult someone about evacuation because a baby wasn't inspected for drugs/weapons/god knows what, that alone should be a screaming red flag about the redundancy you've created. Along with all the other things they've done, as well.
