...and after all the great publicity from the other day's stopping of that 7-year-old female terrorist with cerebral palsy, too.

just don't.

/you've been warned
//Had the worst connecting flight through SFO... that flight had its own connecting flight to LAX, the next DAY we arrived to SFO.

9beers: Ed Willy: There are many smart ways in which to identify potential terrorists

Sure there is, but the real pussies in the country start screaming "racial profiling" when you do it. Blame them for old ladies and toddlers being screened.

Actually, the reason the drug smuggler identification worked was because agents stopped pulling over every black and Mexican people and focused on behavior. This led to far fewer black and Mexicans being profiled, far more arrests and better use of resources.

Besides, terrorists would just recruit white people like Adam Gadahn and use them instead. Behaviors of a suicide bomber (nervous ticks, sweaty hands, casing out opportunities) are far more effective than pulling every brown person aside for invasive searches.

fusillade762: Wow, the TSA is on a roll this week. First a 4-year-old, then a 7-year-old with cerebal palsy, now a farking baby?? Do they actually screen out people with common sense during the interviews?

I'm thinking yes, stupidity is listed as a job requirement.

The TSA are a bunch of morons, they were probably just worried their dope got through before they could intercept it:, Link

Quark_Quasar: Y'know, I've never flown, and never intend to, so while I laugh at the idiocy of the TSA, I didn't really care one way or another if it existed or not.

This, though. This. When you have to consult someone about evacuation because a baby wasn't inspected for drugs/weapons/god knows what, that alone should be a screaming red flag about the redundancy you've created. Along with all the other things they've done, as well.

I feel the same way you do about flying, however as this seems very silly I am a little on TSA's side this time. I have seen parents use babies to smuggle stuff, as in stealing and trying to get out of a store. My dad caught a guy who had put a package of tools between his child and his own person and tried to walk out like he was simply carrying his kid. Once a kid was caught stealing on his own (5 yr old) and when the grandmother showed to retrieve the child, she said "What did I tell you about being caught?". The screener should've caught it sooner and searched atleast the baby carrier as oppose to holding everybody up.

So what are those smart ways that resemble racial profiling? Because all of the smart ways I can think of don't.

lack of warmth: Once a kid was caught stealing on his own (5 yr old) and when the grandmother showed to retrieve the child, she said "What did I tell you about being caught?"

That if he kept stealing he was going to get caught and she'd spank him till he couldn't sit down for a week?

2012-04-28 08:27:00 AM

9beers: You could easily hide a hand gun in a baby's diaper. Just because it's unlikely, doesn't mean that it should have been ignored. The TSA did their job. If that bothers people so much, don't fly.

In this era of locked cockpits, what do you imagine a guy with a gun will do? He can shoot every single person in back and those pilots are not going to open that door but will instead just land the plane. And if he does get in, more than likely he'll find a pilot with a gun.

Gotta love this country. Folks want to screen every smelly diaper at the airport but have no problem with thousands of armed people hanging around presidential candidates at the big conventions.

Sadly, this.

If I had to smuggle something past people, I'd use something completely innocuous like a baby. If it was something like diamonds that could wash off with no damage, I might even stitch it between the layers of a cloth diaper and have it on the baby. If the baby is poopy or wet going through screening, all the better. Nobody is going to want to search a dirty diaper, and nobody is going to be surprised when a mom or nanny wants to wash out a cloth diaper, put it in an airtight enclosure, and keep it until it can be laundered properly--and they will still not want to search it. And will still not suspect it.

If you can think the thought "What kind of horrible person would even think of using a [insert whatever here] to smuggle stuff?"

then the answer will always be

"The same kind of horrible person who can predict that you would think that."

9beers: Gyrfalcon: I'm sure he's a pussy.

I'm sure you're 17 and watch too much UFC. Nobody else would be so dumb as to call somebody a pussy for being in favor of airport screenings.

The observation was that the person is overly frightened to the point of needing constant excessive searches of the entire population to protect him. The insult, 'pussy' refers to the timid cowering instincts of a young kitten, properly reflecting how frightened the TSA supporter appears. Insult used properly. No foul. Play on! Tweet!

TSA can be boiled down to this

Lisa: "By your logic, I could say this rock keeps tigers away." Homer: "Oh, how does it work." Lisa: "It doesn't work. It's just a stupid rock... But I don't see any tigers around, do you?" Homer: "Lisa, I want to buy your rock."

Bureaucrats who support TSA are stupid, lazy, narrow-minded, gutless, stubborn and suck the life out of society.

2012-04-28 09:41:24 AM
And again the TSA FAILS MISERABLY. All of you people defending them on this one just don't get it. Again they fail at providing security, the one thing they are responsible for, but succeed at retraining of the citizenry for submission. Once they failed to properly screen the baby they FAILED. Then they waited 30 min to give the potential terrorists time to stash their contraband before alerting anyone. It's not about security, it's about life and liberty disruption. At that, they are very successful.

That isn't how I saw it since most parents would phrase that "What did I tell you about stealing?" as oppose to the former. To me that is right up there with spanking a kid for tattling on another kid. At first glance seems normal, yet disturbing. Teaching a kid that stealing is okay as long as you don't get caught or don't tell on someone who committed a crime is how we have crimes being committed in broad daylight without the police being able to make an arrest.

I sat in a hermeneutics class once with my dad and it really sunk in. Pay attention to the words that are actually used for interpreting may be misleading. I consider my words carefully when I give my kids instructions. My oldest gets in trouble a lot for interpreting what I had asked him to do and he messed it up.

Americans must stop thinking terrorist have the same reverence for human life as we do. If it were announced tomorrow babies would not be screened, on Monday some islamic nutjob would be making baby sized bombvests and buying one-way baby tickets. THEY DON'T CARE!!!!!!

Same for someone is a wheelchair, with cerebral palsy, or a nun. If anyone, or anything is not treated the same and scanned, they will not hesitate to use it by faking an injury, dressing as a nun, or loading up a stroller with explosives.

they are not civilized and Americans must realize this or be ready for another attack.

doglover: Actually I would like to ban babies on airplanes. That or make them take special babies only flights that don't go up as high, take longer to get there, and generally encourage people with children who can't be quiet to drive without actually forcing them to by law.

Then, once it's a social more, we make it law punishable by tying the parents up in a jail cell and forcing them to listen to babies crying loudly for 48 hours while the gentle aroma of shiat and piss wafts under their nostrils.

We deserve the TSA.

TSA Confiscates 4 Guns a Day
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2012/03/tsa-confiscates-4-guns- a -day/

I believe a few things:
1) The owners of over 99% of the confiscated items probably had no intention of doing any harm whatsoever
2) The TSA could find all those guns with much faster procedures than they have in place now.
3) There are still weapons that get through security unnoticed.

However, I don't want to be flying on a plane with "innocent" people who were simply too stupid to forget that they were carrying loaded weapons in their carry-on luggage.

As long as we have a stupid society, we're going to have stupid procedures at the airport.

An innocent person who forgot their gun in their bag isn't the problem. The problem is the non-innocent person with the gun that they don't find because they couldn't find it.

As long as we have stupid people that believe the TSA provides ANY level of enhanced security we will have these stupid procedures at the airport.

Pretty much this.

The one time they let it go is probably the one time some couple go on a Bonnie and Clyde and baby hijacking spree.

Also, some types of dwarfs can pass for babies/toddlers.

You forgot the one that may or may not have made it to Fark (I checked at 3p when it happened at 6a) and that was the Minneapolis Terminal 2 (we call it Humphrey) being shutdown because of water filters in PVC tubing.
