truthseeker2083: cman: truthseeker2083: cman: No offense, but you may just be taken a bit more seriously if you were to act professional in an environment such as that. You are supposed to point out the flaws in the other group, not give them fodder to fight against you.

No offense, but the gay community has taken about as much as they can, and having tried civil tones before, some people just snap at the stupid. That's what happened according to this article (I woild like to see another source, as a 'culture wars' 'reporter' from fox news smacks of bias, but...). Sometimes, even the most professional of people can have enough of it, and say 'fark it, enough is enough'. When he's pointed out their mistakes thousands of times, I don't care if he did snap, he's handled the right-wing fundie's crap better than most people would.

They are gonna use what happened there as propaganda for their holy war of morality. They will twist it and spin it to fit their own agenda. I know it is difficult dealing with Christians, but you have to maintain a cool head when you are a leader in your cause.

If you want to win christians over to your cause, you cannot do it in this way. All you are doing is driving a further wedge between your two communities. Be the adult on this one and leave the childish things to the Christians

I can see that, and understand that... however, the people who are going to use it against us don't need any reason that we give them to attack us. These christians that will do that already equate us with dog-farkers and kiddie-diddlers. They already use the most vile, demeaning lies and words against the gay community. If he was going out every day screaming these things at christians, I would agree it was counter productive. But someone finally giving in and saying what he supposedly said isn't going to harm us in the long run. They already have a persecution complex, and this won't add much weight to what they think is already there. These people are afraid of the gay maf ...

The frustration is understandable and I empathize with him, however, Dan Savage isn't attempting - nor should he bother trying - to convince hardline Christians; his message is for everyone else who can be reasoned with. As was already stated, giving the opposition definitive fodder to attack him won't hurt his standing with hardliners, but it'll hamper his efforts with everyone else.

Gay the pray away Dan. Gay it the fark away..

Right in the middle of the article is this glowing review for the author of the article:

"SARAH PALIN LOVES TODD'S NEW BOOK
SO DOES MARK LEVIN AND SEAN HANNITY"

That about does it for his credibility in my eyes. I mean, he actually wants us to believe that Sarah Palin can read? Please...

/Fark those christian bastards.

Agreed. If you want things to get better, you have to take the high road. Every time.

"They're ass holes all the time, so it's ok if we're assholes once in a while". Except it's not. Every time you're an ass hole you lose ground.

fark you, asshole. Based on the evidence, the right has been winning for quite a while by being assholes, and the farkers who are pushing this anti-gay bullshiat certainly haven't stopped because we've been polite to them. Taking the 'high road' has gotten exactly nowhere, and it's time to start calling people on their bullshiat in unequivocal terms, including yours.

Savage is a farking asshole. (Not intended.)

The douchebag goes under a pretense of speaking out against bullying and uses it to launch a political tirade against something only tangentially related to bullying (he could have decried the use of the Bible to justify bullying without going into a anti-Christian tirade), and then does what he ostensibly came to preach against when people take offense.

He's just another holier-than-thou "do as I say not as I do" hypocrite, no different than the people he attacks, just on the other side. And you people defend this jackass.

Presumably some of the Christians in the audience knew who he was, and came anyway to support the message he was supposed to have shared. [sarcasm]I guess now they know better than to trust gays.[/sarcasm]

Yeah, that sounds like what I would do in that situation. Then again, they probably wouldn't hire me to give the speech for exactly that reason.

I pretty much agree with this.

I'm not gay but I consider myself very liberal, and although I haven't listened to all of his podcasts or read all of his columns, I've listened and read enough to determine that I think this guy's a holier-than-thou prick.

My point was that of course his language and tone and message would have inappropriate content for some of the audience members. I'm a lesbian, I couldn't care less about whether Dan Savage is gay, but I do care that they hired the guy who changed the definition of Santorum forever. And the talk was apparently supposed to be about bullying, not sex.

You've got farking 10 NFL players a week in the news slapping a biatch, assaulting, raping, etc, and yet you pick on a white boy who believes a fairytale? Now you applaud someone for berating people with different beliefs? How is this guy and all of you who support this action any different from hate mongers like Rush and O'Reilly?

Earlier my boss and I were discussing how "people aren't free to say what they're really feeling." I had to point out that you're free to state your feelings about anything, but everyone else is free to feel/say what they will about it, and judge you by societal standards.

Glad to see this thread agrees, and is judging Señor Savage's statement's accordingly.

They dont always convince people with manufactured bullshiat. There are people that always see through it. Not all Christians believe that Obama is ineligible to be President. This, however, may invoke an emotion of an attack on their religion.

2012-04-28 03:15:34 AM
In the times I have seen, heard, or read his material, Dan Savage has almost always skewed things into a "you're either with me or against me" thing and this seems to be no exception. Turning an anti-bully speech into a platform for bullying a belief which is different from your own is hypocritical and dishonest. If this was as bad as reported then there will likely be clips of this floating around on youtube within the next few days if there aren't some already.

The first thing he told the audience was, 'I hope you're all using birth control,'" she told CitizenLink. "he said there are people using the Bible as an excuse for gay bullying, because it says in Leviticus and Romans that being gay is wrong. Right after that, he said we can ignore all the (expletive deleted) in the Bible."

Yes, some of the christers are indeed using the bible for their bullying. So, the christers get easily offended when someone points out their hypocrisy. christers please!
