Just looking them makes that pretty damned apparent. Who wouldn't realize that was a problem before buying one, or if you were the store, offering them for sale?

Or during production? Or during a prototype inspection? Or during the part where someone draws the farking thing onto paper and says to a bunch of people, "What do you think about this?" Not one person stopped and thought, "Hm, those ears sure do look pokey."

Yep, then too. I'm wondering if anyone involved in the design or production of this sippy cup has any real experience with young children.

Heh! Most definitely not the ones who designed the sippy cup.

Who at Target thought this was a good idea?

There's a... there is a "target" joke here somewhere, and I'll be damned if it isn't way too 4:23 on a Friday when no one else showed up for work for me to find it.

Another attack from China. They're trying to blind our children in one eye to ruin their depth perception. It'll give them an edge over us when the war starts.

And even after all that, didn't they, I dunno, quality test them? Give them to a sample batch of kids or someone and say "Try this out?" Just to make sure the damn things didn't leak or, well, poke someone's eye out?

The only thing I can POSSIBLY imagine is that they never considered kids might actually drink out of them...

They're probably massed produced in China where such things are not given much thought. These are the type of folks who put melamine in milk to increase its protein level. That sell fake baby formula that provides so little nutrition that the babies who drink it starve to death. That paint toys with toxic lead paint.

Now THAT is funny, because we bought two of them for our daughter. I guess I'll take them back.

Could be worse, they could have delicious levels of lead and cadmium in them.

"Customers can return it to the store for a full refund."

Why are the parents getting refunds? Did they win the cups in a blind raffle, not seeing them until they got home? Obviously they spotted them in the store, thought they looked cute, so they bought them of their own free will. If some short-sighted dickbag buys his five year old a pellet gun and he shoots his front tooth out, is Target also liable? Hell, a wooden spoon is dangerous if the kid jabs it in their eye socket.

Full refund, no. Store credit, at best.

The original design might have called for soft or bent ears, but somewhere between design and final manufacturing changes could have been made. The part might not have pulled out of the mold properly, or it couldn't be filled as designed. Or it could have been a crappy design to begin with.

Marketing has a big part in what goes out the door too. QA could have pointed out the flaws in the design, but if marketing wanted a cute cup then that's what's getting made. As for testing them on little kids - nope, doesn't happen. Why should a company see if a bottle works for their intended market?

/QA tech for a major bottle manufacturer
//We sell lots of bottles to Target
///So glad it's not one of ours!

So I guess my porcupine sippy cup is a no-go?

When I was in Target yesterday I swear in the Toys section I saw a Bag O Glass for sale.

/WAFF's website sucks! Ads are slowly making the Internet suck as much as tv. At some point web sites will be dependent on corporations as much as tv stations. Then when a group like GLAD gets offended and threatens boycotts all the cool fun shiat will be gone again. Sorry if you think got I carried away thr.

Show of hands: Who here has been in that meeting where you point out the GLARINGLY obvious flaw in the CEO's new idea, only to have the other 5 "yes men" in the room give you the evil eye and tell the boss that you are an idiot, and that is why they never bring you to these meetings.

Worst kids' product I've seen. Sure, it looks cute. Even more so knowing that it's bendable and posable.

Ah, but the feet are suction cups. Guess what happens when it's stuck to the table, tines up, and a frustrated 2 year old tries with all her might to pull it straight up and slip the surly suction cup-table bonds. Just guess.

Luckily, no eyes lost that day.

How this made it through any sort of QA defies logic.

As a poor schmuck that cleans a part of target's corporate headquarters, I can honestly say that the bastages probably weren't thinking about anything outside of "ooh, shiny penny!"

The article fails to mention another design flaw in these dumb things. The handles are part of a ring that is supposed to sit just below the threads, but if you take the lid off to fill it then put it back on, the ring gets in the way of the threads so the lid doesn't seal properly. We grabbed one for our kid because she liked the bunny, then threw it away a couple days later because it dripped all over.
