Olmos is the lamest celebrity Twit on the interweb. All he ever talks about is BSG and it's always in the voice of Adama.

It's like he can't break out of this particular role.

I would prefer he took on the persona of Jaime Escalante. At least then he wouldn't appear to be such a tool.

I always considered the Rodney King episode a fantastic example of 'intelligent' mob justice.

Cops beating Rodney = wrong. The result? Caught on tape, broadcast through nearly every news media in the US, heavy fire comes down on the LA police and investigations are opened, cops arrested, loose their jobs, some imprisoned, changes are made, bad publicity all around.

Rodney basically walks out of the hospital a hero and a millionaire.

Result: an entire black neighborhood burned down, including black owned businesses, riots, beatings, killings, millions of dollars of damage, rescue workers showing up to save black people, homes and buildings get shot at, fought with and hampered by rioters.

Afterwards, as rioters strutted around with the 'that'll show 'em' attitude, businesses refused to reopen, others changed plans to build there, cabs and pizza delivery companies stopped sending drivers into the area, insurance companies redlined the entire zone, black business owners chose not to rebuild in their own neighborhoods and recovery was slow as land lords declined to rebuild.

Basically, the area became a dump. Their OWN area at their own hands.
The logic of destroying your own home in protest escapes me. So does the logic of beating and killing your own people in protest of an action by some other people elude me.

For years afterwards, the area was heavily red zoned by businesses and still is today and the residents biatch about it and call it discriminatory. Even ambulances need police escorts and afterwards, taxis and delivery guys got robbed there so often that they stopped going.

Then that was called discrimination.

Yeah. 'Intelligent' mob justice works.

(Looks at your screen name) So basically, Olmos is the Mexican Denzel in your world.

From what little I've heard from people who've met him, he's passionate, he's very intelligent, and he's not a dick. He's not Will Smith (ie having to be especially disarming and engaging for survival reasons), but he's not 'I don't see you, you don't exist' or a Gweneth Paltrow. He's cool in my book. He can talk anyway he wants.

If things have changed tho, I'd like to hear about it.

Well, considering that King has been arrested multiple times after the beating/trial including further DUIs and PCP usage, I'd say that nothing much has changed at all.

The difference in LA and Florida is that Florida does not have the Gun Control laws that keep people from defending themselves.

Instead of a Reginald Denny getting beaten....you will see a lot more rioters getting capped. It will be Stand Your Ground on steroids...and innocent people will not be subjected to the brutality

After the Sanford City Council voted to reject the Police Chief resignation....you are seeing people now tired of all the Al Sharpton-Black Racist nonsense.

Despite Florida gun laws, if I was a small business owner there (or almost any major American city) I'd be hiring some Korean consultants right now:

4.bp.blogspot.com

Have never been able to confirm the story, but the rumor at the time of the LA Riots was that due to their High Expectation Asian Fathers and families' modest means, many LA Koreans had joined the Marines to pay for college. Turns out both educations came in mighty handy that week. I will pay my taxes with a smile to fund these government programs.

So...you think there weren't any guns in Los Angeles in the 90s during the height of the gang wars? Lol. You also seem to think that the law controls who has guns. You also seem to think that because Florida drafted a law it automatically turned a bunch of necks into sharp-shooting assassins.

Oh, and I'm sure the people of Sanford were all just as tolerant as Zimmerman before Al Sharpton arrived.
