Maple Leafs in 7!

mainstreet62: drworm: Rwa2play: mainstreet62: Philly is going to flop vs. New Jersey, simply because the Swiss cheese that was in front of goal for the Penguins has now been replaced by actual goaltending.

Partially agree with this: The series will go 7 because Brodeur > Fleury. If Bryz steps up his game it will be a close series; if he continues leaking goals it'll be over sooner.

actual goaltending is defined by a goalie with 2.43 GAA vs a team that only score 2.4 G/G in the regular season?

Compared to Fleury this postseason, anything else, quite literally, is actual goaltending.

well, holding a 2.4 G/G team to 2.43 G/G the Flyers should easily score 3-4 goals a game, more than enough to win 4 games against the devils.

With the Devils uncanny ability to give up leads and the Flyers uncanny ability to come from behind I cant see this series going more than 5 games. Last series to start first one to end.

Of course he's a homer for NYR.. he's a New Yorker. They get to the 2nd round and he already expects to blow by Caps and whoever they play in the 3rd round and finals

Enough of the East. We'll bicker enough when those games actually start.

Who wins the West series, Quick or Halak?

Granted LA's offense isn't as potent as STL's, I like Quick as the hotter goaltender.

Really? Quote me on that one. I've said nothing of the sort, I did however have the audacity to take issue with your OPINION (stated as fact) that the Rangers won't win the series against Washington because they are too "beat up".

Sorry I didn't lick your taint because you got 5 of 8 first rounds series correct. I didn't realize I was dealing with such an infallible prognosticator.

Devils take 3 penalties in the first few minutes of pd 3. Fla ties it. Derp.

Flyers in 5 unfortuantely.

Flyers-Preds final.

Preds in 6.

The Bloos might have something to say about that, especially if PHO can make that series last a good long time. Rinne has a lot of miles on those wheels this season already, he has got to be getting tired.

I don't think the Kings can out-D the Bloos, but that series is going to be a snoozer when it comes to offense. I think it goes seven, they play 25+ periods, and a grand total of 10 goals are scored (both teams).

I'm gonna disagree with you here. People are assuming that when two defensively oriented teams meet in the playoffs, it'll be a yawner. No. Instead the low scoring games will be of such high intensity, you won't care if there are goals on the board. And the series in general will have a lot more goals scored than you think with a few games being the 6-5 variety.

You mean Elliott? Brian Elliott was the most dominating goalie in the league this year and had he started more games would be the hands down favorite for the Vesiner. Halak will not be available until game 3 at the earliest and may not even play if Elliott is hot. I give STL a big edge in this series.

Ah yes thanks. I knew Halak was out with an injury and due to come back soon but couldn't remember the #2's name. I'll admit I don't watch a lot of west coast hockey.

That's pretty much his thing.

I'll clarify my earlier statement where I agreed with him though: I don't think the Rags are too beat up, but the Caps have some serious momentum. They've toppled the #2 seeded defending champions while the rangers squeaked by the 8 seed. Gaborik was a phantom in round 1 - more Ovechkin than Ovechkin.

Smith and Rinne are both excellent. That's a wash.

I'd say coaching is also a wash in that series. Both Tippett and Trotz are very good coaches.

Nashville has a stronger defense with Weber and Suter, and more scoring depth. I give them the edge in the series, and they're my pick to come out of the West. Seem to me like a team built for the playoffs.

What leads you to believe he wouldn't? It was not a question of durability with him but rather the luxury of an equally worthy goalie on the same team. Even if his numbers did slip a little with extra time he still would have led the league in GAA, would have had the most SOs, and would have finished top 3 in SV% if not maintained his #1 ranking. Lundqvist will win and he had a solid year but Elliott was the best goalie in the league this season.

Looks like it only took one more post to get him to scurry away.

I'd agree that the Caps do have some momentum and should be very confident after taking down Boston. Plus they obviously have a goaltender in Holtby who can win games for them.

That said, it's a brand new series, so it's largely irrelevant that the Rangers "squeaked" by the Senators - they had to win two straight games and to do it under EXTREME pressure. For a young team dealing with high expectations for the first time, that's also a confidence building experience that'll help them going forward.

At this point, I'd never say the Rangers are definitely going to win or lose a series. All I'll say is that they've won games in this fashion since October, so there's no reason they can't continue doing it. And yes, they could use a few goals from Gaborik.

I think the Yotes gave up the most shots on goal in the first round. Still hoping they win the West as their attendance is poor and don't want to see another team move from the South or West.

You might have a point there. Something I didn't know: the Kings never saw more than one of Perron, McDonald, and Steen all season. Now all three are healthy (ish), with that Steen-Berglund-McDonald line being a beast in the first round.

Doc Daneeka: Nashville has a stronger defense with Weber and Suter, and more scoring depth. I give them the edge in the series, and they're my pick to come out of the West. Seem to me like a team built for the playoffs.

If that were the case, they would've played the backup goalie a lot more (I can't remember his name). Take a look at Rinne's ice time, he led the league in minutes, I think for the second year running. He's a beast for sure, but that's got to be a grind.

As far as the rest of the team, no doubt - those trade deadline moves were huge, and getting Radulov has really helped them. I still think the Radulov situation is total bullshiat, though, since every other KHL player has to pass through waivers if they want to get back to the NHL. Oh well, it's their last real shot to do anything before Weber and Suter (amongst others) head for the hills.

So, STL, NAS, WAS, NJD for this round, I'd say.

Gah! For everyone's benefit and education, I present to you the story of Georges Vézina: the Chicoutimi Cucumber (pops, wiki)

Money quote: "From when he joined the Canadiens in 1910, until being forced to retire in 1925, Vézina never missed a game nor allowed a substitute, playing in 328 consecutive regular season games and an additional 39 playoff games."

Gaborik is always a phantom during the playoffs. This is nothing new.

Hank keeps standing on his head and Kreider/Hagelin make up for Gabby disappearing this year. Also, Brian Boyle scores goals?!?

Well, kind of. But if Nashville hadn't gotten screwed by the Radulov situation in the first case, they wouldn't be in a position to benefit now.

So it all balances out.

They're not signing some KHL player and bringing him over. They're just finally getting the services of their player, which was owed to them under a valid contract.
