Interesting....When I listen to her talk, I immediately want to punch myself in the face.

lennavan: HeartBurnKid: qorkfiend: way south: /Everyone seems to think the democrats have dozens of good candidates for 2016.

I don't know anyone who thinks the Democrats have dozens of good candidates for 2016. There's discussion around Hillary and Joe Biden, since one ran last time and the other's the sitting Vice President, but I don't think anyone thinks either is a "good" candidate. There are very few nationally-recognized Democrats.

That's been troubling me as well. There's not really a lot of strong candidates to succeed Obama. I guess Franken is there...

I like Warren a lot, but let's let her serve a term in the Senate first, huh?

She doesn't seem that political, you'd figure getting kids to eat healthy was about as non partisan as you could get...until a black chick says it.

The only problem anyone has with her is that she has taken 18 vacations in the last 3 years on the taxpayers dime. Who the hell does that?

saintstryfe: qorkfiend: How many of them are actually interested in running in 2016? I'll admit I haven't heard much about Governors Schweitzer or O'Malley, but I'd put Cuomo and Booker at 2020 or later; they're both relatively young men and can afford to wait, and Booker would probably be in a much stronger position if he was Governor of New Jersey prior to a presidential run.

Schwitzer I was suprised he didn't run in 2008. He's a popular democratic goverrnor of MONTANA... that's something. I think someone who wasn't a governor or senator would be an interesting choice, so I could see Booker. And I think Obama has broken the age thing - people want to do it earlier. They don't want to have their 8 stressful years then die a few later anymore. Plus I think right now there's an actual bias against age. The "old white men" thing.

And even if you have Obama win a second term, there is still a decent chance of another democratic candidate winning in 2016 since odds are the right will go even DERPIER if they lose 2012. They will claim the didnt go right enough, just like what happened after McCain lost.

Don't they pay for their vacations?

Also how many did the Bush family take? I think they set some records there. But there was never any whining from people about the cost of constantly flying back and forth to Crawford.

There has been criticism of the president's vacation at this time. But how does the number of vacation days the president has spent compare to his predecessors? CBS Radio's Mark Knoller has kept track of presidential vacations for years and supplied the data.

So far, President Obama has taken 61 vacation days after 31 months in office. At this point in their presidencies, George W. Bush had spent 180 days at his ranch where his staff often joined him for meetings. And Ronald Reagan had taken 112 vacation days at his ranch.

I think it really depends on the candidates. An average (not moderate; average campaigner) candidate for both parties would probably result in a GOP victory, simply because the Democrats are the incumbents.

Addendum because I actually care that what I believe is true: I don't feel comfortable saying the driver of the tractor trailer was drunk. Sorry. The guy was never charged and Biden has not been consistent over the years. (Nor was he there. When a guy's wife and kid is killed, I allow them a little wishful thinking.)

Republicans are easily startled children who view the first lady as a surrogate mother.

It's why they hated Hillary -- she stirred resentment among boomers who had to deal with mommy getting a career. It's why they loved Crazy Reagan lady who just told them to not do drugs, and the Bush first ladies who just occasionally nagged them to read (the bible) more. Now they're dealing with a stepmother who is not only career oriented like Hillary, but wants them to eat their vegetables. Also, she's a different skin color from most of them.

Is it any surprise that they're essentially playing out the political equivalent of Oppositional Defiant Disorder? Their pathology just snaps into focus with her because she's avoided Hillary's mistake of being at the forefront of high profile legislation they could take it out on.
