Batman has studied Buddhist mysticism, so he's not out of place.

The predator is an alien. If they said it was a xenomorph, that would be incorrect.

So Jesus and Buddha are sitting in the Great Beyond and Buddha is razzing Jesus:

"Yo, dude, check out that Vatican. Gets a little bigger every year. Wonder how that squares with your message?"

Jesus smiles and says: "Have you taken a look at Wat Rong Khun lately?"

Buddha: "Crap."

Is that a pod racer I see there next to Neo?

2012-04-27 10:00:47 AM
Anyone else notice the pod racer in the mural...?

Centuries from now I secretly hope people find this temple along with footage from star wars, the matrix, etc and conclude that these were all real and significant religions centered around true historical events and not just interesting stories.

Like what happened with the bible.

Look in the bottom left of the picture that shows Neo I'm pretty sure that's a pod racer which is so much worse.

I look forward to enlightening myself by reading the deep philosophical and religious discussions about Buddhism sure to result from this thread.

/But seriously, one thing about Buddhism that I've always respected is no angry Sky God called Yahweh, who created the universe 13.7 billion years ago and had nothing better in mind when he created it than leading a group of Jews through the desert for forty years and watching you poop and masturbate.

//Raised Christian; feel that I really have outgrown it.

///Nothing against Jesus, but his father's a complete asshole.

Buddhism still has arbitrary mythology/cosmology. It's a very diverse faith.

I was at this temple at the end of January. It is so much different than most (if not all) of the other Buddhist temples I saw in SE Asia. Unfortunately I only got to spend 30 minutes there....

I used to visit the temple yearly from 2005-2009 or so and have a bunch of progress pics somewhere, maybe back in the US.
I have a 5 day break coming up, maybe I should take the ride from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai to get pics.

It's not just any pod-racer - it's Anakin's pod racer.

The no smoking sign is somewhat terrifying.

Why is there a pit full of hands and sharp things? If you fall in they'll catch and stab you?

And the damn predator emerging from the ground.

/mind is slightly blown

Friggin' Neo gets love at that temple but no Spider-Man? Hulk? Some Hindus must hate Marvel or something.

trappedspirit: This is not supposed to seem retarded?

Buddhists from SE Asia aren't uptight assholes. They laugh and drink and do all sorts of things Christians imagine are forbidden by their own religion. Where a Christian might think a picture of wonder woman in church or a practitioner smoking pot makes Jesus cry, many Buddhists just don't have that problem. I'm looking forward to some of the parties/festivals/fund raisers at some temples this summer. The man drive there and the woman drive their drunk asses home at the end of the night.
