ChrisDe: The coach doth protest too much. Interesting career choice, one where he can watch young men shower.

Young, virile, athletic, blossoming men.

Yep.

I don't care if he gets fired or not, just like I'm sure he doesn't care I'm now convinced he's SO totally gay. I can't help but think that was his intention in the first place, though, so I probably am giving him some sort of satisfaction. Sorry buddy, I don't swing that way, which is exactly why I'm perfectly fine if others choose to or are born to.

Someone should tell the South that "straight" people who worry about gay sex are out of the closet now.

"The question I have for you all is, like Pontius Pilate, what are you going to do with Jesus?" Brown asked at the time. "Ultimately, if you don't have a relationship with Him, and you don't really have a Bible-believing mentality, really, anything goes...At the end of the day it matters what God thinks most."

I'm going to remember what Jesus the man said and I'm going to try to honor the man's memory. Most of all, I will spread the love he preached. I may not sleep among lepers but I will clothe those who need clothes, feed those who hunger, and give drink to those who thirst. I will do those things in his memory and in the hope that what I do, others will do.

And when I'm gone and no one utters my name any more, there will probably be more people who remember that pinkish-hued guy who kept his mouth shut and helped when he could help than remember that bigot who thought judging others with his loud mouth had something to do with piety.

Did you just refer figure skating as a sport?

Don't fire the guy for being an asshole. But make sure that it is clear that the university does not share his views. Freedom of speech goes both ways. Just make sure that your employees do not represent your institution.

Misrepresent. I'm having an off night.

Although having read the rest of the thread now, the guy who mentioned a non-discrimination policy has a damn good point. Or does this guy have no say in who is recruited and who gets to play?

So, what are the differences? I'm gay, known I've had crishes on boys all my life. I know for a fact I've been gay all my life. One might say born this way. But, for the discussion here, let's say I wasn't but chose to fall in love with my partner of five years.... Why can't I fight for equal rights. Why shouldn't that 'choice' be covered like the choice of religion. You aren't born xian, or muslim or druid, yet they are protected. Why not sexual orientation? Is this not supposed to be the greatest country on earth where we seek to make our lives happy as long as no one is hurt or pressured into anything? Or is that belief about this country only for the derpers of the lowest level?

Yeah, he is an asshole, but his free time is his own to do with what he pleases.

You would think its farked up if an employer fired an employee for attending a pro-choice rally on their own time, why treat him differently?

actually, i kind of agree with this. it's his right to be an asshole. as long as he's not an asshole at work, who cares?

Because he works at a university, and he supports discrimination in the workplace? His views are directly related to his work.

scottydoesntknow: "To be fired for my faith would be a greater honor than to be fired because we didn't win enough games," Brown told the AP. "I haven't lost any sleep over it. I realize at some point, we live in a politically correct enough culture where that very well could happen."

Then demote him until he's a water boy for being a shiatty coach and role model, don't bring his views of homosexuality into it.

Don't give him the smug satisfaction of acting like a martyr for his cause. Make his career life so shiatty he up and quits on his own because no one will care then.

"I haven't lost any sleep over it. I realize at some point, we live in a politically correct enough culture where that very well could happen."

Ah yes, blame this "politically correct" culture. Hiding behind your persecution is so 33 AD. The politically correct culture is one wherein we can't make fun of the disabled or bully smelly people any more. Expecting people in very public positions to not endorse hateful sentiment is not being politically correct. Yes, you are free to say your hateful things and we are free to mock you and your employer is free to fire you. The First Amendment does not protect you from criticism or consequences.

"Ultimately, if you don't have a relationship with Him, and you don't really have a Bible-believing mentality, really, anything goes."

Actually, that's incorrect. Atheists don't believe they have an afterlife to look forward to, so they live their best life now instead of saving it up for after they're dead. We call it "having a conscience" and we don't need a supernatural consequence machine to keep us in line.

That's why I'm against it. That would be a valid argument! We'd have to actually debate you on that!"

As a gay man, I don't care if he's fired or not. He can say what he likes. It's just interesting to me, that a large segment of the black community of America fights so hard to hold down another segment (look at how prop 8 went for a recent, public example, or how gays are looked at in their own community), when they had to go through their own fight for equal rights not 100 years ago.

"The real christ" didn't hold much love for the Pharisees or the money changers. "The real christ" set up conditions like no one gets to heaven if they don't believe in him. While I realize that your views on christianity is different from mine if you are a Christian don't gloss over the judgmental nature of christianity.
