I actually see a huge business opportunity in a free market solution.

What if someone were to become the Google equivalent of a child friendly search engine? That way you could restrict your children to only go to sites acceptable to this search engine.

Doesn't count.

It was more than a week ago.

Bah. That's the Republican theocrat approach. I much prefer the Democratic social control approach: dramatically raise taxes on hand lotion and Kleenex.

Yeah, you'd think someone would do that!

Mormonism for everyone!

9beers: GAT_00: Well then, explain please how a mandatory device acting as a government intrusion into the personal lives of Americans by interfering with their own life choices is small government? Or how it is small government acting to dictate to private business how a free market should work?

What? Have you bought a new TV in the past few years? If so, it has a V-chip in it. Has that ever stopped you from watching anything? No! Why not? Because nobody is interfering with your choices, they're offering a tool for people who wish to use it.

Shouldn't the free market handle that one?

"Hey parents! If you buy our computer, it blocks unwanted websites to prevent your children from seeing questionable content!"

vs.

"Vote for me and I'll force private companies to install devices in their merchandise to protect all of our snowflakes"

9beers: We're doomed when some of you start having kids.

If we can survive your parents' generation raising halfwits like you, I feel pretty good about my future children's odds.

9beers: Nadie_AZ: parents must be the answer

So what's your plan for controlling a kids TV and internet use? Should you lock up all electronics when you're not home? Should you not allow them to have a computer or TV in their room? It's ridiculous to say that even the best parents can monitor what their kids are viewing on a TV or computer 100% of the time.

You'd let your kid have a computer in their own room? Wow....

And it's insane to think a V-chip for computers will stop them from seeing porn. Kids understand technology far better than adults do, and it's a hell of a lot more intuitive for them. I guarantee they'll figure out how to break it in a week tops.

Kids see porn. GOP solution: Big government.

Kids need food. GOP solution: (crickets)
Kids need clothing. GOP solution: (crickets)
Kids need education. GOP solution: (crickets)....

This sounds like a great plan. I'm sure there's a long list of things we can mandate to force our country into being perfectly prosperous and moral.

TOO BAD WE BELIEVE IN FREEDOM, JACKASS.

Basically, he was proposing making Net Nanny or the equilvalent being required to be installed on new computers sold in the US. He wasn't banning porn per se, just making it mandatory to have an optional porn filter pre-installed that parents could turn on if they wanted to.

Still stupid, but fairly meh, all things considered.

All TVs sold in the US are required to have the V-chip installed by law, so that is a quite valid comparison, IMHO.

2012-04-26 07:38:27 PM
So who decides which sites get filtere?

Could it be used to block non-pr0n sites?

Do manufacturers decide or do sites have to willingly comply and add some sort of flag to their sites?

Is it possible this could be used to block the sites of the manufacturers competitors?

What about international sites?

There are more pressing issues than "pron blockers"

Jeez...the GOP doing everything to help Obama get re-elected

2012-04-26 07:40:51 PM
Because the V-chip ensured kids never saw inappropriate content on television again.

2012-04-26 07:41:37 PM
b..b..b..but I thought it was about the economy!

No, that's right, it's about rape wands for pregnant slutty mcwhore biatches, tax cuts for billionaires, and getting between me and my pornography.

This is the last straw!

2012-04-26 07:42:06 PM
Yeeeah, go up against Big Porn. Cause if there's one thing this nation hates more than a triple bacon Western cheesebuger, it's the ability to freely look at titties and cocks.

2012-04-26 07:45:12 PM
Imagine for a second the (justified, for once) derpstorm if Obama was suggesting that the Government should mandate that all computers sold have a censorship chip installed in them.

I'd bet most of us criticizing the porn filter proposal also think the mandated V-chip law is crazy too.

I whole heartedly support this initiative, it's high time.

No. Wait. I misread. I missed the "censoring" part. I mean, who could oppose mandatory porn?

Are righties too stupid to understand the hypocrisy of their positions or do they simply not care about those positions in the first place?

but what will the GOP do about those provocative AXE commercials?

2012-04-26 07:46:43 PM
Why do I get the feeling that this would just lead to the children developing weirder and weirder fetishes as they struggle to find anything on the internet to turn them on? Lolcats, fail vids, inane top 10 lists, gardening blogs, everything will become fair game for horny teenagers looking to get their jollies off.

/either that or the JC Penny site will get a lot more traffic

I have tried to hold back on responding to any of you who even use the term "libtard" but since you are continuously typing, I'll bite for once.

What you are insinuating is the exact same kind of mentality that I personally abhor. It's not about monitoring or constantly keeping tabs on what your kids are doing. Your leading questions about what would you do to "control" your kids is, right away, the wrong way to do it. You're forgetting (or deliberately ignoring) about communication and early education on what's right and wrong. I grew up around violent television and video games all my life, and I didn't turn into a Columbine-like death machine, not because my parents hid away the R-rated movies and porn, but they taught me early on what was reality and what wasn't.

But I'm a libtard. I'm going to ruin your world when I'm older, right?

Quasar: "I wanna make sure that every new computer sold in this country after I'm president has installed on it a filter to block all pornography and that parents can click that filter to make sure their kids don't see that kinda stuff coming in on their computer."

Old and busted: magic underwear
New hotness: magic computer technology

How's that going to work for those of us who build our own from separate pieces, parts, components, stuff?

put the talents of all government programmers up against the talents of all teenagers who want to look at porn...

seems legit. cant fail.

good point, Fappage doesnt' have to involve penetration it could be as simple as a Victoria Secret web site.

so this whole idea is the start and finish of a bad idea.

The idea of something building something to use is completely foreign to Mitt Romney. "You work with your hands? Clearly your parents didn't spend enough on your private grade school!"

Son, I've already had kids, and raised them - and they came out a hell of a lot smarter than you.

Those who pass the laws believe they are above the laws.

Same with those who write the laws.

Does the V-chip black out any commercials? Do they need a rating too?

And what if you built your own computer from scratch? Or bought Linux? Or whatever?

Would the VChip need to somehow be at the hardware level?

It's a lot easier to build your own computer than your own TV.

They are social conservatives. Not surprising.

Look at Ryan's budget and you won't find a shred of fiscal conservatism.

In my opinion cult religions are worse than porn. Just my opinion. Obviously, there should be a majority vote on which gets censored first, phony religious cults or porn. In the end both would be censored.

I don't know anything about the V-chip, that said, i am somewhat more tech savvy than the guy who works in the electronics dept. of Wal Mart so i don't see how having the chip would benefit anyone if most don't even know how to utilize it.

I would give a lot of commercials an NC17 rating.

Wow, that is THE shiattiest website I have seen in at least 10 years... Looks like it was designed back in '98, and hasn't been touched since.

It IS rather funny that this company has been giving Mittens the ol' reach-around, though.

Well, yes. Generally, one does not get killed or severely injured when one watches porn. Even if you *are* a kid.
