Oh marvelous, now maybe she can afford to buy medical insurance that covers birth control like everyone else.

Instead of, you know, going to a college she specifically knows doesn't cover it as part of their student insurance then whining about the fact that they don't cover it.

Next she can go to a restaurant that serves the food she wants but not the drink she wants, then complain about the fact that it doesn't serve the drink she wants instead of going to a different place to eat.

After that she can purchase a car that has all the options on it she wants except one that isn't offered on that model, and she can complain about that instead of... You know... buying a car that has the options she wants.

I suppose next she's going to purchase a health insurance plan that doesn't cover birth control then demand that the company that provides her health insurance cover it instead of going to a different company that offers the coverage she wants.

you'd think that she would have put 1 and 2 together and figured out that if she needed contraception that it was a man eh?

Monica Crowley is a coont.

This is a horrible attempt at trolling. It's too wordy and doesn't really make sense. You should feel bad about yourself.

Salt Lick Steady: Doesn't that undercut the very argument that she was using birth control because she was a slut who didn't want to get pregnant?
/probably already been mentioned, sorry

Duh, she's bisexual, just like all the sluts. Satanic bisexual orgies. You don't even want to know what the baby would look like. That's why she's desperate for that free birth control.

Except Sandra Fluke is a way better feminist than that.

Even feminists like big penii.

Oh, we do. We just also know not to define ourselves by the men in our lives and not to call other women biatches.

See, Rush Limbaugh? Feminists love big penises, but they hate massive dicks.

That about sums it up actually.

And in such a way! We all should get together for tea some time. Do you girls like to have tea? We need to have the Farkette's Tea and Crumpets Circle some time.

jso2897: Your television has a channel control. If you don't want slime spewed in your face, don't turn on Fox news. I'm pretty sure Ms. Fluke doesn't watch Fox news. Probably has better sense.

Who watches FOX?

I just encounter their "Worst of" moments on Fark politics links and in pieces on TDS and TCR.

Are you suggesting I should just say nothing when this kinda thing happens?

Cos that really doesn't work for me all that well.

The folk at FOX News are masters of attacking people.

After a while turning the other cheek gets bit dull.

Attempt to maintain the higher moral ground is all well and good but it can also minimize the impact of their lies. You have to pick your battles, as they say, and as far as that goes not letting these asswipes get away with yet another uncalled for slap at Ms Fluke unchallenged seems like a pretty damn good place to stand one's ground, so to speak.

YMMV, of course.

2012-04-26 10:47:16 PM
Somacandra: The problem is that its not a very good joke. A good joke would build on the public narrative surrounding Ms. Fluke. And the public narrative has framed her as having a lot of sex with men, and therefore needing contraception coverage. Like...a lot of sex....like "she makes squishing sounds when she walks" amounts of unprotected sex. But this "joke," if you can call it that, turns on the idea that somehow her sexual attraction to men was in doubt. Lesbians can have lots of slutty sex, but spit doesn't make babies, if you know what I mean. So for Crowley to make a joke suggesting she would be surprised to see her with a man totally goes in the reverse direction of the discursive flow. Its hits against the grain in a counterintuitive way. What she needed to make was a joke about cutting down on the spooge intake, or 'deciding to limit herself to just one source.' That would have preserved all the cruelty of insulting people who can't fight back and built on the narrative flow taking place around Ms. Fluke.

That is because this wasn't a joke. It was meant to be a mean teenaged like insult. When she got blowback from it then she tried to claim it was a joke.

This is what I don't understand about the right. They say crap like this like they think only people "like them" will see it or hear it. Then when they get blowback from it, it is all of a sudden a joke, and the left has no sense of humor, then it becomes they are being victimized. Also they will only do this to people who don't have a voice and can't fight back or won't fight back because they are supposed to be above that. Do you think she would have made this type of "joke" about Maddow or Jon Stewart?

You do realize that in one post you've managed to 1) totally ignore the original premise of the article, 2) totally ignore the countless well-reasoned counter-arguments brought up to every one of your points in previous posts, and 3) managed to dream up absolutely false images of a woman who you have never, and will never meet?

Bravo, sir. The crap that comes from your fingertips is only rivaled by whatever Skinnyhead manages to dream up.

How is that comment even supposed to be funny? Is Sandra Fluke famous for being gay? Is it topical humor or some asshole just putting her foot in her mouth and spouting the old "I was just kidding" defense when someone calls her on it.

Worked in 2nd grade, I suppose it works when you're a professional journalist.

Well, "professional journalist" is stretching things, but you know what I mean.

The PERSONAL attacks against Sandra Fluke are inexcusable and disgusting. While I do not agree with her opinions as stated in her testimony, she has every right to hold said beliefs and voice her opinion free from personal attacks.

Rush, Monica and anyone else who saw Sandra's testimony as an invitation to go after her personally are simply wrong. Sure, she might have been an "activist" being portrayed as a simple college student, but that does not matter, she is entitled to be an "activist," just as much as she is entitled to be a "college student" and God forbid, both.

Jesus, our country went through a Civil War 150 years ago and by the actions of too many on both sides, it seems as if we as country are commited to forget the sacrifices made by so many all those years ago, just so we can have round II.

Seriously. I'll admit Fluke is no Kristen Bell, but she is kinda cute.

She is also insanely smart and has a lot of guts, which makes her very appealing to guys who like intelligent women and have morals.

She has a tom-boyish cuteness. And intelligence is a nice enhancer.

Not really my type. As for her "intelligence", it seems to be mostly aimed at stabbing a religious institution in the back. There is no honor in intentionally going to a private law school just so that you can go after their religious beliefs. Georgetown doesn't keep the fact that it is run by Jesuits a secret.

Fark you with a vaginal ultrasound wand.

Asking to receive good value for money you are already spending is not a crime and doesn't warrant your scorn.

In Georgetown's case, the students wanted their coverage to include the pill, their insurers want them on the pill, the only one who didn't were the religious folks who run the place and while we allow religion to discriminate legally within the structure of their houses of worship once they enter the business world, schools or hospitals or rental halls, their free pass to be dicks expires.

Once we get past the lie that this has anything at all to do with cost we're left with religious busybodies trying to force other people to live their lives by their rules as they put themselves between a woman and her health care provider.

This is not acceptable.

Learn this.

Thanks.

/Sooner would be better than later on that, btw.

And whenever someone says that she gets on her show, owns her sexuality and calls them out on being an idiot. Mind you she does it very tastefully, but could you imagine if they tried this type of stuff with Stewart, or Colbert, or Maher. They would absolutely get destroyed, and that is why they only do it to people who have no voice. Personally I think it is time for Larry Flint to put out another bounty for embarrassing information on major right wing figures, and it should start with this Crowley woman because you know her closet is like a bone yard.

Fire-Poker Zen

Hakuin used to tell his pupils about an old woman who had a teashop, praising her understanding of Zen. The pupils refused to believe what he told them and would go to the teashop to find out for themselves.

Whenever the woman saw them coming she could tell at once whether they had come for tea or to look into her grasp of Zen. In the former case, she would server them graciously. In the latter, she would beckon to the pupils to come behind her screen. The instant they obeyed, she would strike them with a fire-poker.

Nine out of ten of them could not escape her beating.
