Well, it only won in the industrial beer* category, but it is the best of the worst, so to speak.

*American-style lager

Milwaukee's Best, aka Beast, won the bronze, dingus.

Sweet Jesus, what's the world coming to?

-/homebrewer rant

2003-11-02 06:32:48 PM
Um, wrong headline. It wasn't the Beast that won, it was Old Milwaukee. Different, but equally shiatty beer.

2003-11-02 08:21:16 PM
Old Milwaukee (and Milwaukee's Beast, for that matter) is gourmet beer compared to the swill that is Piel's Light.

2003-11-02 10:01:47 PM
Ahh the beast, pleasing poor college kids everywhere

2003-11-02 10:02:05 PM
Actually milwaukee's best is one of the better American "industrial" lagers- they don't use rice in their grains...

milwaukee's best is crap tho

2003-11-02 10:02:12 PM
If you desire an extraordinarily pale lager that is well-carbonated, clean and crisp with very little hops flavor, why pay more?

Yes, next time I'm in the market for beer that doesn't taste like beer I'll buy OM. Or I'll buy soda water, add everclear and yellow food coloring, and have the same thing for even less.

2003-11-02 10:03:14 PM
arg - that was supposed to read " OLD MILWAUKEEis one of the better American "industrial" lagers- they don't use rice in their grains...
"

2003-11-02 10:04:15 PM
Old Mud won.

Beast is Milwaukee's Best.

retard.

2003-11-02 10:04:30 PM
American beer is like sex in a canoe....Farking close to water.

2003-11-02 10:05:07 PM
BLASPHEMY!!!

My choice. Though they don't have it in Columbus. Grr.

Potentially great headling blown. But the Beast is superior to Old Slim anyway.

2003-11-02 10:06:56 PM
I could say I posted twice as an allusion to being drunk and seeing double, but no...it's because I am a farking retard. Sorry about that, everyone.

2003-11-02 10:07:15 PM
The_OcO: Ahh the beast, pleasing poor college kids everywhere

Yuck. Not this one. I'll take jungle juice over beast of Old Mud. That stuff is nasty.
Bring on the Natty!! It's way cheaper!

(drinking Bud Light by choice...)

2003-11-02 10:07:22 PM
err.... headline...

2003-11-02 10:09:55 PM
Great American Beer exists?

2003-11-02 10:09:58 PM
is all I have to say.

2003-11-02 10:10:31 PM
Brown Derby es mi cerveza favorita.
Soy loco tambien.

2003-11-02 10:10:59 PM
I remember when Old mil was $1.11 a six-pak in laCrosse, in Eau-claire in college it was 3.05 a case over-the-counter in bars. As for "Point", Walters Special was by far a better beer. Now many years later I prefer Newcastle brown ale.
Anyone remember Pabst Dark?

2003-11-02 10:11:33 PM
AngryAngy: sure, Great American Beer exists, you just can't get it in Australia. Just like we only get Foster's here, you only get American Crap Beer there. I wouldn't let any of it past my lips.

2003-11-02 10:14:48 PM
speaking of crap beers Hudy's and lucky Lager come to mind, Natty light, Fox Deluxe, Buckhorn, Huber, Weidemans, the list is long.

2003-11-02 10:16:40 PM
wohahahah, foolish world! I laugh at your acceptance of fosters.

2003-11-02 10:17:24 PM

2003-11-02 10:17:47 PM
Now I got a yen fer a Schaefer.

2003-11-02 10:19:06 PM
Gimme a PBR, or an Old Mil, or a Schaefer any day over the rest of what is large-scale commercial 'merrican beer.

SURE most other beer is "better" but not for 5 bucks a 12-pack.

2003-11-02 10:19:45 PM
Don't forget Tuborg ,Corrona, and Tecatti on the crappy beer list.

2003-11-02 10:21:14 PM
Where I come from "Beast" is Milwaukees Best Ice, not regular Milwaukees best. It's sad that I have actually gotten into arguments over this at parties before. When I was still in high school I lived off a steady diet of "Beast", "Natty", and "Wife Beater" (AKA Pabst Blue Ribbon). Now only 2 years later I won't touch anything less than Budweiser unless it comes from a keg. My beer of choice is Heineken if I can't get something made in Ireland.

2003-11-02 10:22:35 PM
Ole Mule Hockers.
The Beast, on the other hand, will deliver a stand-up buzz, if drunk fast enough and in sufficient quantity. I bet I drunk a swimming pool of that stuff before I hit the goddam limit.

Crappy flesh-n-blood. Can't stand up to an unlimited amount of exposure to toxins. Hmmf.

Thank Christ there' still cheesecake and masturbation.

2003-11-02 10:25:38 PM
Hmm, even my beer is mad. I just had a boilover while reading this. >(

Indylaw:
Schaeffers; my dad was dying from cancer, i went to visit at their cabin, he would fall a sleep drinking a Schaeffers, my mom would put it in the fridge with a piece of scotch tape over it for later, Finally i said to her, "He's dying for Christ sake, at least give a fresh beer, especially at $2 a twelve pak"

"Industrial beer"? Seems like most of the rivetheads I know drink Rolling Rock.

Sorry, dumb joke.

2003-11-02 10:57:55 PM
I have to admit, I like the sivler medal Mickey's malt liquor, especially back when they had the razor sharp pull tops.

But I'm with Captain_Morgan, Sierra Nevada pale ale is the best beer in the US, hands down.

2003-11-02 10:59:18 PM
Beer should contain for ingredients: Water, barley malt, yeast, and hops. Nothing else belongs in it. Certainly not rice. Germany has a law spelling that out called Reinheitsgebot, and has had this law since 1516. There are few American beers that could be called beer over there. I like those few, not "industrial beers."

Funny beer-related story:

The day after the last hurricane on the east coast (drunk, can't remember the name) the two things people wanted the most were...you guessed it; coffee and beer. This lead to a shortage of every kind of beer, even the beast was selling out!

Flash to my friend and I making a beer run at the local Farm Fresh. We walk into the beer garden area (a cooled room with nothing but beer) and notice the almost empty shelves. The first words out of both of our mouths are "Holy shiat!", to which the people in front of us replied with a laugh, "we said the exact same thing".

So now we're standing around, trying to figure out something to pick up when two guys walk in behind us. One of them said as we had, "holy shiat", with his friend looking down at the ground and muttering out, "Well it looks like we're drinking Pabst tonight."

His friends reaction? "Oh hell no!"

Guess you would've had to be there.

the best beer on the market is abita turbo dog.

Hey BigZ,

We recently (about 6 months now) started getting Great Lakes in the Chicago market. That's some tasty stuff! Love Dortmunder Gold as well as Edmund Fitzgerald.

Cheers,

Does whiskey count as beer?

2003-11-02 11:15:32 PM
I live 10 minutes outside of Latrobe, home of Rolling Rock. It always amuses me when people think it's good beer... If only you saw the mountain springs it comes out of. ;)

When I started college I didn't even like beer. Blasphemy, I know.

I started with higher-quality beers like Rolling Rock, now I've reduced myself to drinking everything from that to Keystone and Natty Light.

I even got a keg shell from the alley behind Freebird's.

Go college.
