Byrnes says the worker was wearing a hard hat and safety gear.

That's all he was wearing? No wonder he died.

Did it make a sound?

Well, he was at a nudist club.

Subby, how could you pass up the nudist club part?

In defense of the Tree...The guy should've been wearing more than a hard hat. I mean who works at a nudist club and downs trees without wearing clothes and proper 40 pound limb protection.

Jeez.....

"Morning wood can be fatal"

It can be, if you're using it on someone else when your wife wakes up.

2012-04-26 01:12:08 PM
Keep your eyes on your work!

That'll teach ya.

Anyone who thinks (thanks to the mental giants at OSHA) a hardhat trumps death should've been at the Georgetown Univ dorm project in the 80's. Ever seen what a small toolbox does to a hardhat covered head when it falls 4 floors? Eeesh...

30+ years ago, I was working on a radio tower at 1000 feet up. A hammer slipper out of my hand. The ground workers were FAR AWAY from the tower base and in no immediate danger. Still gave a signal to be aware of falling objects. No one hurt.

It took a shovel and some digging to recover the hammer.

2nd story:

A 2500 foot tv tower was going up in Houston TX. The tower itself was complete and the riggers were hoisting the antenna to the very top. The antenna snagged on one of the guy wires on the way up and broke the wire.

The strain of the unbalanced guy wires caused the antenna to zig-zag fold up and fall. Five guys were on the tower. The tv station had a film crew there getting shots of the antenna hoisting for promotion/advertizing/etc.

You could plainly see the bodies falling. The guy at the middle of the tower took about 5 seconds to hit, the ones at the top closer to 10 seconds.

Soon after I left radio construction....

Byrnes says the worker was wearing a hard hat and safety gear.>

Good thing he was wearing his mandated safety gear, could you imagine what would have happened if he hadn't been?

Who's got time to pay attention to falling limbs when you're at a nudist club...

Question: If a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to see it does it make a sound?
Question: If no one is there how do you know it fell?
