themeaningoflifeisnot: Epiphany: themeaningoflifeisnot: SF's pick is really puzzling. Jenkins may turn out to be a decent receiver, but why pick him in the 1st round? He's a mid-second rounder according to everything I've seen. Why not either trade down and get an extra pick or stand pat with a better 1st round selection and hope Jenkins there or pick the 8th or 9th or 10th best receiver? I've seen nothing of Jenkins that suggests he's worth picking this high.

Exactly the same things that where said about Aldon Smith and Chris Culliver last year. I especially remember people saying Culliver was a fifth rounder AT BEST, these were the draft experts.

Great, so they may end up doing better with a 50-100 type selection than people think. What about Hill, Randle, Quick, Jeffrey--all guys I think are better than Jenkins. I guess Jenkins is fine if you are looking more at speed than physicality, but Hill is only fractionally slower and much bigger. In my view, Jenkins does not have near the potential to be a big play receiver.

And from a best player available standpoint if you're solid at all positions, SF left a bunch of better options on the board for other teams.

He was the highest player left on the 49ers draft board. That's good enough for me. Baalke has shown that he has a great eye for talent and that he will pick the player he thinks is best and not give a fark, and it works out for the most part. I'm going to go ahead and trust him over all the draft experts and other people.

Also the look on Harbaughs face when they made the pick was priceless. He had a huge grin on his face for a good two minutes. He looked like he just got away with murder.

Hey, you said yourself that he kept leaving the room for some reason. Some crazy sh*t could've gone down off-camera...

netweavr: Any Saints fans want to join the rest of us Raiders fans at the bar? I'm thinking of inviting the Falcons fans as well but... you know...

HEY!!!!

So the cowboys got suckered into taking that CB? Figures, ever since Jerry has ran the draft they have farked up picks.

Norval took a Melvin? That sounds right.

Really liking the Ravens' decision to move down where they did, especially given which players wound up going from picks 29-32 (I can't imagine any were high on Baltimore's wish list). Now the question becomes if they're planning to take Peter Konz after all, or maybe Upshaw winds up falling to them at #35.

Also can't help but wonder, if Cordy Glenn is still on the board do you think about taking him & maybe moving Oher to guard?

Hahaha I didn't even think about that. It makes sense. Whatever dark force they are using to make awesome picks everyone else calls retarded must need to be appeased with a sacrifice.

As a Chargers fan, I'm cautiously optimistic...but then again I feel that way EVERY year and it doesn't seem to pay off...

Highest rated DE in the class they somehow got at 18. If they grab Lamichael James I'll be happy with this draft.

Just read a report that the Vikings offered SF a 4th round pick if they'd move from 30 to 35. SF turned them down, so Minnesota did the deal with the Ravens.

So, SF took a mid-second to end-of-second round pick in the first round AND turned down an additional 4th round pick even though there wasn't a chance in hell that the Bucs, the Giants, the Rams, or the Colts would take Jenkins.

Just because you target a player and get him doesn't mean you got him at value.

CommieTaoist: This can't be anywhere near as exciting as the WNBA draft was last week.

I had to laugh when Mike & Mike mentioned on-air that they'd been temporarily moved to their original studio because the studio they currently occupy was being used for the WNBA Draft. NFL Draft, live from Radio City Music Hall; WNBA Draft, live from a radio/TV studio normally occupied by two guys at a desk...

Also, I was kind of hoping my Rams might take a WR or OL. The whole trading down thing seemed to work out for Belichick, but that was after the Pats had established themselves as one of the best teams. Stockpiling picks for the 2nd-4th rounds is a little different when you need extremely talented players at several positions.

ha! As a Packers fan I was thinking the opposite..."damn bears got McClellan...this Perry better not blow".

Uhh, you mean the guy they passed on ten picks prior taking Mclellin instead?

Yeah. It came out inelegantly. All week the Bears were projected to pick Perry or Mercilus. Instead, they get a reach.

/I'd be happy to be wrong, but I have my doubts

Mclellin is a good kid with talent still to develop and a serious work ethic. He will do well there.

I hope so. It seemed like a pick out of the blue (no pun intended) for the Bears.

I'm a little sad GB didn't get him. Liked his work ethic more than perry. Though now we're an aj hawk away from an all cali LB set

I was hoping for it, too. Again, I ask, are they thinking of Perry as an OLB? He would be a giant OLB.

The taking heads talked about him rushing the passer and dropping into coverage. So my guess is OLB, since DEs don't often drop, except Raji

Well, the Pack are a base 3-4 team, but play a lot of odd alignments. They do some 2-5, 1-6, etc...their "psycho" packages. Perry is a good size for a quick DE or OLB...he's a tad taller than Freeney, but not as tall as a Peppers type 'solid' DE. I think he'll do alright. Thompson knows what he's doing, if they felt they HAD to move up this year, they would have, they have (had) the picks to do it. I figured on McClellan or Upshaw myself, but mainly because I figured Mercilus, Perry, Jones and a few others would be gone by then.

I'd be OK with Ronnie Hillman as well...nice change of pace guy. LaMichael James just seems like an injury magnet and has a DV arrest.

Depends on the D front 4-3, 3-4. A lot of teams are liking the versatile guys.

I was pretty disappointed, because I really wanted Reiff or DeCastro. Then I woke up this morning and read up on him more, and I'm feeling better. Plus, you can't beat the handshake with Goodell.

Also, ESPN SportsScience did a segment on him Link

Living in Portland I've seen LMJ a lot more than Hillman, but I think either would be a great way to get some pressure off Matthews.
