If the Obama administration were only so quick to jump on GE and their pollution

Oh, please. There is nothing, nothing, we could teach the Romans about industrial cartels, inflated military contracts, shell companies, shadowy financing, insurance scams, commodity monopolies, bribery, vote-rigging, senatorial misconduct, and judicial corruption.

Just more proof that the Obama Administration is anti-business.

Well , in his defense, he's RIGHT and our ENTIRE JUSTICE SYSTEM IS BASED ON THIS IDEA. That's what deterrence IS. You know you can't catch everybody, so they guys you DO catch, you slam their nuts in a drawer so hard that all the other bad guys have to cross their legs. This is especially true of corporations. Throw a few directors and officers of one company in PMITA prison and you'd be stunned how all their compeitiors are suddenly ordering internal audits to make sure they are in compliance with that law

fta: "I was in a meeting once and I gave an analogy to my staff about my philosophy of enforcement, and I think it was probably a little crude and maybe not appropriate for the meeting, but I'll go ahead and tell you what I said:

"It was kind of like how the Romans used to, you know, conquer villages in the Mediterranean. They'd go in to a little Turkish town somewhere, they'd find the first five guys they saw and they'd crucify them.

"Then, you know, that town was really easy to manage for the next few years."

"It's a deterrent factor,"

Crude analogy is crude but correct.

The Big Energy concerns who polluted under Bush knowing full the toothless EPA he devolved the agency into was gonna little to nothing to stop them. Well, aside from ridiculously low figure fines that were considered more the price of doing business than any kind of real deterrence factor capable of making them clean up their act, of course.

If an enforcement agency doesn't enforce the rules and make corporations aware that they are going to be negative consequences for their actions if they don't play fair then the corporations will continue to be scofflaws.

But the whiners on the right seem bound and determined to play the victim card yet again.

Only real question I have for them is at this point is "How do you get that last nail in?"

*blink*

Or at least... you know... stop treating their hugely destructive crimes as less severe than a college kid smoking pot in her dorm room.

Then they can all go cry in their fancy gardens.

Then we can talk about who has forsaken whom.

No, it's not. Obama does not have to personally fire someone who makes a bad analogy - introduced AS a bad analogy - because it hurts your feelings. His NOT firing the man is not a "reasonable" sign of anything at all.

I'm just surprised that Inhofe took some time away from kissing the oil industries ass non-stop to share with us this video...right before he went back to kissing the oil industries' ass some more.

2012-04-26 03:38:19 PM
So I would love to have a transcript of the full speech. I'm sure that there's some context missing.

If the EPA wants to "crucify" some oil and gas companies when they fark up , that's fine. I want companies to know that they'll be crucified if they poison the water or whatever.

Also Inhofe is a complete shill for the industry and a known retard. His book is total garbage:

http://www.amazon.com/The-Greatest-Hoax-Conspiracy-Threatens/dp/19364 8 8493/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335466755&sr=8-1

I also like how he talks about fearmongering when his book's title is farking fearmongering

The EPA is a power crazed agency that needs to be reigned in. Yes, we want clean air and water, but we also would like jobs. It's not possible (with current technology) to be 100% clean. There will always be pollution to some degree. A reasonable trade-off is required, but the EPA's goal is zero emissions, fark the economy. They won't be happy until we're back to hunter gather status because all manufacturing has been eliminated. No, they won't be happy even then, because we'll be hunting deer and cooking the meat over an open fire (OMG! Pollution!).

Don't assume my statement is in support of the GOP or the elimination of the EPA entirely. Not even close.
